    These people survived dispossession and genocide, they deserve recognition and resources to support self-determination and cultural survival, thank you.

      Their language, culture and traditions must be taught, same for all other native people.

      The Spanish invaded, slaughtered them, took their land, forced them onto the "mission system,," forced them to convert to their religion, and made slaves out of them. Why not tax California Hispanics, and give all the money to Native development? Since Hispanics absolutely insist that they're Spanish, fine! Tax the crap out've them as reparations for what their ancestors did.

    Give them thier land. At least they can connect and know the people they are from. I have Native ancestry, but its so far back that I do not know who that ancestor is, and what tribe they are from. I dont even know the language or the culture, all I know is the general area and that its a huge possibility that the tribe was wiped out and the only survivors are the mixed descendants who passed thier genes to people like me. So I support any native people who want what is rightfully thiers.

    As an ohlone Indian I start with them. Our voice has be muted for too long. We need the attention of media for us to be heard! How much longer before our tribe even gets recognized?!

    The tribe shown dancing is Coast Pomo, not Ohlone.

    • @MrTwoCrows
      @MrTwoCrows 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      And Miwok, Maidu, etc. Ohlone is a miwok word.
      Different CAMP, not different tribe.
      It's not the difference between Inde and Lakota.

      My point was that the DANCE being performed is NOT Ohlone. As far as the people ACTUALLY dancing, I cannot say.
      The word Ohlone comes from the Costanoan Indian village name of 'Oljon' of the Ramaytush tribe and is in the Ramaytush language. We never used the word Ohlone to define ourselves as a nation, anthropologists did that. Although we have a connection ethnographically, we ARE different tribes with distinct languages.

      OHLONE WAS GIVEN BY THE HEARST'S SCIENTIFIC EDUCATION & COASTANOANS WAS THE SCIENTIFIC NAME GIVEN FOR THE ( MUWEKMA )TRIBE. -- OHLONE & COASTANOAN ARE SCIENTIFIC NAME FROM THE SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH INSTITUTES OF CALIFORNIAS EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM -- (MUWEKMA) IS THE THE TRIBE. THE GOVERNMENT WILL NOT GIVE THEM BACK THEIR RIGHTFUL TRIBAL STATUS & CORRECT TRIBAL NAME. THE MUWEKMA TRIBE HAS BEEN FIGHTING FOR THEIR RIGHTFUL TRIBAL STATUS & NAME!!!! CALIFORNIA NEEDS TO GIVE BACK THE RIGHTFUL TRIBAL NAME !!!

    What year was this gathering? 4th grade teacher in Bay Area. My students are curious about how many years it has happened?

    • @LizbethPlenty
      @LizbethPlenty ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Btw...I was born in Southern California and raised in the Bay Area, in Sw Oregon mountains 38 years since being priced out of California. Not all but there are quite a few racist people who moved in en masse and try to treat California as if there were no Native people. But that's not true, Native American tribes never left even though they were dispersed/ displaced by the grabby people.
      I am 68 years old now and have spent a lot of years working to help Native peoples regain their lives, via respect and support for their own voice and culture. I am not a "wannabe ", I value them for the distinct culture that they are, and constantly trying to educate myself about cultural ways.
      These are their ancestral lands and I applaud them for their work and respect for the land.
      Good luck with your teaching, it's a great gift.

    My wife are related to costanoan natives in dna test (myheritage+mytrueancestry) and she is turkish, how the hell can that be possible, we are very surprised:)

    • @pamle1
      @pamle1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      About 900 years ago, the land now known as Turkey was invaded by a very large horde of Turkic people. Turkics cover a vast land mass in Asia, right up to Siberia. In other words, they're "part Siberian"... and there's your answer.

    • @YaverMemolibaba
      @YaverMemolibaba 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@pamle1 so native american people are distant cousins to siberian turkic people, thats interesting:)

    • @pamle1
      @pamle1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@YaverMemolibaba Siberia was the DNA source, then their genes went in both directions. So that specific marker was picked up in Turkey, which was linked to the earlier migration to California.

    Hey Mother Jones. My name is Greeg. I have been living in San Francisco for over 40 years. I am an archer out in gg park. I am also 1/4 native to Belize. It is very depressing to me that indigenous cancel culture is so prevalent in our community and also that there is no Indian representation at the archery range or within sf park and rec. What can I do?

      Most Native people these days are of mixed descent. Without going into too much details, it comes with the colonial history and how society saw those of part native heritage. It's a somewhat similar case for black people here too
