In the books, Sherlock was an opium addict and a cocaine addict. Keep in mind they're in the 1800's. He's also not as big of an asshole as the show makes him out to be. I would recommend giving them a read. (Or listen if you prefer audio books)
Which Audiobook would you recommend? I see that there is a definitive edition on audible, is that good?

Wasn't he only addicted to cocaine? The only reason he was in an opium den was because he was on a case. (The one where he was trying to find Neville)
@ProfesionalBlobberstein Morphine and cocaine. But yes, he was in that den for a case.
Fun fact: Sherlock Holmes not only has the most movies about/based/adapted from the books, but was played by two MCU actors Dr. Strange and Iron man.
Highly recommend reacting to Merkules, he got a Rich Men North of Richmond cover, it hits pretty hard and his flow is impeccable.
I'd like to make it clear that your understanding of Holmes' personality is quite incorrect. This rap is about the original Sherlock Holmes, of the books. So he isn't actually the jerk he is portrayed to be in the modern adaptations of him. He's quite respectful in the books, though there were some points where he would make a sly remark. But it is no where close to the disrespect the modern adaptations make you think. Nice reaction.
You should check out 2093 by yeat. It has very good production and mixing. I think you would enjoy.
Please don't let Sherlock be your only reference to the character of Sherlock Holmes. Its a solid show, but its a really bad portrayal of the detective himself (Cumberbatch is fine, its the writing thats not good for him). Book Sherlock is very kind and willing to help people who others can't or won't help. He also actually solves mysteries (why is the show about the world's greatest detective not about him solving mysteries). He's written as someone with really bad ADD/ADHD, and he deals with that by solving crimes and microdosing on cocaine.
Its just a rap dude
@kimanijoseph4258 I'm upset about the show's portrayal of a character I love. The song is fantastic, and I love it, but I don't like the idea of a character I love as much as Holmes only being known for his worst portrayal.
