Different cultures in the world of the Zelda series have different designs, the Hylians seem to have mostly medieval influence, the Zonais seem to have a bit of a Mesoamerican influence, the rito gets some native american too and the gerudo middle-eastern.

I definitely have a lot of relatively mindless fun with sandbox-y games like BOTW & Elden Ring, but I still believe strongly that The Witcher 3 is far and away the BEST Open World Game of all time. For 1 simple reason, context & writing. I actually CARED about what I was doing at almost ALL times, the insane amount of high caliber, film/tv/literature level writing and character work in that game completely wipes the floor with anything that any other open world game has done. The side quests for the most part in that game weren't just shit you did for loot, but they were a collection of wonderful little vignettes that when put together ultimately painted a picture of a bleak, brutal, mysterious and utterly fascinating fantasy world that you felt completely immersed in. I guess it just comes down to whether you're a child at heart who wants to play in a sandbox, or someone who looks at gaming as more of an artistic/storytelling medium, but for me... the context, writing & voice acting quality of a game like The Witcher 3 (or even some Bioware games like Dragon Age Origins or ME2) completely trumps and annihilates all the endless goofy physics ingenuity of Minecraft or Tears Of The Kingdom, or even the faceless, story-less exploration of pretty vistas like in Elden Ring or BOTW (also lore isn't compelling story so fuck off with that argument lol).
People always talk about the silly player driven dynamic things they can do in games like RDR2, GTA V, BOTW, SKYRIM, etc.. etc.. For me, it's always a question of WHY the fuck am I doing this? Does it fit the world, the story, the characters, do I feel compelled to learn more about things? RDR2 is a good example of WHY limitations SHOULD exist. RDR2's free roam & main story are COMPLETELY & UTTERLY at odds, and going off playing as a serial killing fucking lunatic because you CAN simply ruins the story & the immersion. In Witcher 3 I didn't give a single shit that I couldn't just rob and kill random people, cause Geralt would never do that and I'm role playing a compelling character. I think the Rockstar formula in particular feels incredibly at odds with itself, at least games like BOTW & Elden Ring that barely have any story to begin with don't break immersion when you go around doing weird shit for 20 hrs ignoring the main path
I didn’t play Witcher 3 so I can’t say much in regards to your statement, but there are many other games that treat video games as an artistic medium better than the Witcher, it’s not a huge open world but Pathologic is extremely well written, and really puts you in that world

There are a few points I can agree with here on how they definitely repeat the same points over and over again like I know I just saw it happen. Or how the depths are kinda barren. Just kinda… lil bit ya know there was still plenty to do plenty of collectibles and yoga hideouts and mines. I feel like this game is one where you don’t play it all in one sitting. I know that’s kinda impossible but if you try to get through the game as fast as possible you won’t really enjoy it. The more I thought about it. It’s more of a game that you’ll play over the next year. I like to think that’s why they repeat everything. I’ve dumped close to 150 hours into this game already but its starting to feel like a chore to get everything done. I’m a completionist. There just so much to do I’m never gonna feel satisfied until it’s done. But if I put those feels beside me I find this an amazing game. Too many options to do anything you want. Let’s the creativity to flow. You can abuse a mechanic if you want to but that’s up to you. It’s super easy to do and make sure so why wouldn’t you. You also figured this out by someone telling you. If you didn’t know about the air bike what would you have done? That’s the fun. Now about the schizo comments on the woke bs I kinda find that a lil wack. Like Sidon has been your best friend the entirety of botw and totk. They point this out so many times. He has a fiance. Getting hand mogged too? Just a lil sus. It felt a lil out of place in a video talking about why this game isn’t a masterpiece ya know. Putting the rings on? It’s just the infinity gauntlet not you marrying a bird child. Paya on the other hand with tauro though is just reaching though. She literally is just talking to the top researcher in Kakariko about the ring ruins as that’s her job as chief. But other than that I still find this an amazing game. It’s not all high impact action. It’s just a better version of botw which I’m here for. This makes botw looks like a tech demo
I spent 100 hours in it. Probably a month of 4 hours a night. I do think it's too long but I was pretty much OP by the end. I ended with every weapon I was saving unused and tons of resources that I never touched. I loved the ending but the structure of the whole thing was very similar to BOTW. I did not like the depths. I found that area just as tedious as he did. He doesn't mention that powering that bike requires spending awhile down there or having a lot of large energy cells.
I think he is reading too much into it but sideon getting down on one knee holding links hand like that does look like he's trying to purpose to man and he's basically the only one that does it far as I know. Voiced characters, anime-esque aesthetics, breakable weapons (as the standard), androgynous Link, a magical tablet eerily reminiscent of real-life computer tablets, inventory option-bloat (along with unnecessary HUD clutter), open world for the sake of open world... Nintendo doesn't realize that too much is too much; people love to defecate on _The Adventure of Link_ because of its difficulty, but it managed to strike a nice balance between details of the world and gameplay despite its limitations. Here's to hoping that this franchise is reset back to its roots.

