This movie, is beautiful written with its fairytale theme and the rule of the castle
It has elements of little red riding hood, wolf and the seven goats, Cinderella, the giant turnip, Shrek.
The rules where the castle visiting time is 9am-5pm. Its hours like that if the children are gone to the castle, their respective parents wont get worried of their absence in their house.
The castle doesn't allow overnight stays because, even though the real world is harse and sometimes we want to escape from it, we unable to abandon these difficulties in life.
The castle is potrays as a towel surrounded by vast sea. The sea may be a metaphor as the sea of time, the childrens are voyagers who meets on the island which is the solitary castle.
The wish and the secret room, maybe symbolise as re-evaluate what is a real desire that even change the nature of fate. This wish Kokoro use it for not her greediness, but to save a friend who needs it but not satisfy their own greed.

she 100% does not remember. none of them remember. they are all just connected by fate. This is implied through the wish when Kokoro says to forgive Aki. Because Aki is the one that is helping them ALL throughout the different timelines. Therefore if Aki disappeared because she had gotten eaten... then none of them would've gotten help and would have been worse off. The only one who didnt get help from Aki was Rion, but he got what he wanted by seeing his sister, the wolf queen.
ps, i also believe when she says the wolf eating aki, i personally believe that she succumbs to her sadness (ie suicide), hence why she was "eaten". Remember they are all lonely and are outcasts in some sort of way.

Rion remembers, and it's heavily implied that Aki does as well when she meets Kokoro again for the first time, we see her giving Kokoro a pretend handshake (similar to how they shook hands before saying goodbye) and says in her head for Kokoro to continue growing.

I disagree. It is heavily implied that Aki remembers. Throughout the movie, Kokoro is told that Aki (she’s called by her last name, having married by that point in 2006, which played a part in hiding her true identity) keeps asking about her and going out of her way to help in making her life better. Even by the end, we get a revisit to the scene at the beginning of the film that revealed that she had whispered “you’ll be okay”.
I was confused by the ending until I started to apply the predestination theory of time-travel. In that it “already happened” kind of thing. Only Aki and one other person would be able to remember by 2006, as they went through it all first. Aki’s experience from the Castle happened in 1991 and for someone else it happened in 1984. Kokoro and Rion would currently be experiencing the Castle events in 2006, due to a time skip over 1999. The other 3 wouldn’t have their experiences until 2013, 2020, and 2027. Due to the 7 years apart rule.
I can’t remember who the 2nd person would be to remember prior to 2006 but I know that Aki would be one. I believe that they knew better than try and change history, which explains why they didn’t get involved with what happened to Kokoro until her experiences at the Castle were complete. And the reason for why everyone seems to be keeping their memories is because of Rion asking his sister for it to be so, which she replied she would see what she could do.
Which brings me to the theory of how this is all happening to begin with. Rion’s sister said in a flashback sequence when she was dying that she wanted to ask God for a wish to live out a fantasy from the Little Red Riding Hood story, highly implying the Lord Almighty gave her the power to live her fantasy and help out 7 individuals, one of which being her brother. Rion’s request for himself and the others to remember may have been granted by God, as a little reward for Kokoro due to her using the wish to instead save her friends as opposed to personal gain.
All that said, that would mean that by 2006, only 4 of the 7 would remember. It won’t be until 2027 that all 7 will have gone through the experience and be able to remember, maybe even be able to fully reunite.

This was beyond emotional and completed unexpected. I tried to watch this a 2nd time, but it was only in theaters for 2 days. 😢 What was GKIDS thinking? This should habe gotten a wider release.

I think it was just a limited, Fathom events type run that happens with a lot of Japanese anime. Book it for one or two nights and then later either bring it back for a normal theatrical run or push for the digital / streaming release.

Some part of me wishes that Aki at some point survived or stopped being abused by her mom's boyfriend or if she exposed him to her.
Also what became of Kokoro's bully, in both the film amd book?

Yeah, the movie left some things unexplained and also unresolved. I gotta give credit for the film focusing mainly on Kokoro as the main protagonist, as everything we see is from her perspective, except for a few small moments. But at the same time, I wish we had gotten more into the other characters and how their lives turned out.
The movie has some twists and turns, a few that I saw coming and a few that I didn’t. Which is why for some of those reveals, it would been better to get more focus on two of the characters like Aki and Rion.

To me the animator and also the original author probably adapted around 80% of the book, due to wanting to give viewers sense of curiosity and thus attempting to solve their inquiry by reading others media, like the novel or manga.
I watched the movie 1st, then I read the entire manga of 5volumes 29 chapters. And surprisingly I get to know the darkness of Subaru, Aki, Wolf Queen, Rion, Masamune and Fuuka. Also in the Manga ,Masamune character is more written, where he interacts more with the others than his anime movie version, he gives mature and encouraging advice, and is more self sacrifice when his friends are in trouble.

@wendyjaehnig4439, if you read the manga, after Aki left the castle on 30thMarch she still doesn't return home, yet as fate is fortunate, she is met with her late-grandmom's best friend, she pseudo adopt Aki at her tutor house and gets Aki mom to release her guardianship and makes Aki to repeat her 3rd year jr highschool. From there Aki future her study to University and she becomes a part time Tutor to young 12y/o Mio Mizumori(Queen Wolf), at her hospital room.

@@tjjordan4207nope you're right, in the manga he is actually the partner of akiko's Mom remarriage. Akiko becomes doesn't want to leave the castle on the last day because, after her grandmother passing (her safe place from the sicko), she had to be constant fear from to her predator stepdad, by hiding in the closet in her house (ironically she hiding in the closet in the solitary castle, means she fear from outside still have some influences to her actions)
