Our country is a melting pot of races (there are Chinese, Spanish, Americans, etc) due to our history where other countries colonized us. I am Filipino and very light skinned since I have Spanish and German ancestry. I do not think Filipinos mean to discriminate or belittle you when they call you "tisoy". As someone who is Fil-Am but who looks chinito and still felt like a foreigner when I visited PI, this song really hits different for me. I relate so hard. So happy to have discovered this song!!

Try being a Fil-Am (half white) at 18 y/o going to college for 5 years studying, learning Tagalog and Kapampangan (my regional dialect), and still put up with the "isip bata (immature) crab mentality." Also that when you're trying your best to learn your language and heritage...then you're told that your accent is so bad and just to stick speaking English. Discrimination is for real. As someone who is Fil-Am but who looks chinito and still felt like a foreigner when I visited PI, this song really hits different for me. I relate so hard. So happy to have discovered this song!!

Try being a Fil-Am (half white) at 18 y/o going to college for 5 years studying, learning Tagalog and Kapampangan (my regional dialect), and still put up with the "isip bata (immature) crab mentality." You're bullied for looking more like a "Mexican or Puerto Rican" and be told you don't belong here. Also that when you're trying your best to learn your language and heritage...then you're told that your accent is so bad and just to stick speaking English. Discrimination is for real. I'm a better man today due to those experiences. My wife in the end taught me how to accept my identity as a Filipino no matter what anyone else said and I moved on from that. When I heard EZ Mil spit, it brought back so many emotions such as: happy, proud, passion, pain, annoyed, and relief (because his message is for us to stop this discrimination and that we should become one as Filipino people even if you don't have a drop of Filipino blood. As long as you accept, love, and respect the culture). Then you're good! Thank you for the reaction! #PinoyPride

EZ was trying to tell his childhood story through this song. There was a part that he pointed out him being discriminated in his own land but despite of that, he is always proud of being a Filipino regardless of all the bad things he encountered. But most of the song is basically telling his experiences growing up and being proud of the place he grew up which is in Olongapo 2200-zipcode.
