No creative minds such is Bathory; Hellhammer/ Celtic Frost; and even the literal title of Venom’s 3rd album titled “Black Metal”@ 1982 and this genre’s possibly never going to be invented at all, because without it ( which is a sum of all those parts) We cannot honestly say for certain what would’ve ever become that stylish music as put together by the true artists whose work unbeknownst to only themselves was supposed to go onto creating music from such places in Nordic mythology influencing Count Grishnak to eat a piece of his friend Dead’s brain; as he crawled through his window and saw the festering corpse lying on the couch. Then scooping up a little bit of brain matter to put it inside of his own locket possibly for later on? This album paints a horrific picture of the horrors of war and replicates the feelings of anger, fear, and sorrow. It fills me with a deep melancholy, but also with motivation. I can just imagine seeing mutilated corpses falling down into the dirt and soiling the earth with streams of crimson. Among the corpses of young soldiers, with bloodstained uniforms, visible wounds made by bullets and bayonets, the soldier's faces are permanently painted with terrifying expressions of horror. Definitely one of my favorite BM releases in recent memory. One of the best USBM releases of all time.

Agreed. Imo the solos really add character, which is unusual, because ive never usually liked solos in metal, but theyre so well played here that it makes it gut wrenching.
Still listening to it, 4 years later... What is amzing with Minenwerfer is both the beautiful music and the very special topic of WWI, but not focused on the trench war. In France, we mainly consider Verdun and the Poilus, but WWI was far larger than that.
How the fuck did I not hear about this earlier?! This is unbelievable. Black metal with solos needs to come back more. The entire aesthetic of this from art, to mood to music has blown me away.
After this war and the annexation of the south tyrol many men gouged their eyes out or cut a hand off just to escape further military responsibilities in new wars, so bleak was this war... Thats what my great grandfather told my father. Never again shall wars be fought between brothers & neighbors.

I am a Pole living in the western part of Poland. My great great grandfather was a soldier in German Army. He haven't got a choise, he couldn't stay at home with his wife and rest of the family. I know that my ancestor fought at Verdun. And survived this hell. Men which fought in even not his war. And I've got only one message for all of you. NEVER AGAIN... peace ✌
I listened to this in memory of my great-grandfather who fought on Isonzo, Piave and Vittorio Veneto. A single Italian bullet or stray shrapnel from exploding shell would've erased me and my forebears from existence, forever. I'm glad that he came back home alive from a 3 year long hell on Earth and 5 year long post-war captivity.
my great-grandfather was one of the first to be sent to France when the war broke out, even made it through the Somme alive. He was never the same after it though, lost a lot of friends and saw some horrible shit.
To think how many millions of people never existed because of the wars makes me always extremely sad...even if their ancestors had sometimes been killed for a just cause like in national liberation, revolutions or some civil wars...

My grandfather, born in 1893, took part in some of the bloodiest battles on the Western Front before joining the French Air Force in 1917 and fighting alongside the US forces. He was rewarded for several acts of bravery (saved a comrade under enemy fire, first soldier to reach the enemy lines, fought alone against six German fighters in his plane...). During WWII he joined the French Resistance and died of influenza in the 70s not without having kept after-effects after having survived the crah of his plane. He never talked about what he had done, I discovered his past with my father many years later. Every time I listen to this album I think of him and the millions of others who sacrificed their youth whatever their side.
My great grandfather served in WWII. One day when it was his turn to drive the platoon he was cleaning his rifle and his best friend Maynard offered to drive the platoon instead. They ran over a mine or got shot by a rocket can’t remember been awhile since I’ve read his journals. Anyways, thank you Maynard for unknowingly sacrificing your life for my grandfathers. Black metal fits the mood of the Great War so good. It captures the rotten smell of death in trenches, the sheer futility and pointlessness of another charge at enemy trench, the tragedy of the war.
@XEREBRL 100%. Black metal is the antithesis of what we're brainwashed to believe. It's real; violent and beautiful. Just as nature intended. When you fight nature you lose. Accept it and embrace it.

