we just purchased a Stearns and Foster..pillow top model Lux Estate and has been delivered and set up and it is truly a first rate mattress...extremely well made, comfortable, but on the frame a bit higher than what we had before...We love it, so comfortable, no transfer of motion...great support, edge support amazing...Pricey but would highly recommend for something you spend a third of your life on and sleeping. Looks us two years to decide...and kept coming back to the Stearns and Foster as our preferred choice...
Very happy that I went with my gut and returned the Stearns & Foster I was talked into buying. Luxury, no. It was supposed to be so supportive and relieve pressure but it was like sleeping in a sinking marshmallow. Sucked my hips down into a deep hole so that it put me out of alignment, I felt like I was tilting so I woke up constantly stuffing pillows all around me to try and hold myself. And I couldn't move! Forget shifting because you can't shift out of that hole. It was very hot despite features to prevent that. Also, the quilted top is way too much! They are like mini holes topping the hole your body makes, and they are very uncomfortable. Even my kitty wouldn't get up on that thing (broke my heart) because her little paws stepped in holes and she hated it. I learned that I never want a bed with any quilting, euro, pillow anything! Smooth tight top for me. I could tell right away that the bed would indeed sag in a matter of months if it was this bad new. Personally, I believe the comments on social media are bought, and it's weird for such a big grand band to have such little presence and actual interactions. Any real engagement was the same sagging complaint. No thank you. I think these were once good beds but they've cut corners and are now unreliable 2ith huge quality abd durability issues. I exchanged it for what I wanted, a medium hybrid (Tempur-pedic). Funnily, at first I thought I'd made anither grave error, because my body was now adapted to the marshmallow that the medium hybrid felt hard, and I lost a few inches. But in a couple days it had broken in and my brain reconfigured. It's so comfortable and truly supports my body. Just a gentle hug, no sinking. Mattress purchase was the most stressful experience ever. Worse than buying a car! We do NOT need 50 million mattress companies! Too much. Good God. Advice... Research and barrow it down to just 3 based on your sleep style and preferences or you'll drive yourself mad. Watch out with reviews because they ars bought! Go for real customer experience. Now, it's true that people tend to write negative and don't bother when positive. But if it has overwhelmingly just positive reviews, if there is a significant percent of people who report the same exact issues, then be suspicious. Mattresses are so personal and subjective, what one person finds comfirt you could find torture. I will say that the beds in the store feel different to me than what you get. There's no comparison between testing it and actually sleeping, and I don't kniw anyone who has time or desire to camp out. I really don't think testing them made all that much easier for these reasons, but I'm still super glad I bought from a store and I'd never be comfortable with a bed from a box, folded twice and flattened like a car in a junk yard. It's counter intuitive that it wouldn't weaken it. PLUS, having to drag that thing and unbox it, wait to inflate. Not for me. I'm super thrilled with my decision and glad I unloaded thst S&F before it turned to a worse nightmare. Having a store made the exchange easy. Wouldn't recommend this company.
I would have never thought that I would be watching a mattress video. If you were my salesman, I would have bought a Stearns & Foster bed. The Macy's worker just wanted to sell me any kind of mattress but I did not budge.
Hi -- and thanks for the compliment, although we really are not trying to sell you ANY particular bed. Our aim is to get you as much information about them so you can judge for yourself if a mattress will fit your needs. Have you taken our quiz yet? Just answer a few questions about your needs and preferences and get a short list of mattresses that will be most likely to work for you. And for all mattresses on GoodBed, after you take the quiz, you will see your personal "match score" for that bed. You can start the quiz here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/quiz/ Hope that's helpful!
I must agree! I went to Mattress Firm the other day and got introduced to Stearns & Foster. Which are a very well made mattresses. This man has made me want to go back and purchase a Stearns & Foster mattress. Thank you sir, you explained very well.
Great video! I purchased my first Stearns and Foster mattress several years ago and it was absolutely money well spent!!👍👍. Without getting out of bed right now to check the label LOL😹😹, I can’t remember which one I have, but it’s one of the firmer ones with plush pillow top and one of the memory foams. I describe it as firm and soft at the same time. Sooooo comfy!!
Excellent job!! The way you communicate the information is great. How many classes did you take?😁 I've watched this twice already...leaning more towards the lux estate hybrid...this would be my 2nd purchase of S@F.
I'm trying to replace 2 SF mattresses I bought 25 years ago. At the time, the one's I bought were SF's top of the line. None of the mattresses you've shown even come close to the quality from 25 years ago. It's depressing shopping for new mattresses. All this memory foam will break down long before the beds I bought 25 years ago.
Hi. Thanks for the comment. You aren't alone in this sentiment. Part of it is the old "they don't make em like they used to", but there's also no denying that mattresses are now more complex, using a bigger variety of materials -- and a lot of times, those newer materials are an unknown factor when it comes to longevity. Mattresses from 25 years ago were pretty simple: Some springs with a little foam on top and that was about it. As for the memory foam in the current S&F line, not all of them have it, or have very much of it. The higher end versions have 3" or 4" of it. But if you aren't a fan of memory foam, maybe take a closer look at the Estate Hurston or Rockwell models. We do like the springs S&F is using in all of these models - the Intellicoils.
I slept on one of my friends Stern and Foster and I've been trying to find a cheaper matress that can get close to the same feeling her matress provided. I think it was Stern and Foster lux estate Emmie Rose. The most comfortable matress I've ever slept on in my life. I but i think they start out between 2-3,000 dollars 😔. I'm trying to find a significantly cheaper matress that has the same melt in the bed feeling this specific matress provides. Any suggestions?
