I topped my curry tree a couple weeks back just as you suggested. It seems to be slow to respond, but I see some new growth forming at the nodes. Will fertilize with fish fertilizer soon.
I also tried planting a couple of the cuttings I took off. I think they are rooting as I see new growth at the nodes. Fingers crossed!! Hoping for lots of leaves this summer :)
My plant has always been tall, seems to refuse to grow bushy

Great to hear that it is growing nicely. It needs a lot of courage to cut a plant that is finely growing. For the sake of good growth, you took the step. Amazing and don't forget to share a pic of it once fully grown, everyone will be motivated.😊

New growth 2 months after hard prune. I believe mine is the dwarf variety so it is pretty slow growing. I now have two main stems for the first time! I think I will pinch the tips of the two main stems in a few weeks and see if I can get some more off shoots to grow in the late summer.
I think when I repot the plant in the spring I will take some time to break up the root ball and maybe even prune the roots a bit. I think I will also amend the soil to help it drain more. It seems like my soil remains moist for too long. I can easily go two to three weeks after watering before the soil dries enough to water again. I have really been fighting the urge to over water.

My curry plant was having stunted growth when I first brought it home. After observing it for 6 months, I cut it leaving 1 feet of trunk. Only one shoot came out and it went crooked. Again it stopped growing. After another 3 months, again another crooked growth started. Finally I have left 2 inches of thick trunk and chopped the rest. Got 4 pieces of trunk and planted them in a basket with porous soil. I hope that I get 4 new plants along with new growth on old one. I can see few growth on all the cuttings as well as on the stump.

Thank you very much for a very useful presentation explaining many aspects of successful growth and propagation of curry leaf plants. It would be very helpful if you can adjust the audio volume of your commentary to a steady, even level (perhaps by ensuring that you try to keep the same direct distance to the recording microphone) and also greatly suppress the background music level. That would make the video easier for many more people to fully understand. Also, it would be useful to know what the day and night time temperatures in the area that you are growing them. Thank you!

    1) Can you share link for Mustard Cake Liquid fertilizer.
    2) Can i use Mustard cake powder. How to use powder. Do i need to soak it in water for some days and then use. Or just mix in water and use immediately. Or can i add power directly to the soil of the the curry leaf plant pot. Also let me know hoe much quantity to be added in how much water. Or if adding directly to the pot then how much quantity to add in the pot.
    3) You said in the video to add Mustard Cake Liquid fertilizer and Vermicompost after 15 days. So we can add both thing at the same time Or on different days.

Inspect your plant closely. I am sure it is a house of some insets now. They are sucking the juice from the leaves and stems. Due to that leaves are curled down and look deformed in shape. Spray neem oil on your plant.

Leave 2 inches of trunk from the ground and cut the rest. Trimming the plant twice a year ensures better growth hormone production in plants. It's applicable to almost every plant.
You can repot the plant too as sometimes fungal infection in the roots stop the plant from growing.

The Growth of plant and maintenance varies from place to place. This is India, I suggest based on the climate. But I have no clue about the climate of your place so I will suggest you based on the temperature. 18-25 degrees Celsius temperature is good for pruning. You can use any dry compost. Pruning your plant depends on the weather condition in your area. Wait if the climate is hot. You may do it in the monsoon season.

It depends on the size of your plant. Choose a small pot if it is small. Eventually, it will grow big and then you can go for bigger pot.

This plant needs particular soil and temperature to give strong fragrance. I too have noticed the difference of the same curry plant grown in different parts of India. In Jharkhand too, this plant has very strong fragrance but in Delhi and it's surrounding districts it's fragrance is very low. You need warm to hot climate as in South India and at least 4 hours of sunlight else it won't be able to generate required fragrance.

  • @JS-gv7pu

Hi just have a question. My curry leaf plant got under heavy infestation of white mealy bugs all over the stem and leaves. Tried soap and oil water to combat it, but i think i spotted it too late. Trimmed of all the leaves and cleaned off all mealy bugs, threw away some of the top soil. Was hoping for my plant to revive itself, it did it once before. Continued to water it, to my surprise the following week a new seedling of curry leaf was growing from right near the old plants stem. I never planted any seedlings in the soil. Is this a natural phenomenon, i guess the plant revitalized itself since it could revive the old plant ?

    • @eURBANORGANICGARDEN
      @eURBANORGANICGARDEN  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That new plant grew up from the root of the mother plant that you have. My plant has one too. It happens with many, including the curry plant. Congrats, now you have two plants. Separate the new plant and give it a different room to grow once the baby plant becomes 5-6 inches tall.
