I did not know either until shortly before this video. I did not think it would cycle. I guess that the maximum pressure of the 40 cal and the minimum pressure of the 10 mm overlap. This will not work with 380 and 9 mm.
nit picking a 1911 because of the way you shoot it as apposed to the way someone else would shoot it makes it a non issue , the legendary texas ranger Charlie Miller used a strap around his grip to hold the back strap safety down , he always said the slide safety was enough, and he carried it his entire career , love the 1911.
Unless your thumb is riding on top of the thumb safety, there's no way to know for sure that it is actually off. On this particular gun it deactivates the back strap safety. You can keep the thumb down, but there's no guarantee that the safety is off and the gun will go bang. In a grappling situation, if your thumb is underneath the safety, it can accidentally engage it.
I have been told that on 1911's, the sensitivity of the backstrap safety is adjustable. It requires a complete breakdown and adjustment. If it was my gun, this is what I would look into. I would also contact the manufacturer. Perhaps they would take it in and do the adjustment themselves.
Wow! I never knew you could shoot .40SW through a 10mm.....interesting.

I think that makes the gun safer more than anything else man.
With the thumb riding on top of the safety, there's not enough pressure on the backstrap to relieve it in many situations.

People really concerned with wear of parts that move violently? It's a gun
This is a new gun. It's not an issue of Parts wearing. It's an issue that the two safeties conflict with each other. Using one deactivates the other.
Thumb under with 1911thumb over glock it has a pad for your finger
Could you put something on that safety to build up that contact patch so it would activate more reliably?
