  • It's a good idea to at least wear knee pads whenever you go mountain biking, and always wear a helmet! But we see a lot of riders making protection mistakes when it comes to it, here are a few of the most common we have seen out on the trails 🤘

    I recently had an XC race on a trail that I never rode before. I debated whether to wear knee and elbow pads since the terrain was very rocky and sharp. I'm so glad I did because 1 hour and 15 minutes in, I slid out going 20 mph on a turn. If it weren't for the protection, I most definitely would have needed a hospital visit. Even with the protection, the wounds took 1.5 weeks to heal but they were very minor compared to what could have happened without protection.

  • @iggalan

    Why are gloves left out? In almost any fall you're going to use your hands to protect you body, meaning they're going to take a rough hit. I always wear helmet and gloves, this is non negotiable. Knee pads and elbow pads when doing trails and a full face helmet if I expect some gnarly trails (which at my current level means that I almost always wear it 😀 ).

    • @diviscadilek1764
      @diviscadilek1764 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yea, idk why they didn't mention how to wear a helmet properly, or the importance of wearing gloves. Seriously, when I fall off my bike, my hand is 100% always the first thing that hits the ground. I never hit my elbows or knees too bad, but hand injuries suck the most.

      I am a xc rider and road rider, i use gloves when i know im going to fall, i have much more confident bare hands and plus, you got to know how to crash too, which may sound silly, always try to avoid hands, i think i prefer breaking my forearm in half, than breaking my hand, gloves are not as “essential” as the other gear, you might land on your hands but trust me aside from cuts or rashes, they are kinda safe, if you wear them, keep wearing them, if you dont wear them, consider wearing them if you know for sure you might fall..

  • @scoobyspeed
    @scoobyspeed 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    First time I wore elbow pads a friend gave them to me when we turned up to the bike park. I just slide them on over the top of my jersey. Had a big fall and the jersey pinned between my elbow and pads just gave me the worst friction burn across my whole elbow that took weeks to heal due to it splitting everytime I bent my arm. Lesson learnt. They always go under your clothes lol

  • @petersilie2432

    I find the general disregard of hardshell knee-shin combos disturbing. Yes they seem bulky and often look oversized. But fashion aside - I've really tried everything over the decades, and have not found anything that fades so easily into forgettness like those. Since they are held up by your calf, they don't need to be as tight and still never slip. This not only makes the much airier, but also it eradicates the pinch abrasions on the back of the knee.
    And last but not least - it's never bad to have some shin protection!
    Try it!

    Most of us are underprotected and the reason is most dont like the added restriction and heat . I broken ribbs and collarbones are the more common injuries . I have broke them on a xc type ride so just because it's not a crazy downhill course it does not mean your not at risk .Most crashes come when you least expect it fear and overconfidence are the mental equation for a crash will be coming soon

    • @diviscadilek1764
      @diviscadilek1764 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's not much armor that prevents you from breaking ribs, or a collar bone. You might want to slow down and learn to fall properly.

      I try to ride so that I don't need to rely on body protection, and I feel that's worked better for me than medeival armor. That, and falling instincts from years of judo. Could have done 30 sec. On Helmets. That being said, as I know you guys, you did a full video on that topic. But I still see beginners with the helmet on the back of there head.

    The importance of wearing protective pads while riding MTBs makes me wanna wear em when I'm riding my roadbike coz I'm competing with crazy bikers n motorists on the road. Which might make me look crazy in their eyes. The hell with it!

      Road rash is fine. Just make sure you wear gloves, because they're most likely to hit the ground first, and your palms are the absolute worst place to get road rash, because you can't do anything while it heals. Also, I don't think these pads might prevent a fracture, or save your life in a collision with a motorist. I think they're only good for preventing cuts and bruises, at which point, why even wear them? The only useful piece of extra protection is a spine guard for scary DH. I like my MTB scars, they're like a badge of honor. If you want some real protection on the road, look more at the moto gear, but I doubt you'll want to wear that on your road bike.

    Helmet mistake sive seen: Wearing helmet with so loose strap falls off you get can get strangled, wearing helmet backwards. I've seen all of these and try to stop it if possible. Sadly very common mistake. Another is too small helmet.

    Everything functions properly th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Nothing was damaged in the box aside from a decal on the fork. The decal was missing a piece of a corner but I ended up peeling them off anyways. Assembly is easy BUT make sure you tune up the derailleurs. Both the front and rear need adjusting. I'd advise going to a bike shop but I opted out and put in 10+ hours with the help of TH-cam. Ended up fraying a shifter cable but all in all I learned from the experience. The Brakes work well but the front caliper needs adjusting or at least mine did because the rotor was rubbing against the pads. Make sure you swap out the seat, grips, and pedals. For the short run you'll be fine though. I've read that this bike isn't built yet for hard trails but I just need it for the city. PA has some of the worst roads and being in a mountain this was a great choice. Worth the investment!

    Bollocks, pads can be worn outside your trousers,. Why tear holes in your jeans when that's the job of the pads to protect. I wish all you guys would stop talking fashion garbage, pads on the outside no problem whatsoever, don't believe the bike hype.👌🤘

    Easy:
    when your elbowpads are to small, use your kneepads
    when your kneepads are too big, use your elbowpads
    if your kneepads are too small, use two helmets
