  • After discussing the x450, I think it's a good idea to talk about the x750 now.

    I have the glittering version with Jowo 1.1 nib that I put on it.
    It's truly amazing in every way. I have a Jinhao 911 as a fine jotter.
    I need no other pens.
    I am a happy bunny aged 72 living in Stroud England.
    Thanks Mr Brown from my favourite European country Holland. I worked there in the 1960s. Happy times.

    Just for interest I bought the Jinhao 650 Black Real Sea Shell fountain pen; it wrote surprisingly smoothly and I was using Waterman's Mysterious Blue, that blue-black ink. The pen cost me just £16, which is a massive bargain.
    This Jinhao 650 is massive; perfect for large hands. Mine had a nib that gave a wonderful feed in broad. I was amazed, but also really impressed with this Chinese fountain pen. The nib is gold plated over stainless steel. I didn't post the pen's cap because it would unbalance the pen when writing.
    Many thanks for your video of that x750. It seems equally amazing and I love your presentations anyway.

    Just FYI, I have just received a X750 and I immediately replaced its original nib with the flex nib originally shipped with my Noodler's Ahab. The pen has a good ink flow, with no startup problems. As for the nib, when I put it on my Ahab it becomes way too wet and too broad for normal use. The feed of the X750 seems to work well even with a flex nib.

    Hi sbrebrown - I recently purchased a Jinhao x750 variation, so I turned to TH-cam for some video information, and luckily I brought up and watched your review. Thank-you. You gave me a better understanding of this Chinese branded and manufactured fountain pen. When I reached the writing sample of the review, I had a difficult time focusing on your words because I am so fascinated by your gorgeous, fluid penmanship - I actually was somewhat mesmerized by your prowess while writing with a fountain pen. Enough gushing. Thank-you for your very informative video review!

      My 2 pens arrived... No problems.. Build quality really quite good... Ok I ink them up with diamine honey orange... One of them writes very dry and eventually stops writing and the other writes perfectly. I looked at the tines and feed on the one that stops and saw the gap to the air hole was quite big so I decided to pinch the nib with pliers to close the gap a little. It worked and now writes without stopping. The nibs on both are quite smooth too.

    Great informative video. Good to have found a reviewer I actually like watching.
    After decades of making do with a standard ballpoint I have come to my senses and returned to fountain pens. My trusty Parker Reflex still works fine but I thought I would go in search of other pens to use. I bought the X750 (sparkly) - took a few weeks to come from China. What you get for the money paid is AMAZING. For a returner I am preferring this to the Parker. The X750 writes smoothly - though like others I cannot UNSEE the large nib now it's been mentioned. I'm using Diamine Quartz Black ink. I think then pen is top heavy if you try to use it with the cap posted but that's nothing to worry about. The grip for me is good. I too have started to collect these low priced, direct from China pens. It's anyone guess as to where this latest collecting fad will end up.

  • @VampireKa1n
    @VampireKa1n 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Some of these Jinhao pens DO have gold plating, but they actually stamp the 18kgp thing on the nibs before they add it, so the ones that don't have the plating still say that.

    After watching this I ordered one of these for $4.40 with free shipping. It's a black model with a matt textured body and matching end caps. It writes nicely and the only problem is the body scuffs slightly from posting. Not a problem as I don't post but it had been posted before I got it and has a ring of slight scuffing. Lovely pen though.

    I went to the xfountainpens site, and ordered an X750 and an X450, thinking they're the same as yours. They arrived today. It turns out they're Bulow pens, and I can tell you that they're great pens! They're about €10 each and they look like €500. My wife (I'm still laughing) almost had a heart attack expecting to hear the price :)
    The x450 writes super-smooth, the x750 has a tiny bit of tooth, but they're both great, wet and springy! I suggest you try one (x450 perhaps) and give us a review :)

    The Jinhao x750 is a beautiful pen if you can get one with the latest ink converter, which doesn't run dry until it's empty
    The all-plastic converters have to be primed repeatedly, although I've heard that washing them with detergent or ammonia washes out some oil from the manufacturing process, and then they run better
    My x750's (3) all came with steel nibs with "18KGP" stamped on them, but not a glimmer of gold to be seen
    The X450 DOES come with a gold plated nib (otherwise the nib is identical) The flanges on the finger grip of the X450 don't match my writing style however, but I got one just for the flashy nib
    With Hero 234 Black ink the X750 is so smooth it's almost sensual. I've never enjoyed writing before but now I find it therapeutic to use in the middle of a long hard working day
    They are a real conversation starter with my clients, and they're amazed when I let them try it out. At $3.50 including postage (ebay) you don't need to be precious about them

  • @markos741

    Well, a $0.99 pen, is always a great pen. I don't think there is anything at this price range that could bother me. It could be radioactive and still could not complaint ;) I haven't found that price yet (I've looked on eBay but all Jinhao pens started from 4-5 dollars, so I got mine from where you've suggested. But still, even at $9 I can't complaint. I'm just waiting for the pens ready to play with them :) I think I prefer the X450 though.

    I am really enjoying my Jinhaos having increased my collection to six. Its the colours you know. One common thing I have found is that the ink seems to stick to the wall of the converter and they are reluctant fillers. Nib work has been minimal. Must just be lucky I guess

    I love this pen. I got a few of them for myself and friends. I find that the cap tightness varies between each pen. I don't mind a tighter cap, but I did get one where the cap is on the verge of being loose. I wonder if there's anything I can do to make it a tighter fit.