Super late to this one but for anyone still scowering these comments who cares, I wanted to explain the appeal of synths channel. In a sea of video reviews that all feel like they're being read from the same script, these videos let the critique overshadow the positives as opposed to having the negatives be overshadowed completely by praise. As for the schizo angle these videos sometimes take, I view this as another aspect of these reviews that adds to the entertainment value and sets them apart. I played the game and personally never noticed any of the satanic or grooming stuff he pointed out (and still don't). It may be a foreign concept to some twitter users, but I don't need the media I enjoy to align perfectly with my beliefs. Synths perspective, no matter how unhinged, is one I'm growing increasingly more appreciative of. The embrace of synths channel has less to do with the embrace of his ideas but more to do with the rejection of the norm or the echo chamber or whatever you wanna call it. I cant speak for everyone tho.

Agreed. When I got to the Rito dungeon and flipped the switches to fight the boss within like ten minutes of arriving there, I was genuinely confused. This is - by far - the most simplistic “dungeon design” I’ve ever seen in a Zelda game. It makes the divine beasts looks like the Water Temple from OoT.
I found some of the big open dungeons like the Gerudo and Goron ones a bit more obtuse. I was at a loss as to some of the "intended methods" of going about some of the areas. The shrines actually do a way better job of pointing you in the right direction on puzzles and designs.
Well Queen Gibdo was not the only Boss were you have multiple ways to approach. I didn't shoot a single arrow at the Boss of the Wind Temple. You can just break these crystal dome things by sky diving through them.

To be fair, I "Stealth Archer" in every single game where it is a possibility. I've done the Dark Souls trilogy and Elden Ring as Stealth Archer (sort of). I played Breath of the Wild as a Stealth Archer, courtesy of my Zelda amiibo and a lot of time spent farming Twilight Bows. There is a special kind of awkwardness that comes from continuing to do the same thing you've always done, except suddenly everyone else is doing it and accusing you of being a bandwagon jumper. Like dude, it was my wagon before it was a bandwagon and I never left!
I thought most people did... It's quite literally known for its adventure stories. Combat and gameplay is simply your tools to progress in that story. There's not much of a point in playing a Zelda game if you're not interested in the story. It's like normies who go into RPGs and refuse to read anything, listen to anything, and act like it's an FPS... it's moronic.
The worst part of this game is that it almost erases botw. Everything is gone and no one cares. Not even Zelda or Link care about anything. Im fine with a reused map but why even have the depths? time travel in a long running series is never a good idea, especially if this results in a retcon of what is already established story. There are exceprtions to this, but that's if the universe is built on time travel like Dr Who or Trek which has Time travel rules built into it. I don't know much about Zelda though.

