Wow. This vid and subject overloaded my onion brain. First, on Dion. She is half French (Canadian) and can present, as she does here, tres French. The off-the-shoulder blouse is perfect. The EARRINGS. Dion doesn't wear earrings very often because she loses jewelry. Earrings can turn any outfit, here white blouse over jeans, into elegance. Dion's new set, the patterned wallpaper and Louis XIV curtains are an elegant stage. Finally on Dion, do other viewers/listeners not detect Dion's soft voice in this vid, the almost French "shwee, schwee"? It fits perfectly with the style she is profiling. I am embarrassed to say that I never heard of Jane Birkin. I am so impressed with everything about her life and style and am saddened that she passed--just four days ago. Most importantly, Ms. Birkin was an ETHICAL actor/model. In one of the outtakes that Dion uses Ms. Birkin says, "Even when you show everything, you reveal very little." To me that sums up neatly everything I am seeing about her. It gives a little bit of mystery to her. Approachable but not attainable. Her style (maybe her life, I don't know) is modest, not showy. Dion made the comparison to Cher. To me, Jane Birkin was the ANTI-Cher. There is dignity in Birkin that I do not see in Cher, that I do not see in her daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg, who just shocks, who just grosses me out with her exhibitionism. Jane Birkin's style is "down to earth", Dion says, "comfortable", "meant to be used, not DISPLAYED behind a glass case (or on a stage). Yet, Jane was naturally beautiful enough to be a model, Dion has a still of her in a black and white outfit; so she WAS displayed, and DID appear nude in a film, so she did "show everything". But still revealed "very little." What an admirable, grounded woman. As to the transferability of Jane Birkin's signature style, I can see why Dion would say it's just messy French girl or off-duty model. A naturally beautiful person looks beautiful in a plain white top and jeans. I don't. So I don't see this as a style that makes all of womankind shine. Jane Birkin shined whatever she was wearing or whenever she was wearing nothing at all. THUMBS UP! STANDING O! RIP.
