Never say never. I doubt the nine heroes we have in early access are going to be the only ones we get. There's still a small chance that we'll see a few more returning heroes from DD1 by the time DD2 is fully released.
I don't think that the stories changed per say, if you look at the hellion comic, it only featured her clansmen dying around her as she stood helplessly and watched. The events of DD2 merely contextualized alot of stories and added more events surrounding them. Another good example being highwayman's where he killed a mother and child and instantly regretted it. DD2's contextualization added that he did it unknowingly while on "one last job" and it was out of desperation because of his circumstances.