Hi Robert -- Thanks for your question. We can certainly help you find something similar that will fit your needs. Your best bet is to start with our GoodBed Match Quiz, which asks questions about your needs and preferences. When it asks whether you like feeling like you're 'nestling' into a bed, you'll want to say yes, and you can also specify how much memory feel you want. You can find the GoodBed Quiz here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/ In the meantime, one option that does come to mind off the top of my head that seems like it might offer similar construction and feel is the Alexander Hybrid from Nest Bedding. You can find ratings and reviews from hundreds of owners of this mattress (along with our assessment of it) here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-line/nest-bedding-alexander-hybrid/ I hope that's helpful.
Hi, @Goodbed. I recently stayed at an Airbnb with a 2015 S&F King-Sized "Emmie Rose" ("LXP EPT") and fell in love with the bed. When I learned from your website that S&F had revamped all of their lines in 2019, I was disappointed because I had finally found my "Goldilocks" bed - the bed of my dreams - literally. Would you be able to point me to the most similar bed in their new lineup? I am hoping for response in time to take advantage of the Memorial Day sales. I hope to hear from you soon!!!
@Amy Price Probably way late, but I was in the same dilemma. My wife and I bought a queen size Emmie Rose in 2015 and LOVE IT. Now we want a king of the same bed, so with it no longer being available I reached out to S&F and a customer service rep told me the Lux Estate Cassatt Plush pillow-top would be the most similar to it in their current line-up. I can also confirm that we have had the Emmie Rose for almost 8 years now and its as comfortable now as it was when we first bought it. As long as they keep making the beds the same feel and quality, S&F will be our go-to choice.
Not sure if you are still reading comments on these videos. I was wondering if you could give any insight now that its 2022 in the quality from this lineup, I'm trying to decide between the Stearns Lux Hybrid Pollock and the Tempur pro adapt hybrid. I like the feel of both but when I google around I find a lot of people complaining about the stearns having quality issues and not lasting very long before developing an impression or sagging and that they wont warranty unless its like 1 1/2 inches vs tempurs 3/4inch warranty. A lot of the comments seemed to be from a few years ago and I was just wondering what the overall opinion is today on the quality for the money vs the tempur bed (Both are around $3k)
Hi there, and thanks for your question. As you have found, it can be tricky to know how much to rely on consumer reviews for mattresses since 1) Issues typically don't arise until after a few years of ownership and 2) By then, the mattress that person is talking about may no longer be on the market. I don't mean to suggest that owners themselves aren't reliable, just that by the time problems happen to the models from a few years ago, those models have been changed (and one would hope, improved), so those durability issues with prior models may no longer be relevant to your purchase of a new model. Along these lines, I would concur that we saw a trend wherein the S&F mattresses sold roughly 5-10 years ago seemed to see a disproportionately high level of complaints about body impressions and sagging. That said, that trend so far seems to have turned back in a positive direction with the last couple iterations of this line (each iteration is generally sold for 2-3 years). The models available now have been on the market since 2019, and I would estimate that the level of these types of complaints we've seen on these models has been at least average, if not better than average, relative to other high-end innerspring mattress lines. Overall, I would say that both Tempur-Pedic and Stearns & Foster have good overall reputations in terms of materials. They do differ in terms of warranty. For units with a pocketed coil support, like the Stearns & Foster collection, the industry standard is 1.5". Tempur-Pedic began by making all-foam mattresses, and for those, the industry standard is 0.75". Now that Tempur-Pedic has stated making hybrid mattresses, it has kept the same 0.75" indentation/depression warranty. So you are correct -- the body impression warranty for the ProAdapt Hybrid does include a more generous coverage for body impressions. Regardless of model, we have seen that many body-impressions complaints can be caused not by the mattress, but by the foundation. Today's hybrid mattresses can weigh upwards of 80-100 pounds -- far more than a typical innerspring mattress. That means they need an appropriate foundation or a platform to support their weight, and old foundations just aren't up to the task. Whatever you buy, be sure to read the guidelines on what type of support or foundation you'll need. Platform beds or box-style foundations with closely spaced slats (most manufacturers advise no more than 3 inches apart) and adjustable bases are usually what's recommended. Hope that's helpful and thanks again for the question!
I have a Stearns & Foster Kessington King PillowTop from 2005... If I had to guess it is plush or ultra plush.... All of my family and friends say it's the BEST mattress they've ever slept on. What would be the equivalent in the current Stearns & Foster line-up?
Switched from a 20 year old twin bed to the pollock hybrid Queen and although it is very comfortable, the longer I sleep on it the hotter it gets. It’s gotten to the point now where it’s equivalent to sleeping on a heating pad even with the house set at 64 degrees and two fans on with cooling sheets. They state the mattress has cooling technology and I can see the vents in it but it doesn’t FEEL like there is any ventilation at all.
Hi there -- thanks for your comment, and sorry we missed this earlier. The reason you're getting hot on that mattress is most likely because of the lack of body surface area exposure. When you are on a mattress that has deeper than average cushioning and conforms more closely to your body, one drawback can be that less of your body's 's surface area is exposed to the air. Exposure to the air is the most efficient way for your body to dispel heat, so when less of your body's surface area is exposed to the air, your body is not able to dispel its heat as efficiently. FWIW, in our overall temperature ratings, the current S&F line tends to fall between Pretty Good and Very Good in terms of its ability to keep you sleeping cool. But perhaps counter-intuitively, it's actually the higher end of the line that comes in at the Pretty Good (ie, lower) end of this range. This is not due to lack of airflow so much as it is from lower scores for body surface area exposure, which in turn stems from the luxuriously thick and comforting comfort layers on these models. Of course, at the same time, these very same comfort layers are what make these mattresses so comfortable. As such, for those who have more of a tendency to sleep hot, this construction can be a bit of a double-edged sword and/or may take some getting used to. But for many others, they will reap only the benefits of these comfort materials, without overheating. I hope that's helpful.
