    Always feels good to solve some of these tractor riddles they try to kick our butts, and you didn't need any orange paint. Lol. You've got a beautiful spread there, and a great assortment of attachments. Those 2038r's are one of the best john deere offers in my opinion. I've never heard a bad thing said about Artillian. I have the same tractor and use IBC totes for firewood and have the same issue of lift capacity. I was thinking of rigging up some kind of lightweight loops on the totes to use the quick attach system to lift the totes without a fork frame at all. ?? Maybe a piece of angle iron bolted onto the tote frame with the quick attach loops welded on. Don't need the lower pins, just the loops. ???

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same thought of finding a way to lift them without using a fork frame at all. The problem with the ideas I had was that they all require the loader to be up higher which reduces the lift
      Let me know if you figure out a creative solution

    Hi I enjoy watching your videos I was wondering if you can make a video showing the non self-leveling loader and the artillian Forks and see if it will lift the basket and if not adjust the hydraulic pressure to see if it helps

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I traded in my non-self-leveling loader to get the new one so I no longer have the option to demonstrate that.
      I did try To lift it with the normal loader and the Artillian pallet fork frame, but at that time I only had the longer forks.
      Having the lighter forks on they artillian frame would have helped but I don’t think it would’ve got it to the truck bed. If you’re trying to lift IBC totes of firewood, keep in mind that the wood I am using is not seasoned and is there for a little bit heavier

      @@RockhillfarmYT okay that is cool I was just wondering because I only need to lift them about a foot off the ground just to move them around and move them in my basement by my wood stove and if you don't mind me asking what is the price of the self-leveling loader

  • @khtractors
    @khtractors 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can’t believe how much more that self leveling loader will lift. Can you tell a difference in the geometry of the loader in relation to the Jack angles that might make the difference? I’d be curious to know why it lifts more then a standard loader. Glad you accomplished your goal.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has the extra bar along the top of the loader that hooks onto a triangle plate. The curl cylinders also hooked to that plate and then there is an additional triangular mechanism down where the bucket attaches.
      Basically I think those Extra pivot points give it a mechanical advantage
      I’m no engineer but I’m going to look at all that when I do a full review on the loader
      As always thank you for watching and commenting

  • @PurpleCollarLife
    @PurpleCollarLife 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video showcasing the benefit of the weight-savings of the Artillian fork frame/forks! We love ours. Were you adjusting the front/back level of the tote as you lifted, or was the self-leveling loader doing that on it's own? If it does it automatically, that's amazing!

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was not adjusting the tilt/curl.
      When I first pick it up I do a little bit of manual curl. After that I just pull the lever back and it maintains that amount of curl automatically
      It makes me think about the video you published where the totes tried to slide off on you. This loader would have prevented that.

  • @michaelwahl8100

    One issue I found with my self leveling loader is when I scoop loose material. I was always in the habit of raising the load a bit and snapping the bucket back to get the material away from the front edge and keep it from dribbling out as I transported it. Can't really do that too well with the self leveler. If you're using forks a lot the self leveler is worth the extra $, but if you're mostly moving dirt and stone you may be happier staying with the standard set up

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Everything you said is true although the me the biggest factor on the self leveling loader is how much you need to be able to lift.
      That extra capacity really meant a lot to me before I got the skid loader

  • @rodneytsteele
    @rodneytsteele 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Using shorter forks, do you think it will beat up the underside of your totes? I know the 42 inch forks should be long enough to completely go under the totes, I wonder if the 36 inch might put added pressure on the bottom and eventually punch the bottom out. I currently have 40 totes and they cost anywhere from $40-50 Canadian each so I want to try to take care of them. Let me know if you find it beats them up or not, if there good I might consider saving some weight and going the same route.

    • @RockhillfarmYT

      It doesn’t seem to be hurting the totes, but I have only been using them this way for the last month

    finally a semi-scientifically done test! lol thanks for showing the effects of the variables independently, I thought of a couple more for you, lol. What if there's freezing rain, snow, etc covering the wood/tote LOL!
    Another question maybe you can put in your review of the MSL, with all the extra linkages/pins/etc does the loader feel more..."wobbly", especially with more weight that it lifts?

