I love this series, thanks so much for sharing. I'm glad you always show the neutralizing color, and it's interesting how hard it is to get a real neutral grey with yellows and violets. I especially appreciated you talking about why Cad Yellow is your favorite, as I rarely use opaque colors and I'm always curious why we should have them in watercolor. One yellow missing from your extensive collection is PY150, which is a relatively new yellow for me. It's kind of a combo of an earth yellow and a pure yellow, and it's very aggressive in mixes and when charging, so it's a lot of fun to play with. Thanks again for your work on mixing colors, I'm getting great tips from your videos.
Thank you for your comment! I'm preparing one on blues as well. I'm happy to hear how it has helped you. I will look into the tellow you recommended for me. I'm always up for trying and testing new colors. It's good to have a variety of transparent to opaque colors for various purposes!! Let me know if there's anything you would like to see me test or try!!
Lovely comparison and demonstration! I am working with some new yellows on my palette right now to see if I like them: py150, py175, Py65, and Holbein Aureolin (py154,175,150 mix). I’ve had others in the past. I always feel frustrated with cool yellows (when mixing) I haven’t found my favorite really bright lemon yellow mixer yet. The only yellow I enjoy mixing with is py150. I’m testing out py175 (lemon yellow from DS), sometimes I love it, but other times it mixes a bit cloudy. Of course I do love working with PY3, but it’s not so lightfast. I love my transparent yellow ochre PY42 from Schmincke. It’s a horrible horrible consistency when pouring out, it looks exactly like poop (so unusual for Schmincke!) but it paints & mixes beautifully!) I love the color of py65 straight from the tube, but not my favorite for mixing, a little too opaque and cloudy for me. . ... I really like your Quin Gold mixes ! I wish that paint was still available! It looks like a transparent ochre & py150 combined, but wayyyy better ! I also have Yellow Sophie from Sennelier (py84 I think, and it’s gorgeous) and py154 in Schmincke, as well as Quinapthalone Yellow py138 from DS. I haven’t used these 3 a whole lot yet. ... basically I have way more yellows than I will ever need, it’s not even my favorite color! 🤣 oh I also have tried some of the cadmium yellows that came in my Mai Meri blu set, but haven’t explored that set a whole lot yet, I assume the cad yellows won’t be my favorites because I really fall for the super transparent colors.
There are so many great colors you mentioned, agree yellow is definitely not my favorite color and can't be a difficult color for mixing. I feel like a lot of them are cloudy and to opaque. I love transparents too and get frustrated when my mixes get a little murky. You mentioned several colors I have yet to try, I will have to look into it. Also can you not find the Quin gold?🤔
@@AlisaLaporteArt the po49 quin gold has been discontinued in all brands. I didn’t know it existed until it was gone. There are dual pigment mixes now, usually py150&po48, but they don’t look exactly the same. But since I keep py150 and po48 on my palettes already, I haven’t tried them :)
I realise you wrote this a year ago, but as for a bright, cool and transparent yellow, have you tried the Roman Szmal PY109? 🙂 I think it's called Isoindolinone Yellow Light or something similar. And how have you liked the colours you were trying out? 🙂
@@hannahthufvesson oooo I have not tried py109 yet! I’ll have a look at it online if I can. What pigment would you compare it too? I’ve still been enjoying my Holbein Aureolin the most. It is a multi pigment color, and really I don’t go for those too much, but it does what I want it too more than the other options, 😁 I still don’t like the other cool yellows I mentioned, they just don’t mix transparent how I want , and I mostly use this kind of yellow for mixing. I have been wanting to try out py128 from Rembrandt after paint in hiding had it on her summer tetrad video.

I forgot to say that I really enjoy Holbein Aureolin (mix) . It does well in mixes and is a nice lighter mid yellow :) nice and transparent.
