Really sad to see what it has become. In the 90s and early 00s Swindon was a pretty decent place to live. The town centre was thriving, night life was pretty good and there was lots of industry. With a lot of the companies moving operations abroad/closing down and a constant and steady flow of "new arrivals" being housed for free it seems to have entered a doom spiral of decay. 😞
Wow - l grew up there - what happened it’s terrible, it’s either bored up, empty, wrote all over or just sad !! I remember it very different- oh dear - thank you for posting I am definitely not home sick 😢 it was always a bustling place- the poor bus station, my mum and dad both worked on the buses in the 50’s!! The queens gardens ? green water I’m so shocked, weeds and trash??? all I can say is wow!!
It really shows how run down the town centre is. Quite depressing really. Partly why now live pretty much on the very edge of the town in Stratton St Margaret / Blundson border. 🙄 Additionally it’s an embarrassment. The tourist department should use this film to represent what has happened here. Sadly this is all over the country not just Swindon.
Brilliant video Mark. Many thanks for your time and effort filming and editing. Having hardly been to Swindon in the last 30 years it gives me a feeling of mixed emotions. One being nostalgic memories of us as kids with where we used to go and things that we got up to. The other of sadness at some of the evident decay and the thoughts that some of Swindon is starting to look like a third world country. Looking forward to your next video mate. Regards Dave Evans
I echo what Dave said. Swindon is beginning to look, sound and feel like a third world country. I’ve lived here 54 years and I’d not realise it was Swindon had you not declared it. Thanks, Mark 👍
Great video showing the good & the bad of Swindon.
I lived in Swindon in 1970, loved it, what a pity now.

Nice video amigo. Is this your town?

Does anyone know of any good footage of the town centre from the 80's? Very limited here on YT.

What an eye opener uh? So sad to say the least , but brilliant down load, and yes I’d love to view more
Unfortunately I concur. So much better before the Millennium.