Hi, thank you for the review. Do you have an opinion on the Tight and Firm Hepburn model? I’m either buying the Hepburn or a Tempur Pedic medium firm Pro Adapt hybrid. Which is the best for longevity and quality in your opinion?
Hello, thanks for the informational video on S & F. I bought a S&F Hurston L/Plush mattress, at the store it seem be supportive, however, when I slept on it the first night, I was extremely Hot, and the second night a little clamy. Your video says it has a natural fiber on top, but the tag does say it is made of polyester and rayon. Will this mattress stay as warm or will adjust to temp of room and of my body> Also, looking at returning this for a Sealy Icomfort blue fusion 100., or Sealy Ultimate Rose Garden Euro Pillowtop. Which again, looking for breathability. Thank you.
Hi Pat -- Thanks for the comment. The Stearns & Foster Estate models tend to have a good amount of air flow on account of their construction, but otherwise not a lot of cooling features per se. In our video, we do discuss the covers, which contain some Tencel fiber (a type of fiber that has some moisture wicking properties). But as you noted, your label says the covers also contain polyester and rayon. So while some of these fibers are made from wood pulp, on balance we would not (and did not) describe it as a "natural" cover overall. If sleeping hot is your major concern, you might steer your research towards some brands that combine a lot of airflow with covers made from organic cotton, natural wool, etc. We have reviewed many of these models, such as the Birch mattress for example, which has an organic cotton cover, wool quilting, and natural latex: * Birch: www.goodbed.com/reviews/birch-mattress-review/ Here are a few others to check out along these same lines: * Happsy (a certified organic mattress): www.goodbed.com/reviews/happsy-mattress-review/ * Real Bed (organic cotton cover, latex): www.goodbed.com/reviews/real-bed-mattress-review/ Hope that's helpful!
@@goodbed Thank you for your quick response, and information regarding this mattress. I will certainly check out the sites you have provide me for an alterative.
Thanks for getting back to me regarding if we received the correct firmness mattress. I found a info tag on the side of the mattress. Head side. It had info there as to what the mattress was. So I will go with that for now. It just seems very firm and not to forgiving. I now have a 2” topper on the mattress and covered it with the mattress protector and then fitted sheet. Slept on it once so far to help lessen the shoulder pain it help somewhat but the mattress sleeps warm and now with the topper it is between warm and hot. Will see how this goes since I have not had it a month yet and will give it some time. Hopefully it won’t be too unbearably warm.
Great video. Quick question about the coil guage that you mention at time 2:55. For a stomach and back sleeper who desires a firm bed (level 3), are the softer coils better or worse? Is it better to get a model released in prior years?
Hi David -- Thanks for your question. The coil gauge change is not dramatic, but on the margin, I would say that that it has much more potential benefit for a side sleeper than it does for a back sleeper. And on its own, that change would probably not be advantageous for a stomach sleeper. That said, in terms of whether to get one of the previous models (to the extent they are still available), you'd have to consider more than this one change, since you'd also be giving up the other improvements made in the 2019 lineup. Net, if you're looking at the firmest mattress in the Estate lineup, I think you'll find that bed to be fairly similar from the previous collection to the new collection. If you are a heavier stomach sleeper, then the prior version of this model would probably have a slight edge but otherwise I probably wouldn't go out of my way to try to find that previous model. I hope that's helpful.
I have tried 0=20 mattress and I like this one the best but with that being said, the fact they are smaller gauges the mattress will not last as long and they will sag like all mattress that are not made with king coil.
Hi DD -- Thanks for your question. TBH we did not spend a lot of time looking at the foundation for this collection. However, as a general best practice, manufacturers sell foundations that are supportive and strong enough for the mattresses they sell, as a quality box spring is necessary to keep the warranty valid and prevent issues down the road. In addition, if the boxspring were to break during ordinary use, that would be a very clear-cut warranty claim, so I wouldn't worry too much about that possibility. I hope that's helpful.
I have the rockwell king plush pillow top and wanted to know if i got the firm or the plush mattress. i checked the tag they put on the end of the beds but it does not tell you what the firmness is plush, medium or firm.. the mattress is way to heavy for me alone to pick it up to see if there is any info on the bottom besides the law tag. im not sure if the law tag has info about the mattress being plush or firm.. is there a way of knowing what i have? look forward to hearing back from you. thanks by the way great great videos on all your mattresses..
How do you like it? I am debating that one versus the S&F Lux Estate Cassatt Luxury Plush. I sleep on side with shoulder and hip pressure points/soreness with my current crummy mattress. Also how is the motion transfer...will be sharing bed with my girlfriend. She is mainly a side sleeper, too.
@@Thomas-fk3cw it’s great a little firm at first. One thing I’m trying to get use to is the pillow top with the puffyness. When you roll over on your back it feels a bit lumpy. Keep in mind the cassette model has little micro springs in that portion that may enhance the lumpy feel a bit more. Not sure if it would but figured I would mention this to you since you are interested in that one. I’m hoping in time that will lessen. I’m a side sleeper and my wife the same. Hardly any motion when you move around which I do a lot at night. Really hard to get satisfied with one that will give you the best sleep you can have off a new mattress. They say 30 days plus to break any mattress in a have your body adapt to it.
@@GKUZYK1 Thanks for the response. Tough decision. But I'm moving way up from a cheap full mattress to one of those in a king so I'll probably be easily satisfied. Hah. But, there's so many choices...it's overwhelming.
Hi George. It's probably on the law label, but it will be in "code" most likely - -part of some string of numbers. I bet if you contact S&F they can decode it for you.
Great video. I know this is an older video, but do you know which retail/consumer bed would be equivalent to the Stearns & Foster Haraway Soft Euro Pillowtop? It's a hotel bed, but the best bed I've ever slept on. Thanks.
