This second song really brought back the kid in me. I was staring at the screen in awe, with open mouth, absorbed into what I was listening to. Like a kid being so much into a cartoon that the world around doesn't exist anymore. Thank you for this little trip.
It's insane how crisp and clean his hammer on and pull offs are! Has to be one of or if not the best acoustic guitar player I have ever seen play! It's just ridiculous how good you are Mike!
As a guy who has seen some of the cream of the crop players, Lanny Seals, Mike is the very best. Also, I've been playing guitar for 55 years, so I do know a thing or 3. I am a fan of Mike Dawes. Full stop.
Dear Mike, thanks for sharing your gift with the world. The first time I heard, "The Old Room" I couldn't stop crying as it brought to mind my beloved father who was my best friend on this lonely Earth, and who passed away in my arms in the same old room where we shared so many joys of just being in each other's company. The last few seconds of that piece is so intense, that my father's spirit actually visits me and I am able to communicate and speak with him. Dear Almighty God, thank you for Mike Dawes and his gift that helped me transcend this lonely world and be with my father and best friend once again, if only in spirit. The power of music, tis truly Godly. Thank you, Mike Dawes, you are so appreciated😘🤗🙏
Where I was born the locals often used understatements. To give an example: when somebody asked if the food had been tasty, one would answer: "I didn't have much problems to get it in". And the music? Well, I'm impressed, and that's an understatement!
I consider myself extremely fortunate to have seen and met Mike in Providence, R.I. when he opened for Justin Hayward (Moody Blues). I was blown away by his dexterity on the fretboard, very reminiscent of Eddie VanHalen's querky sounds. Amazing player, with long/thin fingers like Robert Johnson. He was really down to earth, and I was thrilled to get his CD signed, before he becomes "unreachable" to the public. AMAZING player!
I love watching virtuosos and no matter how good the guitar player, I'm still always amazing at how clean you play. Don't get me wrong, as a musician and audio engineer, I understand the hours that go into being this good without mistakes....but still.....I can't get over how clean you play and how composed you are when pulling of difficult techniques constantly. Your arranging and style are amazing, you're phrasing and dynamic stability are impeccable, and I just can't get enough. Thank you and keep doing you brotha. Much love.
The music is really beautiful, but until you see him playing you really have no idea of how it's being done--it's so physical and intricate. I saw Mike play in Nashville a couple of weeks ago and was blown away. I'm really glad these videos are available to watch over and over. Wishing you every success, Mike, and I hope you never tire of making music like this!
My wife and I saw Mike and Tommy Emanuel at the Egg in Albany. What a fantastic show. Two extremely gifted musicians. I believe God was playing through them. Feel blessed to have heard and seen them. Thankyou men, please keep playing , performing and composing as long as you can and enjoy it
Not much gives me goose bumps anymore until my ears met Mike Dawes. Close you eyes and listen, imagine you hadn't seen Mike play on stage. The array of sounds you're hearing can't possibly be made by one person. So crisp and creatve. Thanks for the performance Mike!
The old room is an amazing piece of music thank you mike dawes... in that song I hear the sound of antique furniture creaking while long lost memories and fantasies come to life... it's pure art
hello Mr. Mike thank you very much for sharing your music, its melodies which transport you to a world of your own and where we want to follow you on these paths rich in all these captivating notes, continued to walk on these paths, I always follow, again a big thank you.
its on thing to listen to mikes work , but to have followed him for many years its amazing to see the extra accents and texture with every year , a true entertainer , much love mike
Simply an amazing acoustic guitar player! Mike is the perfect example of putting a guitar in the right hands!!! I don't play acoustic but I really appreciate watch those who play it, I play old school heavy metal, Metallica, etc... I am 57 years old and who I looked up to when I started learning guitar was Country blue grass artist Roy Clark!! Then I heard Jimi Hendrix and dropped the acoustic quickly and bought a electric guitar and haven't looked back ever since. Each generation has a musician that stands out from the rest and I believe Mike is on his way to achieve that!! Sky is the limit my friend, kick a hole in the sky!! Keepin an eye on you!!
I love your music, Mike. It seems to me you've taken the technique of Michael Hedges and taken it to the next level. So well played and a joy to listen to!
I agree Emiel. I heard much of Michael Hedges in The Impossible. As a guitar player myself, I can't believe what Mike does with his instrument. His playing to me is other-worldly.
Parts of “Boogie Shred” remind me of Don Ross’ song “Michael, Michael, Michael”. That’s my favorite song by Don Ross. Would awesome if you covered it one day… anyways… awesome job! The clarity & tone of your playing is always incredible!!
You are a truly incredible musician and composer/arranger. Thanks, too, to Rick Beato for introducing me to Mike. Hope you perform sometime soon near Surrey, your old stomping ground. I’ll be there if you do.
WOW!! I can only say that his kind of guitar playing transport me on to another galaxy; simply amazing. Thank you to Rick Beato for bringing this gem on to the light. Thank you Mike for all your hard work to keep us entertained with your wonderful talent, be safe and be well. Greetings from Méjico!!
Eddie Van Halen was a master technician of electric guitar and now we have Mike Dawes who is a master technician of acoustic guitar, like Eddie who pulled sounds from his instrument nobody else conceived possible.
Glorious. I shoulda watched this in the evening, sipping a tumbler of 25 year old single malt Scotch by Glenlivet. This. Is. Mr. Dawes. And you bet it got shared.
Mike, I have followed one other guitarist whose work was/is far afield of the “expectations” most have for the acoustic instrument. When Michael Hedges passed away, he left a realm of the art unoccupied or only partially filled by a few artists. I can now say that you have not only inhabited that neglected realm, but are expanding Michael’s “Aerial Boundaries.” You wear the mantle gracefully, Mike. The gentleness you exude when playing is sheer stillness. Carry on! I’ll be listening. Diane 🎆
I found this style of guitar playing when a friend showed me Andy Mckee. Until now I haven't really seen or heard anyone who is on that level. This is amazing. Your creativity is unreal.

