    Michael, in the painting, feels like the Sun is more near the , above the right background canvas, clouds condensing off the mountains, the illuminating affect of the “ pull through “ buildings, loading structures, is of particular attraction, “” you hit it just right”” despite a seemingly effortless taming of the larger brush. I really think you got a beautiful expression this time. Shadow with subtle detail , both vary nicely on the largest building, a sunlit roof, I’m thinking a sprinkle may come from the mountains, seem to see a gentled transparency foreground ❤️

    Love this painting so much, Michael! I struggle with painting buildings. Watching you I realize I need to slow down when doing them and really use the brush to make the roof angles. Still tough to do!!!! Ugh. I love the atmosphere in your painting. I bet salt flat paintings are rare too. You did this one so well! Also glad you didn't do a brush line sky (your up and down scribbly marks) in this one. LOL

    What a great one! I really love that painting. It reflects the calm atmosphere of that place so beautifully. Also the warm ochre tones in the final painting underline the sunny weather very well, I think.
    I also like the noises of the boats behind you in the video - looks like a really relaxed spot to paint. So nice to watch :)!

    I do like this painting. I have to say, the last of projects, with tinted panels, have really appealed to me. Perhaps because of the sienna showing through. Nice work, you fit a lot of relevant information in that small format.

    I think, it's really good composition, I mean painting. Cool location! I was wondering in which foods would this all salt end up. lol ... 6:07 Emma's portrait noticed. Looks fantastic! I know you focus mainly on nature or urban painting, but you would be a great portraitist as well. Are there any reasons for preferring nature over portraits? Have a good one!

    • @harryjamessmithmusic7762
      @harryjamessmithmusic7762 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for your reply and clarifying. I had no idea that was Melina's work. I'm so sorry. But still it's really great portrait. I was confused, because I know, that you painted Emma's portraits in the past. And they are really amazing! Btw. I think your reply to me was removed by TH-cam system for no reason, as some of my past comments.... I don't know why they do that. Cheers!

    Hi Michael, just a quick painting related question. I see you sketching and blocking in; the block in starting with the darkest darks, then moving up to lighter values (seemingly randomly?).
    You mentioned during this painting that you then keyed your painting to the lightest light (the yellowish salt). Meaning that you are going to go over the previous blocked in layers. Are those layers already tacking up by that time i.e. do you use a drying medium for the first block in layers?

    • @chamberlainpaintings
      @chamberlainpaintings  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I block in from dark to light. The lighter values are where value is almost more important than accurate color. It's different in every painting but I'm trying to key the mids to the lightest light. Sometimes I'll block in the lightest light first so I can key to it. The first layers will tack up if it's warm out, since I use Liquin, but that's not ideal. I like to paint over the previous layers before they get sticky. I paint thick over thin. The first layers of color are kept thin an the next layer is done with a loaded brush.

    I'm no expert but, my eye goes straight to the front where all the light is. The buildings are done very well but slides into the background away from all the front light. All in all its good, but you did ask! So I would turn down some of that light except towards the upper mid part?