If you were to choose between the beauty rest black c class plush pillow top and Stearns and foster cassat luxury plush ept mattress which one would you recommend? I'm a side sleeper and petite. I've watched your videos on both brands. Very informative thanks! But still can't decide. I like the mattress on the soft side with that sink in envelope feeling and I usually have pressure on my hips and shoulders from my current mattress.
Hi Jennifer. If you have tried both and you're stuck on choosing, you might consider other factors: Who is the retailer? What is their return policy? What are the delivery charges? Will they remove your old bedding? Those factors can effect your satisfaction down the road. We would never suggest a person buy a mattress based solely on those factors, but if you need a "tiebreaker" service and support can make the difference. Are you aware of GoodBed's $50 cash back program? No matter what mattress you buy, you can get a $50 gift card from GoodBed by shopping at one of the stores in our Trusted Retailer Network -- and that's on top of whatever discount or sale you may get from the retailer. These retailers have been vetted by us for honesty, integrity, and fair pricing, and you can search by zip code to find a trusted store near you. Here are more details: www.goodbed.com/#save
Hi Donna -- Thanks for your question. Stearns & Foster makes a wide range of mattresses, and some of them are offered exclusively at certain stores, like Costco. With those exclusive models, it's hard to know exactly what's in them, since the manufacturer doesn't publish nearly as much information about them. On balance, I would assume that a Costco model is using some of the same materials as other Stearns and Foster mattresses, but is likely not the same overall construction.
Hi great video. We are looking very seriously on the S&F mattress. I notice you did not talk much about the differences between the LUX Estate models. I believe you said 9. How would you rate the Cassatt, and is there a better one? What would be the differences?
Hi Kevin. Thanks for the question. The Lux Estate has less memory foam than the Lux Estate Hybrid models. So if you want more of a memory foam 'sinking' feeling, the Lux Estate Hybrid is probably where you want to be. Regarding the Cassatt - there are six models. Three of them are what we call 'tight top' models, and the other three are pillow-tops, so those will have some extra 'squish' and cushioning depth on top. As for the three in each series, you'll have a firmer one, one that's more medium, and one that's softer. Which you choose really comes down to personal preference, and your needs. Have you taken our quiz? It's really the best way to input ALL your needs and see which mattresses come closest to meeting them. Here is a link that will take you directly to the Stearns & Foster Lux Estate line. Answer the questions and you'll get a "match score" for each of the six. Here's the link: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/quiz/?product=l+stearns-foster-lux-estate
Would you recommend this over tempurpedic? I have luxe breeze but my physical therapist recommended s and f for less back pain life. Do these sleep hotter? Which would you put your money on?
Hi Victor. Thanks for the question. Both brands make dozens of models at varying price points and construction, so we would not tend to recommend and entire brand over another entire brand. It's possible that your PT may have meant steering away from the "sinking" feeling of memory foam. I could see how (depending on your issues) that deep, slow memory foam feel might not be the best (of course, for other people, the conformance of memory foam helps). Generally, we do think memory foam can feel hotter to sleep on -- and that's historically been a complaint about Tempur-Pedic beds, which of course they have tried to combat by adding cooling features like phase-change materials. Mattresses that use an innerspring support (like S&F models) and have more shallow cushioning (less memory foam) tend to feel cooler because of more potential airflow, and more of your body exposed to the air. So maybe go back to your PT and ask specifically why they are recommending S&F to you -- or whether it's more about recommending an innerspring mattress over all-foam like your Tempur-Pedic.
This is a great video! I purchased a Newgate Luxury Firm by Stearns and Fosters about 10 years ago, and I instantly fell in love with it. Do you know which current S&F model might be comparable to the Newgate? or any other mattress on the market? I’m desperate to find a replacement.
Hi -- thanks for the question. It's a hard one to answer though -- and that's because I can guarantee you that your Newgate mattress today feels different from your brand-new Newgate mattress from 10 years ago. That's because all mattresses soften over time -- but it happens so slowly that your body simply adapts. Your best bet is to head over to GoodBed and take our GoodBed Quiz -- here, we ask questions about your comfort preferences and support needs, and can match you against all the beds in our database. You'll get a "score" for each of them and will be able to see which ones are going to come closest to meeting your needs today. We developed the Quiz exactly for this situation -- where people have a good idea of their comfort preferences, but need help matches those up against the thousands of models out there. You can even choose to filter the results for beds available in your area -- so you can check them out in person. You can start the quiz here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/quiz/
Hi Cyril. The Plaza Baroque is not something that's on our radar, so I don't know anything about its materials and construction. However -- one thing we DO know -- that mattress today feels different than it did when it was new -- you just haven't noticed it over the years of ownership. All mattress soften up over time, but it happens gradually enough that your body just adapts. So even if you could teleport a brand new Plaza Baroque you would likely think it feels firmer than your current mattress. Have you see our GoodBed Quiz? Answer a few questions and we can match your needs against current mattresses, giving you an idea which ones are going to come closest to fitting your needs. If you want another Stearns & Foster, you can even restrict your results to just that brand and see how your preferences match up against their current models. You can start the quiz here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/quiz/ Hope that's helpful!
@@goodbed Called S&F about Plaza Baroque, and someone explained that the new version of that bed would be Cassatt Plush......So, I have to go to store and try it.
I just ordered a Rockwell Ultra firm mattress. I am not a fan of memory foam but I was told that the Indulge memory foam in this mattress is not the same memory foam in a Tempur Pedic mattress. I am a bit worried that it is going to give a similar feeling. The store did not have this mattress in stock so I ordered it sight unseen. I prefer a very firm bed with a firm edge and do not want to feel like I am stuck inside the mattress. I do not like any pillow tops or euro tops. Do you feel that this is the right mattress choice for my preference? I do not see much info in the comments below on Ultra firm mattresses.