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are definitely a lot of variables and I didn’t realize until I was finished recording that I didn’t have the throttle up very high.
      I’ll keep that in mind when I do the loader review

  • @dodgetrucksrule0620
    @dodgetrucksrule0620 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It would have been nice to see it more broken down. Use the 48” forks on the artilian frame and see if it would lift. Then try the 36” forks on the frontier frame. Also instead of spending the money on artilian frame I would take the top guard extra weight off the frontier. I am growing to the idea of the self leveling loader too.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did another video where I did a full breakdown of the weight of each of the components. I weighed the forks separately from the frames and did a comparison.
      You save about 120 pounds from my heaviest pallet forks set up to the lightest which is significant but I think the self-leveling loader gained me twice that much difference. Check your time with Tim has a video showing exactly how much extra weight you can lift with that loader at different heights because it’s not a static number.
      I traded my other loader in on this one and it took some negotiations with the dealership but it ended up Increasing the payment I made it to John Deere every month, but it didn’t cost me anything out-of-pocket
      One more note about the artillian fork frame is that I wanted that frame more for attaching a grapple to it but the same frame I use on the grapple works on the forks and saves me wait there
      Buying that frame just to save weight on your existing forks is not a cost of effective way to do it
      It’s ideal for someone who is either already wanting to purchase a grapple or someone who does not have a pallet forks frame

    I'm in the camp of not overclocking a piece of equipment and/or not running in continuous operation at, or near it's operating capacity. Even if my tractor can physically lift something, I consider it to be overloaded if can't lower it without excessive jerking.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I definitely hear what you’re saying and considered that in terms of stress on the front axle, but this is a John Deere designed part that is made for this machine and it accomplishes the increased lift capacity through mechanical advantage of the triangular plates on the loader.
      The other way I was able to lift more is by reducing the weight of the pallet fork frame
      Thanks for watching

  • @mattius459

    Doesn't the tractor lift more at higher throttle? So why did you keep it low throttle? Also don't understand why you wouldn't check the pressure before buying a bunch of new equipment? I'm sure you did think of that but chose to present it this way for some reason.
    Either way I've got my 2038R also having trouble lifting a 275 IBC tote and currently troubleshooting the best solution.
    I've got regular loader and clamp-on forks and it can't even lift a 3/4 full tote of fresh cut oak more than a few inches. Guessing the clamp forks are holding the tote out too far. Also going to check the pressure. Happy to hear any other advice you have.
    Also what exact model are the forks?

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It lifts more at higher throttle but not as big of a difference as you would think.
      Having it at a lower throttle was an accident during the video filming. When I was editing the video I realized it wasn’t throttled up. The first day that I put wood in the totes I tried to lift it at full throttle and couldn’t do it.
      I ordered the MSL loader months before I decided to put firewood in totes, The timing of that arriving was just a coincidence but I think it took three months for me to get the MSL in
      I ordered the pressure gauge the day that I found out I couldn’t lift the totes
      Changing the hydraulic pressure was a last resort for me. I was assuming that it was set correctly which ended up being the case, and I was only going to turn it up if it was set too low
      When the gauge came in I did a video showing that my hydraulic pressure is right in the middle of the recommended range
      The loader was the biggest difference but shaving over 100 pounds off of the pallet forks also helped. I got the pallet forks from artillian. They are the 36 inch

      I generally always run the tractor in the auto throttle mode so that it throttles up when I’m pushing the pedal.
      Occasionally when I’m lifting something but not moving I forget to increase the throttle which is what happened in this case. Also possibly distracted by filming

    I have the exact same tractor, 2021 model. There is nothing wrong with your tractor. You need to raise your rpms before lifting a load. You cannot use low idle rpms. You might need half rpms, or full rpms of the tractor to raise your load into the truck. I had the same issue and an old timer said raise your rpms dummy and it worked. No need to go buy a bunch of crap for your tractor. The forks you got from the dealer would probably work with high rpms. TRY IT then reply :)

      I have 350 hours on my tractor in less than a year. I promise you before I went through all this I tried it with the RPMs up.
      I made three videos about trying to lift these totes with the tractor and in one of those instances I forgot to raise the idle while recording
      I think I even mentioned in the video that I had forgotten to do it while I was recording
      The firewood totes weigh a lot more than the tractor is rated to lift
      The NSL loader would not lift these

      I hope my reply didn’t come across as rude
      I run a manufacturing operation and we receive semi loads of Freight on a regular basis and this is our forklift so I have to know my exact lift capacity at different heights.
      Shipments over 1500 pounds I have to request that they be split on the two pallets or I have to pay for a lift gate which I don’t like to do
      The mechanical self-leveling loader made what we do much easier

    • @PriceActionResearch
      @PriceActionResearch 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RockhillfarmYT No your reply is fine. Forks are complicated. Swapping frames, arms, and loads plus adjusting hydraulics. The thing is though the hydraulic pressure comes from the rpms of the tractor. This is why when you raise the rpms you get all the air bubbles and other issues out of the lines while raising the rpms. Now at full rpms, you should have full hydraulic pressure if you don't there is too much air in the system. You can purge this air. How air gets in is when you unplug and replug attachments. So, your hydraulic system needs constant monitoring. Unfortunately, just the way it is just like we all have to pay bills.