Yeah I feel the same. The véhicule mechanic can be interesting when solving a environmental puzzle, otherwise I prefer using a horse or just walking around.
Hey I'm the same! I found that if you kinda follow the paths the designers made through the world, it feels much more like old zelda. I found if I flew around all the time then I missed out on a lot of cool little set pieces. Not saying it's the "Right" way to do it, but I find it more fun. And I think a lot of people don't really realize how different the game feels if you do that.
I've been playing another open world game (Skyrim) with a pataglider mod, and it comes with basically infinite Ravioli's Gale that can even be used in midair. Open world loses so much of what makes it good as soon as you can too easily just fly from start to finish and bypass the... open world. I still enjoyed riding my horse around in BotW instead of teleporting, even in the late game. Then again, I know I'm a bit weird. I used to call myself The Walkabout Wizard in MMOs, because I set my character to walk speed and traveled with the power of my boots
I just realized that the starfield gun in the beginning playing in the background was a bethesda reskin of the institute rifle . This is going to be a reskin of fallout 4 with extra steps

Are you serious?? TP is one of the easiest Zelda games ever. The enemies only do one strike and if it gets blocked, they patiently wait for you to end them. The bosses are even easier. God, there's a boss that doesn't even harm you... At all. At least Skyward Sword's villains and bosses felt more alive.

Yes, the sword moves you learn are cool, but you can go all the way through the game's story without using them because almost every enemy can be killed just by mindless slashing. IMO, Skyward Sword is the one game where the combat feels good (if you're fine with the motion controls)

This part of the video got me good, it's so funny. It's genuinely baffling if that's a real take that someone can have about this game. I honestly just wish they made the dungeons more like normal 3D Zelda dungeons. Everything else is fine. Also I wish they used the sky a bit more like the depths.
Hardware limitations, making it as big as the depths would make the game laggy to no end because the sky is loaded in at the same time as the over world, the depths aren’t constantly loaded in unless you’re down there where the over world and sky aren’t loaded in

It's unreasonable to make a critique on something that is very well not within the limitations of the hardware and the developers. As is, the game experience with the sky islands is definitely better than just having the base land of Hyrule from BOTW. You do bring up a good point though and it's not something that a lot of people consider when factoring in their hopes and dreams for a game they like. People like to pipe dream about a game's features and set themselves up for disappointment when in the end, the game doesn't meet their incredibly reaching standards.

The funniest part is even accounting real word race “science” hyrule a races are very realistic. The darker skinned npcs come from Faron, a sun tropical rainforest, and gerudo desert, both places where people in our world would have darker skin.

When did they change the designs of Zelda games? They look like they are all wearing some weird african tribal/aztec outfits. I thought Zelda was basically western fantasy, they are Elves and he is wearing a green cap...
Different cultures in the world of the Zelda series have different designs, the Hylians seem to have mostly medieval influence, the Zonais seem to have a bit of a Mesoamerican influence, the rito gets some native american too and the gerudo middle-eastern.

I definitely have a lot of relatively mindless fun with sandbox-y games like BOTW & Elden Ring, but I still believe strongly that The Witcher 3 is far and away the BEST Open World Game of all time. For 1 simple reason, context & writing. I actually CARED about what I was doing at almost ALL times, the insane amount of high caliber, film/tv/literature level writing and character work in that game completely wipes the floor with anything that any other open world game has done. The side quests for the most part in that game weren't just shit you did for loot, but they were a collection of wonderful little vignettes that when put together ultimately painted a picture of a bleak, brutal, mysterious and utterly fascinating fantasy world that you felt completely immersed in. I guess it just comes down to whether you're a child at heart who wants to play in a sandbox, or someone who looks at gaming as more of an artistic/storytelling medium, but for me... the context, writing & voice acting quality of a game like The Witcher 3 (or even some Bioware games like Dragon Age Origins or ME2) completely trumps and annihilates all the endless goofy physics ingenuity of Minecraft or Tears Of The Kingdom, or even the faceless, story-less exploration of pretty vistas like in Elden Ring or BOTW (also lore isn't compelling story so fuck off with that argument lol).
People always talk about the silly player driven dynamic things they can do in games like RDR2, GTA V, BOTW, SKYRIM, etc.. etc.. For me, it's always a question of WHY the fuck am I doing this? Does it fit the world, the story, the characters, do I feel compelled to learn more about things? RDR2 is a good example of WHY limitations SHOULD exist. RDR2's free roam & main story are COMPLETELY & UTTERLY at odds, and going off playing as a serial killing fucking lunatic because you CAN simply ruins the story & the immersion. In Witcher 3 I didn't give a single shit that I couldn't just rob and kill random people, cause Geralt would never do that and I'm role playing a compelling character. I think the Rockstar formula in particular feels incredibly at odds with itself, at least games like BOTW & Elden Ring that barely have any story to begin with don't break immersion when you go around doing weird shit for 20 hrs ignoring the main path
I didn’t play Witcher 3 so I can’t say much in regards to your statement, but there are many other games that treat video games as an artistic medium better than the Witcher, it’s not a huge open world but Pathologic is extremely well written, and really puts you in that world

