    The first Chinese pen I’ve purchased that I have been happy with. Mine writes closer to a medium, which I like.

    I love this pen because it can be used as an eyedropper. Besides, it has a simple yet elegant design. It's defo one of my EDC. Suits my needs at uni pretty well! Nice vid, mate!

    I found the 992 to be an excellent writer. I even converted a few to eyedropper with no problems. It's a well made pen and an excellent value for the money. I did notice a few micro scratches near plug at the bottom of the barrel. Since I removed the plug before sealing the end with silicone adhesive, these cracks haven't expanded or interfered with the eye dropper function.
    Tha khaki comment only makes sense in a Commonwealth country or in Massachusetts in the U.S.

      @Shorne Pubique I have a preppy and the Jinhao 992, the Jinhao is way better. My humble opinion.

    The 992 is one of the best pens I have ever used. It's a copy/inspiration of the _Monteverde Monza_ which hovers around $25. Everything about it is just right. The grip is the perfect size for my hand, dry feed great for lefthanders and all the colour variations are great. Nibs available are fine, extra fine and hooded extra fine. Fine ones are super smooth and extra fine are as smooth as extra fine nibs go.
    If you want to eyedropper the pen, the blind cap at the end is just pressed in so I'd pull it out and dab a tiny bit of glue on it before pushing it in again. Just to make sure. And silicon grease on the threads.

    I purchased the pack of six and have inked two. Both write very good, good enough that I feel comfortable giving it away. I did give one away to relatively new FP user and he has not had issues.

    I'm curious about something. I have quite a lot of 992 pens now and, as with countless other people, at least two are showing end-plug cracking. What I'm wondering is, though most of these are demonstrators, I have a couple that are solid coloured. So far, these are not showing cracks. I'm not sure if there is a different plastic in the solid coloured pens, if I've just been lucky, or if these too will crack over time. However it may be something to ponder. Maybe the stress fractures are due in part to the brittle nature of their transparent and translucent plastics...

    Do not make this into an eye dropper. The plug at the back end is pressed in and has a very weak seal. After a few weeks you will notice the seal is not consistent. The back end will leak. You can seal it with an epoxy, but it's just as well to continue with the converter.

    • @jpl2475
      @jpl2475  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Wikes I can see what you mean. I made this an eye dropper for about 2 weeks once and had no issue, but I can see your point. Not taking any chances with ink so Ill epoxy that tomorrow. Thanks :)

    I have several of these. One with the usual Jinhao fine nib, and one that has a Chinese "duckbill calligraphy" cursive italic stub in a 1.1mm for a "just because" pen.
    I've been happy with them. The previous concerns with cracking seems to be fixed, now, and I have several more that I have to try to "penable" people who are interested in fountain pens. Carry one with a 5 pack of el cheapo Jinhao ink cartridges (though I personally use bottled ink) so that they can get started right away.
    Quality control standards have really improved, from my experience, so I have no problems giving them to anyone. They are dependable workhorse pens. Not exactly flashy or amazing, just a good pen for the price. (And being on a fixed income, price is certainly a factor! 😁)
    Do I have others that I like better? Yes. I'm addicted to the old lever fill Esterbrook. My first love was a grey J. Don't remember what nib, as it was about 40 years ago. It was a better writer than a gold nibbed one I had back then, so I'm back into the Esterbrook again.
    Thanks for the review of this decent little workhorse pen!

    The 9 series Jinhao pens are up a level from their older pens.
    My Metropolitans are in their boxes since I have bought the 911 and the 992. I won't eyedropper it. I swap my inks to often to need an eyedropper pen.
    I have an F nib on mine and use Schaeffer scrip black ink. No problems.
    No skipping. I have never used Noodlers inks. I stick with Watermans, Quink, and Diamine inks.

    It's such a shame about the cracking issues with these. As you point out in your comparison with the WS 9133, other manufacturers have solved this. However I do like the 992. I use them as cheap ink testers and throwaway pens. They're also handy for substituting in a stub nib. I have a cheap-as-chips 1.5mm in a cheap-as-chips 992 and the combination makes for an interesting experience. These still have their uses despite more modern pens with undoubted improvements. I feel similarly about the 911; a bargain-basement bulletproof flighter to go with my bulletproof black.

    I too have the coloured 6 PAC and have been really impressed. Dropped the cap on the blue and the finial popped off but nothing that a little superglue won't fix! Thankyou for the review

    Use a more reliable ink.
    I have mine with Quink blue-black and it's a wonderfully smooth and wet writer. The nib I have has lots of line wariation.

    I decided not to put the fude nib on my 992.
    It is such a great nib on it. I put it onto my Pearl Windows Jinhao 8802, and it's an interesting experience. Basically you can get lines from fine (upside down ) through medium using a normal angle and up to bbb by lowering the angle of writing.
    Really smooth to write with. Fude nibs are fun.

    Hi, Recently I got my Jinhao 992, but I am facing issue with ink converter - ink is not flowing as expected! (ink stops on the top while writing and nib gets dry) , I am using Parker Ink . is there any method or solution we can solve this ? will you help me on this ? thanks.

    why did the quick brown fox run out of ink? .... love these pens; have six of the transparent ones (green,clear,smokey,orange,coffee, blue) and at A$2 each; well, how can you complain. A medium is not to be found however - pity! Keep up the good videos.

    I think i have a fake version of the 992. I got it from wish under the "free" things and gave it a try. Mine has a hooded nib with an advertised .38 mm nib size but it writes more like a European fine. Then pen is super smooth and actually became my daily pen for school. I use X-feather from noodlers, the fine nib with the ink makes it a dream to use on cheap printer paper. I wish I could show a picture of it because it looks exactly the same but hooded.

    • @jpl2475
      @jpl2475  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 992 next to me on my desk with that exact type of nib. They aren't fake, it is just the 992 hooded nib version. I am no huge fan of hooded nib pens, but hey that pen works well.

    Got a few of these about 3 months ago and love them. I want more like this from Jinhso. It's great even if you are not new to fountain pens. I don't mind my other jinhao pens so much but I hate the weight.

    • @jpl2475
      @jpl2475  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      the weight is personal preference, but hey the x450 exists which makes up for that.

    • @mad0214
      @mad0214 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea I actually prefer the weight of the 992. I have about 15 fountain pens and my x450 and x750 are heavier than them all. Enjoy them though.

    I haven't seen anyone review the 992 with the extra fine hooded nibs, they're even better than the standard 992. they have no hard starts or skipping issues at all and they write like a dream. I have one in a nice milky white that's now one of my favorite pens. not bad for $1.50.

  • @SArthur221
    @SArthur221 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you want to eyedropper these, get some epoxy and coat the bottom of the barrel in glue, just to make sure that even if it does crack, it won't leak.
    I've eyedroppered about 3 of these, and all have cracked in time, but none has actually leaked because i glued them when i initially got them.
    In addition, this pen actually has a screw-in nib unit, that the nib and feed are friction fit into. If it leakes from the converter, or if an eyedroppererd one leaks into the cap, make sure the nib unit is screwed in fully, maybe add silicone grease on those threads as well.

    • @jpl2475
      @jpl2475  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah Ive had one crack very slightly and I've used a resin there. Such a shame, although I don't usually eyedrop my pens so its not that much of an issue for me.