This is the most beautiful side of Black Metal. It shows that this genre has so much more to offer than non-stop blastbeats, tremolo picking the same riff for 7 minutes and dull satanism for rebellious teenagers (nothing against elaborated satanism though!). And it fits the theme of war perfectly: there's no honour and glory in war, only pain, death and misery. This album depicts the brutal truth through history, it's just the right way to deal with this subject, and it totally gets to me. Thank you for sharing this piece of art!
Я послушал несколько альбомов на этом канале, и все они подходят в качестве фона для какого-то произвольного занятия. Этот же альбом можно слушать отдельно как произведение искусства. Обязательно вернусь к нему снова. Не зря он набрал столько просмотров.
Well played, atmospheres, I like it! Small piece of history: I'm Italian (from Roma), the father of my grandfather was in Usa and he came back to fight the great war... he probably dies, his body was never found, he has no grave...
Dragging the dead through mountain passes is my favorite. The opening gives me feelings of desperation and fear. Like the Alps are towering over you like giant gravestones
This is great! So much "atmospheric black metal" just sounds like musical wallpaper. Background music. This is music that's meant to be actively listened to. Really dig it.
What is funny is they are more of a war metal band, listen to previous albums and even the members names make it obvious. Part of what I think makes this so awesome.
Do you really think atmospheric black metal requires more technicality in order to be good, or even to be actively listened to? Its artistic value lies in its immersion: the thickness of its atmospheres; the depths of its soundscapes which each note, chord progression, guitar layer, the fuzz and reverb, etc. all work together in order to meticulously craft with a sort of aural paintbrush. The slow, droning kind of atmoblack you allude to is meant to open a portal to other worlds, surrealist planes… Minenwerfer-which definitely isn’t war metal-is great in its own way, but I still think bands and projects like Paysage d’Hiver, Darkspace, The Ruins of Beverast, Trist (the German one), Arkhtinn, Gnaw Their Tongues, and so on would wipe the floor with it. Ambient and atmospheric black metal are vast, vast subgenres and-at least in my book-usually the pinnacle of the genre.
im not ashamed to say that there were times during my first time listenig to this through headphones that i genuinely wept. THIS is what black metal should be, true, honest and pure. All you Gahl fans and "satanists" take note. Beautiful, so horrific yet so beautiful. This transcends metal to become a true monolithic artistic statement.
I mean there's way better stuff that's not so overproduced, but i get what you mean, this does have the spirit of black metal. I feel it's more like pagan metal tho, reminds me of Moonsorrow, so if you like this you should definitely listen to the old moonsorrow albums (kivenkantaja)
I'm not familiar with a lot of black metal bands but this came up in my feed yesterday and I thought, why not hit play? And I'm glad I did, what a masterpiece, great songwriting and performances, wow! Will be buying this on bandcamp at least.
I could never relate to the horrors of this conflict specifically, but I can relate to the wordless emotions felt as an infantryman - the grim reality of the profession and the celebration of militarism and comradeship more than anything. This album brought me to tears and came at a time that I really needed it in my life.

I’ll usually throw on the Audible @ versed Big Book Of Alcoholics Anonymous, but to each their own I guess. No Viking ancestors were around to help burn down the churches of an organized religion set forth by the Christian faith which was even more heinously known for their violence against those who had not conformed in union with them or even what they were worshiping in those eras so many times prior to their initial arrival on the shores of their newfound homeland. ❤ Sincerely, DJP Anal Cunt; Postmortem and Kilslug Sony; Earache 🇬🇧 Columbia and TAANG!! Alone
In Silence I hunt
Holding my breath
Concealed I am death
Eyes of an eagle
Searching for prey
Through sights of iron
Hidden in grey
Through forests and fog
The smoke and the smog
A single shot
From your blind spot
All becomes quiet
Except a cold breeze
A hunter in silence
Hidden among the trees
Nothing but prey in my sights
A tracker at night
Haunting the cliffs
Exploiting weaknesses
Encamped in mist
Saluting your officers
Simplifies my job
Take aim with my rifle
His life I will rob
A mountian of fire
I take my revenge
Chamber a round
And look through the lens
My homeland invaded
By foreign empires
A silent assassin
Behind the barbed wire
A vanguard sharpshooter
With nothing to lose
I collect your medals
Souvenirs I choose
Cloaked in silence
A hunter's gaze
Cloaked in silence
A sniper's last days
Cloaked in silence
Never a sound
Cloaked in silence
Welcome to the hunting ground
Searching for glory
As blood covers the snow
The peaks and praries
Of my alpine home
Searching for glory

This album paints a horrific picture of the horrors of war and replicates the feelings of anger, fear, and sorrow. It fills me with a deep melancholy, but also with motivation. I can just imagine seeing mutilated corpses falling down into the dirt and soiling the earth with streams of crimson. Among the corpses of young soldiers, with bloodstained uniforms, visible wounds made by bullets and bayonets, the soldier's faces are permanently painted with terrifying expressions of horror.

This is the most beautiful side of Black Metal. It shows that this genre has so much more to offer than non-stop blastbeats, tremolo picking the same riff for 7 minutes and dull satanism for rebellious teenagers (nothing against elaborated satanism though!). "just sounds like musical wallpaper. Background music"
and sometimes that's exactly what I want.
The slow, droning kind of atmoblack you allude to is meant to open a portal to other worlds, surrealist planes…
Minenwerfer-which definitely isn’t war metal-is great in its own way, but I still think bands and projects like Paysage d’Hiver, Darkspace, The Ruins of Beverast, Trist (the German one), Arkhtinn, Gnaw Their Tongues, and so on would wipe the floor with it. Ambient and atmospheric black metal are vast, vast subgenres and-at least in my book-usually the pinnacle of the genre.

So I discovered this today. Passionate and continuous. Life is good.
From the start it'd the feeling of something really special and indeed special it's! An absolute masterpiece!
Also I'm a sucker for this kind of vocal!
This intro is insane, love it
The whole album is great, and the last 3 minutes riffs pumps so hard
I love this, but i love music about war and history and such. Im looking to get back into school and pursue a history degree. Im going to go down the rabbit hole and check out more by this band.
Searching for glory
As blood covers the snow
The peaks and praries

Damn. This is one of those images that will stick with me for the rest of my life...
This album is an ongoing delight!I have no idea how powerful the source of inspiration was to keep the desire to repeat every day for a month!
I haven't had music grab me this forcefully in a while. I put it on as background music but in minutes I was sitting still, holding on to every sound. This album is something special.