Hi Richard -- Thanks for your question. Of the hundreds of mattresses we've tested, the Rockwell Ultra Firm is certainly one of the very few with the least softness and least "sinkage" -- so I would not expect you to have a "stuck in the mattress" type of experience on this mattress. I hope that's helpful.
thanks for helpful reviews.. do u know if softness of euro top of signature lakeridge sold by costco is as soft as the lux estate cassatt euro top? that will help me determine which to purchase.. appreciate your reply.. thank u.
We tried a Stearns & Foster ultrafirm Rockwell Estate bed at Slumberland and loved it! Trying to save money, we bought the Winkbed Firmer and it sleeps too hard and increases my chronic pain. We both are mainly side sleepers. Any advice for where to go from here? We are possibly considering trying either a Dreamcloud or Helix Midnight bed.
In the mattress game, you really do get what you pay for. We replaced a full memory foam mattress with a Winkbed as well and it's not hitting the mark for us either, we are also both side sleepers. We're currently leaning towards S&F and also Kingsdown.
Hi Dave. I'm trying to make a decision on a mattress purchase. Are these reserve models your reviewing here are they the "Hepburn" models? Are they very similar to the Reserve 1,2, and 3 models except newer and slightly different? I am a side and stomach sleeper. Do you think the plush Hepburn and reserve 2 would accommodate these positions?Do you think the Hepburn firm and reserve 3 would accommodate these side and back positions? One last question please; do you think the Hepburn firm and reserve 3 are just as soft as the lux estate firm pillowtop? It's difficult making a decision without having a bed to test. Thank you for any help and suggestions.
Thanks for your question. I can certainly empathize with your confusion and frustration. Have you tried taking the GoodBed Quiz yet? We created it for exactly this reason. It works by asking you all of the relevant questions to fully assess your requirements (including some factors that might actually be important to you but that you would not have otherwise thought to consider), and then using a proprietary matching algorithm to search across all brands to find ones that match your unique needs and preferences. Once you have done that, you can navigate to the Stearns and Foster page on our site and see your Match Score for each model. The Stearns and Foster Reserve are the Hepburn models, yes. You can see a detailed breakdown here: www.goodbed.com/reviews/stearns-foster-mattress-preview/ And here is the link to our Quiz: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/
I have watched this video 3 times, I actually have a question, I just purchased a Stearns & foster mattress, I'm looking forward to getting it delivered this month, my question is its says Lux cassette U mattress, I'm not quite sure what the u means? Excellent training video ..
Hmmm. That's a good question. The "U" could be some kind of retailer designation, or might indicate a manufacturing date. But I'm not aware of it having any material meaning.
Hi and thanks for the comment. It would be pretty amazing to find a store that carries the entire line. More frequently, you'll find that a store has just a few of them. But some definitely carry more than others, so it pays to call first and see what they have in the showroom.
Stearns does indeed have foam made in partnership with Tempur, yes. It is not clear if this is exactly the same composition as the kind used on Tempur's models, though it does have Tempur's branding on it and we expect it to be a similar level of quality. I hope that helps!
Hi and thanks for the comment. It's not a question of "which is better" but "which is better for YOU." That's why we developed our GoodBed Quiz. If you answer some questions about your sleep style, needs and preferences, we can give you a "Match Score" for both of those beds so you can see which would better suit all of your needs. You can start the quiz here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/quiz/
I was curious if the Stearns and Foster Lux Estate Cassatt Luxury Plush Pillow Top Mattress shares this 2019 technology, or is it an older model? Thank you
Hi Arno -- the Cassatt is a current mattress -- you can see the breakdown/names of the whole line in our written coverage, found here: www.goodbed.com/reviews/stearns-foster-mattress-preview/
Hi, I purchased the tempurpedic pro adapt hybrid two weeks ago and it’s killing my back and way too hot. I shopped around and really like the s&f luxe estate pollock hybrid ultra plush. Does this bed have the same issue of heating up as you sleep?
Hi Amber -- In terms of temperature, I think that S&F model will have a little better air flow than the ProAdapt Hybrid, but this will be offset somewhat by the fact that it has even more cushioning depth and conformance, which means less of your body's surface area will be exposed to the air. On balance, we rate the temperature of the Pollock Ultra Plush a smidge better, but it's not an especially significant difference in this area. From a support standpoint, they are pretty similar. So my concern is that if the ProAdapt is killing your back, it's hard to think of a combination of weight, sleep position, and body shape that would get excellent spinal alignment on the Pollock Ultra Plush. That said, spinal alignment can be a little idiosyncratic. I hope that's helpful.
@@goodbed thank you for your response. Is there another bed you would recommend for me? The tempurpedic medium hybrid is too firm so I was thinking the pollock was much softer in comparison. It’s hard to tell just buy trying in store. For specs, I am 120 pounds and sleep in all positions. My current and previous beds were medium firmness and both caused lower back and hip pain.
@@amberhenson3589 I could try making recommendations but truthfully there are a number of other important factors to consider as well, so it would be rather tedious to do it here. The good news is that we created an extremely detailed quiz for exactly this purpose -- it's called the GoodBed Quiz. If you haven't already taken it, you can find it here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/ This quiz will walk you through all of the key considerations and then will show you options that best match your criteria, both online and in nearby stores where possible. You can also click on your match score to get a more detailed understanding of what makes that product better or worse for you. I hope that's helpful.
Thanks for the great review of this product line for Stearns and Foster! In 2018 I purchased a Stearns and Foster Lux Estate Hybrid. I bought the softest of the two versions offered. I purchased from a brick and mortar store, lets just call them MF. I paid $2,700.00. The mattress never has felt even the least bit "plush." Does that tendency in the S & F Lux Estate Hybrid run throughout the line? I feel that my mattress is simply just foam on coils and all this fancy stuff on the sides don't make it any better. It's firm. Thoughts?