There are a few points I can agree with here on how they definitely repeat the same points over and over again like I know I just saw it happen. Or how the depths are kinda barren. Just kinda… lil bit ya know there was still plenty to do plenty of collectibles and yoga hideouts and mines.
I feel like this game is one where you don’t play it all in one sitting. I know that’s kinda impossible but if you try to get through the game as fast as possible you won’t really enjoy it. The more I thought about it. It’s more of a game that you’ll play over the next year. I like to think that’s why they repeat everything. I’ve dumped close to 150 hours into this game already but its starting to feel like a chore to get everything done. I’m a completionist. There just so much to do I’m never gonna feel satisfied until it’s done. But if I put those feels beside me I find this an amazing game. Too many options to do anything you want. Let’s the creativity to flow. You can abuse a mechanic if you want to but that’s up to you. It’s super easy to do and make sure so why wouldn’t you. You also figured this out by someone telling you. If you didn’t know about the air bike what would you have done? That’s the fun.
Now about the schizo comments on the woke bs I kinda find that a lil wack. Like Sidon has been your best friend the entirety of botw and totk. They point this out so many times. He has a fiance. Getting hand mogged too? Just a lil sus. It felt a lil out of place in a video talking about why this game isn’t a masterpiece ya know. Putting the rings on? It’s just the infinity gauntlet not you marrying a bird child. Paya on the other hand with tauro though is just reaching though. She literally is just talking to the top researcher in Kakariko about the ring ruins as that’s her job as chief.
But other than that I still find this an amazing game. It’s not all high impact action. It’s just a better version of botw which I’m here for. This makes botw looks like a tech demo
I spent 100 hours in it. Probably a month of 4 hours a night. I do think it's too long but I was pretty much OP by the end. I ended with every weapon I was saving unused and tons of resources that I never touched. I loved the ending but the structure of the whole thing was very similar to BOTW. I did not like the depths. I found that area just as tedious as he did. He doesn't mention that powering that bike requires spending awhile down there or having a lot of large energy cells.

Voiced characters, anime-esque aesthetics, breakable weapons (as the standard), androgynous Link, a magical tablet eerily reminiscent of real-life computer tablets, inventory option-bloat (along with unnecessary HUD clutter), open world for the sake of open world...
Nintendo doesn't realize that too much is too much; people love to defecate on _The Adventure of Link_ because of its difficulty, but it managed to strike a nice balance between details of the world and gameplay despite its limitations. Here's to hoping that this franchise is reset back to its roots.

Super late to this one but for anyone still scowering these comments who cares, I wanted to explain the appeal of synths channel. In a sea of video reviews that all feel like they're being read from the same script, these videos let the critique overshadow the positives as opposed to having the negatives be overshadowed completely by praise. As for the schizo angle these videos sometimes take, I view this as another aspect of these reviews that adds to the entertainment value and sets them apart. I played the game and personally never noticed any of the satanic or grooming stuff he pointed out (and still don't). It may be a foreign concept to some twitter users, but I don't need the media I enjoy to align perfectly with my beliefs. Synths perspective, no matter how unhinged, is one I'm growing increasingly more appreciative of.
The embrace of synths channel has less to do with the embrace of his ideas but more to do with the rejection of the norm or the echo chamber or whatever you wanna call it. I cant speak for everyone tho.

