Love this. I'm a native San Franciscan and grew up in the Bay Area, so it's great to see all of your local painting spots. Thank you for all of your creativity, painting tips, and motivating videos. It's much appreciated by this new painter.
Love the loose style. You nailed the boats, would love to have seen how you painted them in full. The water is fantastic, you have reduced it's complexity to bare basics and it is awesome. The atmosphere on the day is captured brilliantly
I love this painting. Can’t pinpoint why, but is for sure a favorite. I find myself liking your cityscapes and landscapes with a few details such as the boats and houses used here most of all.
I bet your buyers would appreciate paintings from your childhood town in CA.....seeing that town through your eyes. Lovely painting, Michael! You nailed everything.
That advice to make choices about to composition from several feet away is great advice I forget all the time. I often get so locked in I don’t step back. But when I do it always helps. Loved this scene here!
Hi Michael, I love your beautiful painting of Foster City water and little boats. You not only painted a beautiful painting but made me homesick at the same time. Hey Mike...i think Monet is smiling down on you!...such a calm tranquil feeling...the change of color of the boat to Orange is a key element... complementary colors are very important not just for toning down but laying down next to each other...
Great painting. I really like it. At first I wasn't sure about the water, but that was my fault not yours. I was watching on a 50 inch TV and I was only about six feet away. Then I left the room and when I came back and saw the screen from a proper distance, maybe twelve feet, it all fell into place and the water was fabulous. Monet would have been impressed!
I love that you did a Monet inspired. And you did so well. Thanks for this , Michael. You never disappoint. I’m still doing watercolors, but getting into my oils as well. You always inspire me. 🌴Tallahassee 🌴
This painting looks wicked Mike...the right handside with the boats and the trees is perfect. About painting masters: I did some reproductions of great masters paintings (I never show them because of several reasons mostly legal) but it's incredible how you learn and get better at applying paint and composing...after that is all about your taste and what you are used to (in your case you are extremely used to paint outside and have your very own style already) so it won't change much of your strokes but I firmly recommend going for it...you will be surprise of what you are capable of afterwards. I still have the idea of doing a very big version of Luncheon of the Boating Party but I don't know what I would do with it when it's finished...maybe hung it at home. There's a mother at my daughter's school who saw them once and she is a Dali fan and she is always asking me to make her some of Gala portraits but I don't want to go to jail LOL. But I can tell you, painting a carbon copy of some masters teaches you more than you could imagine.
Thank, Martin! Yes, I agree you can learn a lot from doing master studies. I think it's ok to do copies as long as you don't sign it and try to sell it. You can give them away. Although there are websites that offer real, painted reproductions of famous works. Not sure how they're able to get away with that!
chamberlainpaintings I know a guy who lives in a city near by who's spent 20 years in jail...he is one of the most famous french copyists of all time. He has a painting atelier now and takes plenty of commissions...he earned millions doing fakes back then. Can't remember his name, if I find it I'll edit here and post it.
