As you might guess, I use what works for me. I'm not ready to be influenced by vendors although they can certainly benefit if their product is really working for me.
Great video about techniques David. I see most of the fish you caught were likely two year old fish and 10 pounds or less. . Have there been any large salmon this year? We are having a banner season down here in California out of the Golden Gate with most fish caught being 15 to 25 pounds.
Edward, I've heard of some big fish but we've boated mostly smaller fish. I haven't made as many trips this season so it's just a small sampling. Good to hear that you guys are getting bigger fish. The ocean conditions are quite concerning and we had an emergency closure last week. The season was drastically cut back to begin with.
If your lines are at a 45 degree angle you can multiply your line counter number by .7 to get an estimate of depth. So, if you let out 40 feet of line and multiply it by 0.7 you have 24 feet from the rod tip. You still need to account for the distance that your rod tip is above the water. This is simply an estimate that I use.

I was curious which 360 flasher releases you've used and if you have found one you like over the others? I know you have put some miles on these 360s so I trust your opinion. Thanks! I've only tried the Simon release. The magnet picks up metal fragments on the bottom so you have to clean it once in a while but other than that, it seems to perform. The Underdog boat, Mike, told me the other day that he wants to give me some other product to test out. Once that happens, I'll be able to tell you which one I like best.
What rods are you using to handle 16 ounces? I broke a lamiglas using 12 ounces out here in Hammond for silvers lifting a fish into the net. I’m using a 15-30 lb redline but it’s only rated for 6 ounces.
Jayson, I'm using pretty standard salmon rods. My favorite is my Shimano Clarus. I believe it's a 15-30 lb, heavy, with moderate action. You rod should fish fine with 16 oz if it's rated heavy. It's possible that your rod was defective or had a weak spot.

Mario, there's always bank fishing on the Sandy and Clack. Don't give up, just use what you have and go get em'. I put my time in on the bank just like everybody else.
At that time I was using a barrel swivel sliding on the main line. More recently I've been using a fixed dropper for 360 flasher fishing. I use two bead chains connected with a split ring. I attach a duoclip to the split ring. This helps to reduce the "spinning" of my mainline which results in twisted line.

Hello David Pile, when you are marking fish lets say at about 25-30 feet deep on the screen, with 16oz weight, how much line do you typically let out?

James, it probably doesn't matter too much as far as the fish is concerned but it's just one more item that can pick up grass or debris.

Andrew, I think a spinner with a hoochie skirt will work great but I haven't tried that out lately. Give it a shot and tell me how much success you have.