Agreed. When I got to the Rito dungeon and flipped the switches to fight the boss within like ten minutes of arriving there, I was genuinely confused.
This is - by far - the most simplistic “dungeon design” I’ve ever seen in a Zelda game. It makes the divine beasts looks like the Water Temple from OoT.
I found some of the big open dungeons like the Gerudo and Goron ones a bit more obtuse. I was at a loss as to some of the "intended methods" of going about some of the areas. The shrines actually do a way better job of pointing you in the right direction on puzzles and designs.

To be fair, I "Stealth Archer" in every single game where it is a possibility. I've done the Dark Souls trilogy and Elden Ring as Stealth Archer (sort of). I played Breath of the Wild as a Stealth Archer, courtesy of my Zelda amiibo and a lot of time spent farming Twilight Bows. There is a special kind of awkwardness that comes from continuing to do the same thing you've always done, except suddenly everyone else is doing it and accusing you of being a bandwagon jumper. The worst part of this game is that it almost erases botw. Everything is gone and no one cares. Not even Zelda or Link care about anything. Im fine with a reused map but why even have the depths? The timeline thing with botw is really bugging me the more i think about it.
time travel in a long running series is never a good idea, especially if this results in a retcon of what is already established story.
There are exceprtions to this, but that's if the universe is built on time travel like Dr Who or Trek which has Time travel rules built into it. I don't know much about Zelda though.

Yeah I feel the same. The véhicule mechanic can be interesting when solving a environmental puzzle, otherwise I prefer using a horse or just walking around.
Hey I'm the same! I found that if you kinda follow the paths the designers made through the world, it feels much more like old zelda. I found if I flew around all the time then I missed out on a lot of cool little set pieces. Not saying it's the "Right" way to do it, but I find it more fun. And I think a lot of people don't really realize how different the game feels if you do that.
I've been playing another open world game (Skyrim) with a pataglider mod, and it comes with basically infinite Ravioli's Gale that can even be used in midair. Open world loses so much of what makes it good as soon as you can too easily just fly from start to finish and bypass the... open world. I still enjoyed riding my horse around in BotW instead of teleporting, even in the late game. Then again, I know I'm a bit weird. I used to call myself The Walkabout Wizard in MMOs, because I set my character to walk speed and traveled with the power of my boots

Twilight Princess had the best combat. Too bad they nerfed the combat when Skyward Sword came out. I miss the backslice move.

Are you serious?? TP is one of the easiest Zelda games ever. The enemies only do one strike and if it gets blocked, they patiently wait for you to end them. The bosses are even easier. God, there's a boss that doesn't even harm you... At all. At least Skyward Sword's villains and bosses felt more alive.

Yes, the sword moves you learn are cool, but you can go all the way through the game's story without using them because almost every enemy can be killed just by mindless slashing. IMO, Skyward Sword is the one game where the combat feels good (if you're fine with the motion controls)

I honestly just wish they made the dungeons more like normal 3D Zelda dungeons. Everything else is fine. Also I wish they used the sky a bit more like the depths.
Hardware limitations, making it as big as the depths would make the game laggy to no end because the sky is loaded in at the same time as the over world, the depths aren’t constantly loaded in unless you’re down there where the over world and sky aren’t loaded in
@@themaskedspirit It is nonetheless a critique of the game. I find the sky islands a bit sparse as well. If the game had no physical limitations, I'm sure that having a more expanded map would make the experience of exploring even better.
@@abby_babber why make a critique of a game that can’t be made into a reality at all, if they make the sky expansive like the depths there would be the critique of lag, the sky islands were already huge as is too, with sky dungeons spanning over 2000 in height with enemies, puzzles and extra goodies to be found

It's unreasonable to make a critique on something that is very well not within the limitations of the hardware and the developers. As is, the game experience with the sky islands is definitely better than just having the base land of Hyrule from BOTW. You do bring up a good point though and it's not something that a lot of people consider when factoring in their hopes and dreams for a game they like. People like to pipe dream about a game's features and set themselves up for disappointment when in the end, the game doesn't meet their incredibly reaching standards.