  • @CenaChaingangSolider
    @CenaChaingangSolider 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see. I received two x750s in silver and the one that is loose is in black. All the silver ones have a philips screw and have a nice fit. The black one is odd because it doesn't have one like one of yours. All well. Still a great pen and its not like the cap is falling off. Thank you for the suggestion though :) Now I'll probably take apart one of the silver caps just for fun :P

    I think the silver-coloured pen looks great! I don't yet own an all-metal pen (I doubt the VP counts, since it's got a different sort of finish). Since the pen seems to be a bit dry, have you worked on the nib to improve the flow? Or maybe you can swap the nib and feed with the X450?

    I know you've got the x750 and x450 in your channel (I've watched the videos :)), but the Jinhao thing is confusing me. Are these Bulow or Jinhao? Or are they the same?! :) Mine read Bulow on the barrel ring and nib. I don't know...but the important thing is that they're great especially if you consider the price.
    Now that I've got my Vac700 demo, and these two...what should be next... :) Thanks for the great vids! Keep it up!

    I've just checked and the gap between the tines tapers away from the breather hole. Anything I can do?
    How do I widen the feed channel? I'm looking @ the feed now. A very fine slit runs along the dorsal aspect from the tip upwards (corresponding w/the tines) but stops just short of the other end. This end has a very fine ventral slit on the first ring only. Should I run a razor blade or scalpel through these slits?

    I think the centre band pattern is actually "bat". In Chinese bat "Fu" sounds the same as "good fortune" although it's different word and Chinese like to decorate using bat pattern.
    Example:
    ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51nz6scAYgL._SY300_.jpg
    heathenchinese.files.wordpress.com/2013/09/bats-on-a-bowl.jpg?w=450
    When you are carrying X750, you are carrying "Fu" - Good fortune with you :)

    I bought a X750 too. A black frosted one. The cap doesn't post well. When writing it constantly falls off. Do you recognise this? The ink flow also isn't very good. It constantly stops writing. Than I turn the piston of the converter a bit. That works, but it is quite annoying having to do this every other moment. Also ink goes out quickly this way. Any experince with this? In this video it seems okay. Although I saw you do the same thing in the video on the Jinhao X450...

    • @sbrebrown
      @sbrebrown  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      KEMIA This pen isn't designed to be posted, so the cap will fall off if you try. Have you flushed the pen well with dish washing detergent when you received the pen? Machine oil could be stuck in the feed.

      sbrebrown sometimes ink gets stucked in the top of the converter, but that seems to be due to a old ink left in the pen for a longer time since I don't have the same problem with fresh cartridges. Off topic, I have Rotring Freeway FP which spills droplets of ink on the nib and in the cap when I open it. Any idea how can I correct this problem?

    Great vid as usual, Dr.Brown,
    Saw what you did @ the start of your writing sample. Seems to me that you struck gold with the x450 but not the x750. I own a Jinhao x450(Broad) which writes like a dream for 3-4 paras but then starts skipping. I did some work with the tines etc. and the nib became even smoother and wetter. Tried different inks but still skipped.
    I think the feed is drier than the nib, can't keep up and dries out.
    I'd greatly appreciate any insight/suggestions......Thnx

    With my matt black x750 I often get a big blob of ink dropping onto the paper. It was only 99p so no real harm done but it`s a shame because I really love the pen. I`m wondering if, as you state in the video about the tightness of the cap if when I click it shut it causes ink to move down the nib and build up until it blobs out. Possibly not but just a thought.

    • @sbrebrown

    In this review of Jinhao X750, at 9m09s you draw a line with a Lamy 2000. I was wondering: What is the blue ink in that pen? It looks nice in the video.

      ssi1991 I don't have personal experience with that but I got a similar idea with a different nib. What I got was that the ink feed was insufficient for flexing with lots of railroading. But that's only what I heard not my personal story.

    +sbrebrownYou're like the biggest fountain pen collector! I'm curious, are you in the UK or Australia?
    Coming from Europe I could say that out of 100 North American students, one could possibly own a fountain pen. But there are high chances he is either an immigrant or an exchange student.

    Atrociously BAD ink for a darn good pen... If I were you, Sbre, I'd try another ink, if only to do justice to the pen, which deserves it, really. A lot... you know, mate...😊

    • @sbrebrown

      Mine have held up nicely. The fountain pens take standard international cartridges or bottled ink. I don't know anything about the rollerballs.

      My x750 stainless steel is about 5 yrs old, and it is holding up very well. I have no scratches or dings. I've been fortunate in that I have not had any ink in the cap problems. After smoothing, and making the nib a bit wetter (thanks Stephen), it writes even better. During the summer I swapped the nib for my Ahab flex, and it worked beautifully. It is a nice, inexpensive pen. Granted it is not a Visconti or MB, but I've received some positive comments on the look of the pen when I carry it.

  • @ryokan9120
    @ryokan9120 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's a bad choice of ink colour. It gives the illusion of watered down black ink and is bad for demonstrative purposes.

    • @sbrebrown
      @sbrebrown  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is grey, not black.

    • @ryokan9120
      @ryokan9120 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sbrebrown I am aware of that. In my humble opinion, a darker and more vivid colour would have worked much better for demonstrative purposes. A faded grey simply doesn't work for the intended purpose. I hope I haven't caused any offence.
