Welcome to our channel! Today we're talking about the differences between Lasik and PRK eye surgery.
Lasik and PRK are both surgeries that have the same goal: to improve vision by reshaping the cornea. Both involve the use of a laser to make the necessary changes.
The main difference between the two procedures is where the laser energy is used. Lasik is a two-step surgery. In the first step, a small flap is cut in the outer layer of the cornea. The laser then reshapes the inner layer of the cornea to adjust for refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. In the second step, the flap is put back in place.
PRK is a one-step procedure in which the laser energy is used to reshape the outermost layer of the cornea. No flap is created and there is no second step.
The recovery time for Lasik is usually short, with most people seeing improvement in their vision within one to two days after the procedure. Recovery time for PRK is usually longer, as it can take up to one month for vision to fully improve and stabilize.
The choice between Lasik and PRK will depend on several factors, such as the shape and thickness of the cornea, the person's medical history, and the severity of the refractive error. It's important to consult with your eye doctor to determine which procedure is best suited for you.