After a long break from playing guitar, this has given me the courage to quit for good.
The emotion on his face at the very end was so amazing to see. Mike Dawes is definitly one of my guitar heroes.

That’s sweet. You’re welcome!
We living in era that guitar player like this is underrated. He is whey better than some legend guitar players ever existed.
It's insane how crisp and clean his hammer on and pull offs are! Has to be one of or if not the best acoustic guitar player I have ever seen play! It's just ridiculous how good you are Mike!
I'd bet if ya asked him he'd take his hat off to John Martyn and Bert Jansch....
True talent thanks
@@mickkollins only because he’s a nice guy not because it’s true

I had the VERY good fortune to see him with Tommy Emmanuel at the Coach House out here in SoCal in mid-December 2022. What a show!

The 4 who gave thumbs down have just given up playing the guitar.
And probably pretty much everything else......
Without the aid of video, one would think they were hearing a guitarist, a bassist, and a percussionist on stage. Phenomenal!

Mike's on a whole different level. Beautiful, complex, extraordinary.
Magic! Saw Mike Dawes live at Justin Hayward’s concert in Clearwater FL’s Capital Theater on Oct.15th,2021. His performance was SPECTACULAR!
Technique and acoustic melody, unbeatable. Truly a gifted musician. Thank you, Sir.
The Old Room's ambience reverb sounds amazing! 🤤

This is amazing. Mike is the only 'percussive' guitarist I can listen to. Superb live sound as well......
Genius. This is what happens when talent collides with talent and then has a baby called talent.

Yes, I ended up here due to a Rick Beato review but I saw Mike Dawes with Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues in Portland Maine 2 or 3 years ago.

I never stop being impressed by how clean and effortless his harmonics are.
It's amazing seeing someone do whatever they can imagine with an instrument
He's probably the best! There are so many greats but he has opened a new avenue for playing the guitar!

This is UNREAL...I'm completely taken back and awed!!
Years ago, Bobby McFerrin did a song called "I'm my own Walkman", well Mike, you could do "I'm my own loop pedal". Proper job.
Sounds just fantastic!
