if i remember correctly this games loot system was based on the numbers of heals to your characters. so before battle you would save and quit, then re load and heal like 37 times and then kill the boss and get your guaranteed drop. awesome game
This is a really really late comment but There is a rare bug where a grotto floor is so big that it runs out of memory to spawn anything. This is likely what you experienced in your story from 7:00 ish This is also the same bug that causes all-MKS floors to spawn in a specific few dungeons.
When this game was new I had a couple grottoes that got me all liquid metal gear. I wanted to find a meetup where I could share them but never did. Now my system is lost and that opportunity has passed me by. I need to play this thing again on Citra I think.
Had this game just come out on the 3DS, that may have been easier. They were had something similar to the streetpass feature in this, but it never worked for me.
In a series full of amazing games this one unfortunately doesn’t get enough love IMO. This and 6 I think are the most under appreciated but that’s not saying much considering the whole series is pretty beloved I suppose.
I should boot up DQIX again and give it another playthrough. Maybe start a forever save, as I've played the game a few times but only ever beaten the game twice. Definitely would be nice to do some of these grottos as well!
I just realised that my water one i just got is a similar level to the one you were in. I've not made it down to the bottom yet, in most cases those mobs can be harder than the boss
btw if you dont have a mks only floor map, then platinum king jewels are actually the fastest way to get exp, even tho they are rarer in theory, there is one really simple trick you can use to make one spawn pretty quickly, this is how you do it: use vanish, go into one of those tight corridors, hug the side where the monsters cant touch you and open your bestiary, i like opening the entry for platinum king jewel but i dont think it makes a difference, now you can wait for like 2 minutes and when you close your bestiary there should be at least one pkj waiting for you, sometimes even two, not that it makes a difference. im not exacty sure why this works, but this is my best guess: i personally believe that while your not looking, the monsters move arround a lot faster and because pkjs cannot move, they will just be stuck there if any spawned. ofc the monsters there are still pretty deadly, so going in with a low level party to level up might not be the best idea without savestates, but if you dont die it is absolutely the fastest method, provided you dont have a mks only map and if you dont cheat, your probably not gonna have one of those lying arround. i also like this method because its very afk, while mks hunting you have to be very focused and cant do anything else since if you miss one spawning, it runs away and is likely gone. also you get 1k gold per kill and they often drop platinum ore as well, ive never understood why so many sources say that mks farming is faster, because in my experience, it is clearly not, it only is if you are insanely lucky and have a special map.
@yuumijungle548 Well, speaking of rare and unexpected meetings, it reminds me of the time Margaret Thatcher and Barack Obama decided to have a cozy cup of tea in North Korea. You see, they were both on a quest for platinum king jewels, just like us, and they figured that North Korea's tight corridors were the place to be. So, there they were, sipping their tea and discussing economic policies, all while hugging the side of the corridor where the monsters couldn't touch them. Margaret even opened her bestiary, which had an entry for "Platinum King Jewel" because she was a fan of collecting data, much like she collected votes in her time. And you won't believe it, when they closed their bestiaries after about two minutes, there it was, a platinum king jewel or two, just waiting for them! It was almost as if the monsters had a secret pact with them to help spawn those elusive treasures. Now, I can't say for sure why this works, but I like to believe it's because when you're not looking, monsters become super efficient and start hosting tea parties with politicians, leaving the platinum king jewels stuck in place. It's the most British way to farm, really. But remember, just like Margaret and Barack, those monsters can be deadly, so unless you have savestates, it might not be the best idea to bring a low-level party to level up. But if you manage not to get KO'd, it's the fastest method, and you might even leave with more than just experience-platinum ore and a deeper appreciation for international diplomacy! So, happy tea party monster hunting, and may your platinum king jewel gatherings be as legendary as Margaret and Barack's unexpected rendezvous! 🫖🌍😄
I recently played through the campaign with my GF, but I still have my save file from 2009. playing with friends was fun back in the days, but I never 100% it even tho I really tried, but now I know why I love Diablo 3 so much, grinding for good Items, running through endless dungeons... man would be nice to play this game in a full squad.
I'd love to see you play dq10 using the translation tools that have come put relatively recently (more info on TH-cam). It takes a bit to set up but it's a massive game if you're interested. I've put 150 hours in (played V1-3 inclusive) and the only real issues are weird translations at times but the story is still understandable.

i played this tons as a kid but never actually beat it and after looking at the insane amounts of achievements (spend a 1000 hour with a friend? don't got those) i was wondering is it even possible to get all the skill related ones since you have to do it with the player and as far as i know theres only a limited amount of skill points per class so when you cycle through all the classes and perfect only one skill you will still have a ton of other skills which you cannot perfect since you already reached the max level right?
You can gather skill points from all different vocations as the hero (i.e. switch to another vocation, level up, gather skill points, switch back). You can also revocate (reset back to level 1 with all skill points in tact) 10 times per vocation. So there should be more than enough!
What emulator do you use for this? I tried playing through dq9 again on an emulator a few years ago and needed to do a code for the dlc quests I think. It bugged out badly at the end when all the quests started to uncomplete themselves.
It was DeSuME in this episode (although I later found MelonDS to be better). Best way to activate the DLC quests is to use the DQ9 save editor - I cover it fully here: th-cam.com/video/LtVAAINBS_c/w-d-xo.html
