I assume mild steel handles, and H13 for the tools. I know that's how I've made several of mine.
Another great video, simple and too the point .

Thanks, forget the curved chisel part, I just wanted to show that approach to tooling. I tried solid H13 tooling, but it destroys the hammer dies. Mild steel for the impact area has worked well so far.

Did you make that kiss block and hardy attachment for your power hammer? That thing looks super useful.

Yessir, most of the tooling in the shop I made.

What rod are you welding the H13 with? Absolutely spectacular videos.

Black Bear Forge Thanks! I've had good luck with 7018 rods after preheating the h13. I experimented with solid h13 tools, but they were way too hard on the power hammer dies. Handles are mild steel.

how do you manage to get any work done in a shop so clean?

I find that I am more calm, working in a clean/organized shop.

I imagine that this is how a forging shop would look inside a fire station. :D

What grade of steel are you using? Also, why don't you have a fire brick on the opening of your forge?

Hello, mild steel for the handle and h13 for the chisel part. I block up the other end with firebrick and the front off camera.

Hello, that's the plan, but I've been tied up building a new shop this year. After getting set up, I will be tool building for sure. Check back on this channel/website by the end of summer 2018.

Hello, future projects are on hold until my shop is built. I'll be back up and running hopefully by summer 2018.

I must not know much about blacksmithing, I'm not entirely sure I know how these tools are used. I guess I just need to wait and see :)

Hi, I wanted to show that approach to tooling, being a hard steel welded onto a mild steel handle/striking surface. And yes, I will use these in a future video.
