    Let's get everything CLEAR :
    European French and Canadian French are the same language. But some words and expressions are different. And the accent is veeeeery different ! Sometimes, if we (I'm from France) listen to people from Canada, we don't understand everything, because some people have an important accent. But when you write it, exept for some expressions, that's the same language.
    That's like British English compared to Australian or Amercian, or European Portuguese compared to Brazilian Portuguese, but the accents are even more different.
    Thank you for reading :)
    (And I'm sorry if my English is not perfect, I'm only fifteen, I speak quite well but not fluently, because the way we learn foreign languages in France is shitty, personally I learned English in movies and musics, not really in class xD)

      But my problem is that I can write English quite well, but when I speak, even if I have a very good pronunciation (When I went to NYC, some people though I was american, I was very proud xD) it doesn't come naturally. I think in English, but I need some time to find my words... That's annoying !
      And also... I understand English (American more than British because of all the american movies I watch... but generally I understand both) but I can't really understand a whole movie (or a song, or a TV show...) because I understand the general meaning, but there are some things that I don't get sometimes... That's annoying too lmao

      Merci pour le clarifier pour tout le monde. Je ne comprend pas pourquoi Disney fait des différent éditions d'une même langue. C'est vraiment absurde selon moi. Le même chose est passé pour le Néerlandais. Ils ont fait une version Néerlandaise et une version Flammande, mais sauf l'accent c'est presque identique.

    • @lillyw3914
      @lillyw3914 10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Pour ce qui est du français les deux versions (canadienne et européenne) sont chantées par Anaïs Delva, il me semble d'ailleurs que ce sont exactement les mêmes chansons ! Après, je ne parle pas néerlandais alors je peux pas trop me prononcer mais je sais que par exemple l'accent portugais européen et l'accent brésilien ne sont pas du tout les mêmes, et il y a même des mots différents, ce qui explique les différentes versions ;)
      Mais oui, en clair, des fois Disney se fait un peu chier pour rien xD

    Wow, I think that the lyrics of the French version is even better than the English one. It's like there's so much more meaning in this song. I really love the used expressions, like 'perdue dans l'hiver' and 'la neige est reine à son tour'. French is a very beautiful language

      Ambre Telle Oui peut être, mais les arguments que vous avez donné au dessus pour justifier que le message n'a pas exactement la même intensité, sont strictement identique à ce qu'a pu dire Links dans sa vidéo sur les chansons Disney. Donc, il y a pas mal d'influences dans vos propos.

    Fun fact, at 1:15 : "J'ai laissé mon enfance en été" ("I left my childhood in summer") - meaning she accepted winter and while growing up - sounds a lot like "J'ai laissé mon enfance endettée" which means "I left my childhood in debt" - meaning she didn't have a childhood.
    This song is great and, to be honest, Disney France made an amazing work with songs since every song is awesome. I usually like movies in their original version (very often in english) but Disney's are just too excellent to say one version is better or worse than the other.

    I have kind of a bizarre fascination with song/poetry translation, and I've heard and read several versions of this song, and I think the French is by far the most beautiful, and not just because French is an inherently beautiful language. Most versions of this song give me feels. Only the French version made me cry.

    I looked up this video just to see the how the french version sounded, and as I read the lyrics in English, comparing it with the original English version, I thought god, the translation is horrible. BUT as I read on, I realized that the song itself made more sense in the story in french than in english. "Lost in the winter" "Left my childhood in the summer" "It's really too strong, I've struggled in vain" and so on. So I like more the french version. Thank You so much for the video. Merci !

  • @Kylephibbsky
    @Kylephibbsky 11 ปีที่แล้ว +140

    The French version, I think if not in the voice (because both versions are fantastic in that respect) but certainly in the writing is superior.
    On another note I really appreciate the French being written here, I'm going to be honest, as much as I claim to speak French, when I listened to it without subtitles, I got very little of what the song was about (I'm blaming the pacing, but the reality is, I just can't keep up translating in my head), but just looking at the French written down, I was able to get a much better idea.
    It's a beautiful song, whether in English or en Francais.