Hi David -- Thanks for your question. First, it's important to note that softness is highly subjective, so we often see that what one person considers soft (even too soft), another person will describe as firm (and even too firm). That being said, the unique characteristic of the Lux Estate Hybrids relative to the other S&F lines is that they put the memory foam right up at the top of the mattress, more like a traditional memory foam mattress does, rather than having softer quilting materials on top like a traditional pillow-top mattress would. Memory foam has a tendency to have less surface softness, and instead tends to show its softness in the form of what we call cushioning depth. In other words, a "plush" model in this line will conform to your body like a plush pillow top, but will not have the same amount of surface softness as that plush pillow top. This same dynamic is why we often classify Tempur-Pedic mattresses that the company calls "Soft" as "Firm" on our softness scale. I hope that's helpful.
You hit the nail on the head with "putting the memory foam right on top of the mattress." It needs a layer of more traditional comfort layers first in my humble opinion. Thanks so much for your response!
@@goodbed Your explanation really helped me. I'm debating the Rockwell luxury plush euro pillow top vs the lux Cassatt luxury plush and now know difference in softness between a plush and pillow top. I'll have to go lie on them to see which I prefer. I side sleep with hip and shoulder soreness from my current crummy mattress. One question...any difference in motion transfer between the two models I referenced? I'm getting a king so maybe that's not a big deal. I'm 190 lbs and my smoking hot girlfriend is about 150 lbs.
How would you compare the comfort and feel of the soft lux estate Cassatt pillowtop to the soft Nest Alex/Winkbed/Saatva? I loved the super soft plushy sinky cloud feeling of Cassatt more than anything in store and wanted to know how close the online mattresses would be in feel and comfort
Hi and thanks for the question. We almost always review the "medium" versions of mattresses, since that's the most popular, so we can't directly compare the soft versions of those beds. However, of the three, the Nest Alexander Signature Hybrid was the softest by a pretty wide margin, so we can make an educated guess that the Soft version would be even softer, with deeper cushioning. Hope that helps!
GoodBed appreciate the reply! I’m more concerned about how close the brands feel to one another, so maybe a fairer question would be - how close to the S&F mediums feel to the online mattress mediums? Is there a noticeable difference in feel with S&F being more expensive and ‘luxury’? Or if you were blindfolded could you not tell which one is the luxury brand
similar question ie the comfort and feel of the soft lux estate Cassatt pillowtop to the signature s and f lakeridge pillow top? are they equally soft? thanks
Where is the Stearns & Fosters’ Queensbridge model? I can’t find reviews on it anywhere on youtube or google. All I know is that The Brick sells them, which is where I bought mine from.
That is an older model from around 2014, so it's not covered in our most recent video. We did answer a similar question for another reader a few years ago, though, so I hope this helps: www.goodbed.com/mattress-questions/2389/thoughts-on-the-stearns-foster-queensbridge-euro-top-mattress/
Excellent reviews. I was about to get the Rockwell estate and saw your reviews on the Lux Estate Line Cassatt, and that sold me to move up one extra level to get the needed memory and features i'm looking for. I do want to point out that from the S&F's website they said that only the Lux Estate Hybrid Pollock version comes with IntelliCoil micro coils and not the Casset, so not all Lux Estate models has the micro coil as you mentioned in your video.
Glad to hear this was helpful for you -- thanks so much for letting us know! Re: the micro-coils, thanks for pointing that out. I did just double-check the detailed specs that were provided to us by the company and see the micro-coils present in each of the 3 models as the layer directly above the pocketed coil support unit. That said, this is a small enough change that it's possible it could be a design tweak they made in a couple of the models since then. I hope that's helpful, and that you're very happy with your choice.
Hi Heather -- Just going based on the fabric, I'm guessing that mattress would be between 1 and 4 years old. You may be able to find the date of manufacture on the law tag though, if it's still on there. If you're looking for more info about that era of S&F mattresses, you can check out our coverage of that lineup here: th-cam.com/video/7yMUT6HpRVs/w-d-xo.html I hope that's helpful.
I’m very happy with the bed I got but these beds seem great for like 4x the price I paid for my bed, I don’t see it being worth it, but this bed seems like the king of memory foam.
Hello I have a question. I think I was sold a knockoff stearns and foster estate bed. I hurt so bad every time I lay down on it. My hands and arms go numb and I just don't think its comfortable at all. Not to mention it's already coming apart and ive only had it maybe less than a month. Please help me. Is there anything I can do about this?
Hi there -- Thanks for your question. I'm afraid I'm not able to speak to that particular model in detail, as it is not one that we have looked at closely. That said, we do prioritize our reviews based on input from our readers, so your interest in this model will certainly be noted. In the meantime, sorry we can't be of more help on this one.
My wife and I tested out the Stearns and Foster reserve pillow top and fell in love with the quality and feel of the mattress. However once we went home and did some research we found numerous complaints about sagging issues. We contacted the salesman and he told us that this was a new product and that those reviews were for previous models. What is your take on Stearns and foster's reliability and do you think we should believe what the salesman told us? Thank you.
kickerbeat I would like to know this as well. I actually purchased one today with these coils...the estate Lux Rockwell plush mattress. It felt amazing by the way. Now I am extremely worried by seeing some of the reviews.
Hi there -- Thanks for your question. This is a completely understandable concern. On the one hand it is certainly true that S&F mattresses went through a period, starting around 2008 or thereabouts IIRC, in which they suffered from an uptick in complaints about body impressions. This followed the switch to one-sided construction across the industry and coincided with the prevalence of thicker and thicker pillow tops, oftentimes containing lower density foams or quilting materials. IMHO, there are still some foams in these mattresses that I am concerned about from a density and longevity standpoint. That said, in recent years, I do think that they have been making concerted efforts to improve the quality of their materials with an eye toward addressing these complaints. I noticed it in the previous collection, released in 2017, but I noticed it moreso in this newest collection, which uses some higher density memory foams that borrow from the expertise on the Tempur-Pedic side of the house (they are part of the same parent company). So while I can't say whether these mattresses will be free of such issues, it is my expectation that the 2019 collection will perform better in this regard than any collection they've released in the past 10 years or so. I hope that's helpful.
