This project is absolutely out of this world! I love it! Tell you what else I love, your daddy making things up again!! I held the trophy for space invaders champion he just stole my glory! It was 1980, I was in the arcade playing my best game ever and as the game ended I realised I'd beat the world's best score. I was so excited I slipped and fell backwards on my roller skates. Your daddy rushed in and saw I hadn't filled in my name on the score board and put his name instead! And it was me who ended up in hospital that night because in his rush to get to the space invader he ran over my hand with his roller skates braking a few fingers. I've got to admit though, he did look hot in his short shorts, knee socks, roller skates and crop top, not to mention his mullet with sweatband round his head! Anyway, fantastic video as always! I really enjoy your videos and the projects you make!

Thanks Susan! For all of the tall tales that I've heard about my Daddy, him stealing your high score sounds pretty close to the truth from what I've witnessed in my life. Thanks for your story, Susan. I like reading about you and my Father's history. Again, I apologize on his behalf. : )

To get the volume needed I pour lentils into the mold cavity and then pour them into a measuring cup. The lenticular shape of the lentils is the most efficient at packing into a void. I pour them in and shake them down to let them settle around the positive and into the mold. I've used this numerous times

Some of those LED strips are addressable, so you can turn individual lights on and off with a simple controller like an arduino. It would be very easy to sequentially turn a bunch of them on/off to make them look like they are moving.
And I want to hear more of you Dad's high score story!

    • @JMcMillen

You could do more than that. With the right electronics and a bit of programming, you could make it play like one of those ancient hand held electronic games from the late 70's or early 80's.

    Blinkinlights! Yeah!!!
That is such a cool idea! The care that you took to make sure that the resin pieces were free of bubbles really paid off.
The whole project looks amazing! You really thought about how to do this and I think the use of jeweler's wax was a clever technique that will be useful for other projects.

T-Nu, you rockin' it again! What a great display piece! This could easily be adapted to create other displays inspired by the classic arcade quarter-gobblers. Well done my dear, entertaining and probably quite educational to younger folks! It appears from his self-description, Daddy may be near my age, but I must tell him I probably beat his score. You see, our roller rink game place was in a place nearly condemned, so I played in decrepit rental skates on games that shocked you if you touched anything metal, on a tilted floor! Oh, I think he forgot a bit of ambience- cigarette smoke and hairspray smell everywhere. Lovely times, though.

You know, the flipping of air pockets messing up a pressurized cast have never affected me. However, I have had some friends experience this. I'm sure that it depends on several factors. I tend to not go much over 40 psi, so you're right, it works, but I'll keep degassing my silicone. It's too much work setting all of the molds up! : ) Thanks for watching.

Found you through CC Minis' colab video and it was insta sub :) Can I ask one question about the build? In the end you show the piece hanging from the wall and there are no visible wires for the led strips. Did you use a battery? Thanks!

Exactly. It was not that hard to wire a battery pack to it. Thanks so much for the sub!!!

To get the volume needed I pour lentils into the mold cavity and then pour them into a measuring cup. The lenticular shape of the lentils is the most efficient at packing into a void. I pour them in and shake them down to let them settle around the positive and into the mold. I've used this numerous times

That is a great technique. I will keep it in mind. Thanks!