    • @TalysAlankil
      @TalysAlankil 11 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      The problem I have with the French version is that it loses the double meaning. When you say "Let it Go" is both about being free and about losing something. "Libérée, Délivrée" only focuses on the former.

    • @Kylephibbsky
      @Kylephibbsky 11 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That's actually a good point. I guess I never thought about that. I never saw the song so much about that loss, but it makes sense.

    • @imageez
      @imageez 11 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +AlexSalvatoreMiles, I totally missed that double meaning, which shows how cool the writers sublety (To,GIselle Massi, I fail to find that much of anxiety and confusion on the song,I can only sense them on half of the song, then continues to a sense of wonder and free expression).
      The superior part of the French version is how the writers reinvented the lyrics while maintaining the original intent of the lyrics each sentence. And it rhymed as well (I had a little itchy feeling each time the singer forced 'liberte' on the 'won't bother me anyway', but hey. Cold is small price for awesome writing skills)
      On an unrelated topic, I suggest that you looked up the Cantonese version. It may lost many part of the original narrative feeling of the song, but they totally turned the lyric into something that fits for a Chinese folklore, which is actually kind of poetic.
      Did I mention how cool this scene in a Dutch angle?

    • @KatieDontYouDare
      @KatieDontYouDare 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** I think that's supposed to be covered in "le froid est pour moi le prix de la liberte", she's losing her freedom. It's not the exact same as the English but you can only go so far making things fit in with music. (I'm sure the rest of the French dialogue will blend all of this though.)

    This is very well-made, i'll have to say. I'm learning french and have watched lots of these kinds of videos, comparing my own translation with the english ones. My mother tounge however, is swedish, and the swedish translation here (which I wasn't expecting at all when I clicked the video) was absolutely perfect according to me (and my somewhat limited knowledge of the french language). Also the English traslation was one of the better ones I've found. So all credit to the maker, really, people like you are needed to keep up the standards of the internet! By the way, may I ask if it's the same person who makes all of the translations? It doesn't really matter if they're all of the same quality as the english, french and swedish ones, I'm just curious, because if it is, that's REALLY impressing.

    • @FlamSparks
      @FlamSparks  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Moa Karlsson Ehm...sorry, by "all of these translation" do you mean the 13 translation you find in the video? In that case, no, only the English and Italian ones are mine. The rest was all made by people (all listed in the description) who understand French and translated the song into one or more languages they knew fluently enough (e.g. the Swedish translation was made by a native speaker). I alla fall, din kommentar riktigt gladde mig. Denna typ av komplimanger är ganska sällsynt och det är alltid vacker att läsa dem. Snälla, förlåt min ringa språk...svenska är en ganska ny språk för mig, och min färdigheter är ännu låga ^^"

    French took a tired and annoying song and made it a hundred times better again. The lyrics are so much more powerful, and some actually almost made me tear up a little, "J'ai laissé mon enfance en été" being one of them. So sorrowful, so beautiful. I am blessed that french is one of the languages we learn in school, and that I can speak it. Honestly, the only reason I'm writing this in english is that I write everything on the internet in english and it just feels weird not to.

    I heard "en été" too, and its logical. She say she let her childhood "in summer", because as a child, she had to obey to those who say she had to hide her powers, and, by the way she now choose to live in the cold to be free.

    • @natebot321
      @natebot321 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh. I just assumed that since she had the powers to control ice and snow she was unaffected by cold. Didn't know she was being sarcastic when she said "The cold never bothered me anyway" lol.

    • @boubabear9860
      @boubabear9860 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +natebot321 She IS unaffected by the cold. If the cold was a problem, she wouldn't be able to wear an ice dress, with her legs naked, on a mountain with snow and in an ice palace. Her powers protect her. But the French version translated the part so badly that it sounds like she suffers from the cold just like everyone else in the movie. And I think many people in France do believe that (although we never see her put on winter clothes like her sister, Hans or Kristoff).