@@goodbed Thank you for the informed response. We decided that the risk was too great on a product that costs almost $5,000. At that price point there should be no concern over long term durability IMO. We ended up selecting the dream cloud instead which from your reviews seems to offer comparable quality at a much lower price. Looking forward to its delivery! Thanks again
Hi Ron -- Thanks for your question. The Pollock is another name for the Lux Estate Hybrid collection. You can see our look at that series at 11:38 in the video. I hope that's helpful.
Who makes HIGH END SOLID MATTRESSES THAT USE WOOL AND COTTON layers like the best mattresses used to be made of?? Every "foam" product eventually sinks within a few years...
I glad I found someone like you speaking about Stearns and Fosters mattresses, I just ordered my first one form this brand and would like to know how to properly measure the mattress because I have received it and think I got a state firm 12 inch mattress instead a firm 14.5 inch Rockwell mattress, it would help me a lot if I get some guidance.
Hi Nancy. What a terrific question. I wish there were a standard answer. Some manufacturers measure from the bottom seam to the top seam -- but the "doming" of the cover can certainly add more height. This is why in many of our reviews we actually show you the ruler. But 2.5 inches of difference between what you ordered and what you received is a lot -- it shouldn't be that far off.
Hi. Thanks for the question. Usually when people ask us about 'sagging' they mean body impressions, where a mattresses forms a permanent indentation where your hips are. How quickly that happens depends on a lot of factors -- your body weight, the softness of the mattress, its materials, and whether you spend a lot of non-sleep-time in it (such as watching TV). So we couldn't say -- for any mattress -- how long it will take before noticeable depressions form. We can say that when we examined the Stearns & Foster mattresses, we didn't feel they would hold up for less time that other mattresses, and didn't see any obvious weak leaks that we felt would lead to premature deterioration. Hope that's helpful!
I have a King Aireloom mattress in my master bedroom, and a queen aireloom mattress in my guest room. I also bought a queen aireloom for my parents. I think they are hands down the best mattresses on the market. Firm or plush their handcrafted quality and comfort is my favorite that I have ever slept on. I am worried now after reading reviews that Stearns and Foster mattresses sag rather quickly and thw durability is not good. I bought a 2019 estate lux rockwell plush mattress today. Please tell me this mattress will not sag in six months. I am not a large woman...average size.
Hi Lizzie -- Thanks for your question. As I answered in greater depth in the other thread where you commented, while I can't say whether these mattresses will be completely free of such issues, it is my expectation that the 2019 collection will perform better in this regard than any collection they've released in the past 10 years or so. Please see my other answer for more detail on this though.
I bought a 2017 S&F Reserve #2 (king). Absolutely no sagging, now 2+ years later. They listened and started using much better foams and materials. My mattress looks and sleeps like when I got it two years ago.
Hi Lizzie, now that some time has passed, can you share your thoughts on your Rockwell plush? I am considering purchasing that same one and i was wondering what you've experienced so far. Thank you in advance.
@@madiaautrey5899 HI Madia, I am considering the mattress you referenced. Did you go through with that purchase or find another mattress you liked? The other one I am considering is the lux estate Cassatt luxury plush.
Hi, great video! I have a lower back fusion with metal bars and screws in my back! I've been suffering in pain from it for forever but a lot when trying to sleep. I need something plush and soft with some support. What would you suggest? I have a Sealy memory hybrid now and hate it! Way too firm and hurts ofter a while! Thank you, E
Hi Eric -- Thanks for your question, and your kind words. I'm afraid mattress selection is too personal for us to make a specific recommendation without knowing more about you to better assess your requirements. That said, based on the information you did provide, I would agree that pressure relief sounds like a big priority for you, which does tend to be easier to find on a softer mattress. To get you more specific recommendations, have you taken the GoodBed Match quiz yet? We designed it for exactly this situation. Once you answer a few questions about your body type, sleeping style, and preferences, we can match up your needs against thousands of mattresses from both online and store brands. You can find the quiz here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/ I hope that's helpful.
Hi there -- we examined these mattresses in a showroom setting, so I'm not sure whether the company set up the beds with pillows that are available to the general public or not.
My wife and I watched it and led us to our decision of a Estate Rockwell Firm. A bed for our daughter. We have a Reserve #3 and Love it! We have to go through Mattress Warehouse and the sales person seems to think they are all the same. I am insisting on a specific model and they just don't get it. It's nice to know there are people in the field like yourself who know what they are talking about. Thank you!
very disappointed to see they have so much memory foam-notorious for heat retention- in their mattresses. Surely before their fusion with Tempurpedic and the present memory foam craze they had more natural products like Glencraft and Hypnos i.e. needled horsehair, wool, cotton etc...
Hi. It depends on the model with Stearns & Foster. Most of their mattresses are very traditional feeling. But you're right that materials like horsehair isn't seen much in mattresses generally. Wool is making a comeback, and a number of brands are now using a wool layer, or have wool incorporated into the cover. Cotton, and organic cotton, is very common.
They make crap... I've had mine for less than a year and their comfort layer is sagging already. Why do these companies continue to use these garbage foam comfort layers that don't last? I'm so irritated... Would you happen to know a bed with all latex comfort layer other than avocado? I'm fine with these foam layer beds.