    I know that a lot of people compare the different versions of disney songs with the original in english. I just want to say that it's normal if the words and the meaning are different. I'm french so I can tell for the french version that it's very important for a good song to have rythm, poetry, sometimes puns and a meaning. It's an art and even strangers who don't speak french and don't understand must to hear a beautiful sound, it's a kind of implicit rule. It's not the case for every song but pretty used for disney songs. Plus the difference of values and one way of looking at it, you can see the difference between american and european when you compare canadian and european french versions, both find often the other version weird, it's due to a difference of vocabulary but too of thinking. For me a good example to illustrate the difference between french and american point of view is an other frozen song "Love is an open door" which is "Love is a gift" in french, a difference to perceive love. Like in french Elsa in "Let it go" is more realistic and thinks about what she loses forever (her life, her sister), in the american version she's euphoric because of her new freedom, she seems impulsive like a teenage girl who says "so what ? It's my life, I don't care of others". Every version represents a general vision of a population influenced by its culture and values. So in fact we can't compare, because there isn't right or wrong versions, every one of them is unique.

    I like that you translated "délivrée" as "released" and not "delivered", like how Disney France translated it in their official upload. "Delivered" when referring to oneself in English has a very religious connotation.

    I know spanish/latin spanish/english/arab/mandarin versions and this is my fav after english ver!!! WOW, her voice is just precious and the lyrics make me cry (again... i cried over the original ver too). I'm a song writer who takes songs in other languages and re-writes them in spanish, so i know how hard that can be. French version is less alike the original tan spanish and mandarin ver., but it's beautiful... i loved the perdue dans l'hiver part ♥ and the fact this song it's saying she left herself in the summer and now the payed the price for being free having to live in the winter. THAT'S BRILLIANT!!!!
    i think i enyojed this version a lot since i speak french too, lol, thanks a lot for the translation i do that on aother youtube chanel and i know it takes so many hours...

      +Akira Yato Elle voulait dire langue romane, pas langue romance ;) Même si de manière générale, les langues romanes sont les langues de la romance :p

      akira yato Vos commentaires datent un peu mais je voulais juste ajouter que les langues romanes sont: le Français, l'Italien, l'Espagnol et le Portugais et elles sont toutes considérées comme des langues sexy, belles et romantiques 😉

    I'm pretty glad I took French. Spanish is most common where I'm from (Aside from English, I live in Southwestern USA) and it's pretty fun. It sounds so pretty! I've got this song down

    Libérée, délivrée
    Je ne mentirai plus jamais
    Libérée, délivrée
    C'est décidé, je m'en vais
    L'hiver s'installe doucement dans la nuit
    La neige est reine à son tour
    Un royaume de solitude
    Ma place est là pour toujours
    Le vent qui hurle en moi
    Ne pense plus à demain
    Il est bien trop fort
    J'ai lutté, en vain
    Cache tes pouvoirs, n'en parle pas
    Fais attention, le secret survivra
    Pas d'états d'âme, pas de tourments
    De sentiments
    Libérée, délivrée
    Je ne mentirai plus jamais
    Libérée, délivrée
    C'est décidé, je m'en vais
    Et me voilà
    Oui, je suis là
    Libérée, délivrée
    Le froid est pour moi le prix de la liberté
    Quand on prend de la hauteur
    Tout semble insignifiant
    La tristesse, l'angoisse et la peur
    M'ont quittées depuis longtemps
    Je peux enfin respirer
    Dans ce désert de neige
    Adieu le printemps et l'été
    Je préfère mes sortilèges
    Libérée, délivrée
    Je ne mentirai plus jamais
    Libérée, délivrée
    C'est décidé, je m'en vais
    Et me voilà
    Oui, je suis là
    Libérée, délivrée
    Le froid est pour moi le prix de la liberté
    Ici je vis
    La vie que j'ai choisie
    Je suis partie
    Pour reconstruire ma vie
    C'est dit, c'est ainsi
    Libérée, délivrée
    Je ne mentirai plus jamais
    Libérée, délivrée
    C'est décidé, je m'en vais
    Me voilà
    Je suis là
    Libérée, délivrée
    Le froid est pour moi le prix de la liberté
    Libérée
    Me voilà
    Libérée, délivrée

    People say she sounds to sweet for Elsa, but honestly I don't see where they're coming from. Her voice is beautiful, strong and free, fits The Ice Queen so well. Love it.