Hi Shawn -- Sure, we've reviewed a bunch of good mattresses that meet your criteria. This type of spring mattress is pretty bouncy -- and without more foams on top, there's not much to dampen motion. If motion isolation is a priority for you, we'd suggest looking for something with 3-4 inches of foam or memory foam on top of the springs, which should do a better job isolating movement. Hope that helps!
we just purchased a Stearns and Foster..pillow top model Lux Estate and has been delivered and set up and it is truly a first rate mattress...extremely well made, comfortable, but on the frame a bit higher than what we had before...We love it, so comfortable, no transfer of motion...great support, edge support amazing...Pricey but would highly recommend for something you spend a third of your life on and sleeping. Looks us two years to decide...and kept coming back to the Stearns and Foster as our preferred choice...
What firmness level? Does it sleep Hot when you don’t turn on the A/C??
Excellent job! This was a VERY helpful video. Thank you for producing it!
Excellent! Thanks for the comment and for letting us know it was helpful to you!
Yeah, these new Stearns and foster mattresses are wayyyy too soft.
I would have never thought that I would be watching a mattress video. If you were my salesman, I would have bought a Stearns & Foster bed. The Macy's worker just wanted to sell me any kind of mattress but I did not budge.

Awesome! So glad you are loving your mattress!
How has it aged??? Any noticeable sags?? How about life span
Excellent job!! The way you communicate the information is great. How many classes did you take?😁 I've watched this twice already...leaning more towards the lux estate hybrid...this would be my 2nd purchase of S@F.
Wow, thank you! We really appreciate the comment, Vonda, and are so happy it's been helpful to you. Good luck with your purchase!

We have reviewed many of these models, such as the Birch mattress for example, which has an organic cotton cover, wool quilting, and natural latex:
* Birch: www.goodbed.com/reviews/birch-mattress-review/
Here are a few others to check out along these same lines:
* Happsy (a certified organic mattress): www.goodbed.com/reviews/happsy-mattress-review/

Good luck George -- hope you are sleeping better.
This was the best explained mattress video I have seen. Thank you for this!
Our pleasure Japhia -- thanks for letting us know it was helpful for you!
I have tried 0=20 mattress and I like this one the best but with that being said, the fact they are smaller gauges the mattress will not last as long and they will sag like all mattress that are not made with king coil.
Looks wonderful. Thank you for this review.
Our pleasure Lucinda! Very glad it was helpful for you.
This video was very helpful!
Thanks for your comment Rosanna -- I'm very glad to hear that!
Could you review the Bedgear M3 launchpad mattress? Curious your thoughts, as they’ve recently entered Macy’s!
Hi +DD -- Thanks for your suggestion. We do prioritize our reviews based on input from our readers so your request here will certainly be noted.
Is the boxspring sturdy? Or will the wooden slats inside the boxspring be easily broken?

Great video. I know this is an older video, but do you know which retail/consumer bed would be equivalent to the Stearns & Foster Haraway Soft Euro Pillowtop? It's a hotel bed, but the best bed I've ever slept on. Thanks.
I bet the lux estate cassett plush euro pillow top is the same one!

I just bpugh5 a firm lux pillow top Stearns and Foster from Costco. Is it of the same quality for the price?

Does anyone know which model is used at loews hotels, really comfortable during my stay
I have been happy with S&F Plaza Baroque? which new model is the same or close to the S&F Plaza Baroque?

By now you should have come to your senses and accept the fact to save up and get the mattress that Your 🫵🏾 body LOVED.

The only tempurpedic worth buying is the pro adapt firm. Everything else is trash and not supportive enough
Are the mattresses being sold now the same as the 2019 models or have they been changed since you made this video? Thanks
Hi Pete -- Thanks for your question. This is the current S&F lineup, so any differences you see would be cosmetic or name only.
@@david61accord My pleasure! I'm very glad that explanation was helpful for you. Thanks again for your comment.
Or if you were blindfolded could you not tell which one is the luxury brand
similar question ie the comfort and feel of the soft lux estate Cassatt pillowtop to the signature s and f lakeridge pillow top? are they equally soft? thanks

Thoughts on the Aireloom line?
I have a King Aireloom mattress in my master bedroom, and a queen aireloom mattress in my guest room. I also bought a queen aireloom for my parents. I think they are hands down the best mattresses on the market. Firm or plush their handcrafted quality and comfort is my favorite that I have ever slept on. My husband and I both experience better quality sleep. We purchased the King Chico, Plush, Lux Top
@@kyndelkyler6780 i ended up getting a Beautyrest Beyond. Not completely happy.
Hi. Your videos are very helpful & I have great confidence in your recommendations & information. Could you tell me if Goodbed ever sends out emails with info about Gift Cards for buying certain products as a means of providing a discount for customers who view your TH-cam videos? I am in receipt of such an email, & in this day & age just want to double check to be sure it is not a scam. Was at City Mattress today & will tell you your videos assisted me in that I was able to reach a decision a lot quicker. (For someone who takes forever to make a decision, this is a really great thing!) 👍Thanks SO much!

Great review!
Thanks! Very glad to hear it was helpful for you!
great review thank you
Wonderful! So glad it was helpful to you!
You'll get a "match score" for each mattress along with specific notes about how that mattress is likely to meet your needs. It might turn up some models you haven't yet considered.
You can find the quiz here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/
I hope that's helpful.
try putting a 1.5 inch memory foam on your mattress. Sure hope it helps.
where can i buy those pillows?
Hi there -- we examined these mattresses in a showroom setting, so I'm not sure whether the company set up the beds with pillows that are available to the general public or not.

Great Video!
Thanks for letting us know it was helpful for you! 😊👍
Thank you!

very disappointed to see they have so much memory foam-notorious for heat retention-
in their mattresses.
Here are a few non-Avocado options:

* Birch: www.goodbed.com/reviews/birch-mattress-review/

I have S&F Estate Bridal 3 and I don't like it. It's firm and after moving to a new house I can feel every movement my husband makes during the night.
