This is not for someone restoring a Coleman lantern but someone trying to fix theirs.. If you want to restore then purchase the proper check valve tool. Good luck ! After soaking my check valve it turned out it was stuck so it's cleared now and my lantern runs like a champ !
martK banjoboy i tried it and without having someone to hold the fount it's hard to do it solo. If u wana skip the socket and adapter use vice grips and press hard and have someone hold it tight. The rotational power of an impact and doing it solo beats trying to have someone hold it and trying to turn it. I tried it no bueno.
martK banjoboy yah bro it's a bitch to get out, i dont know why they set them soo tight that you'd need to buy/make a special tool for em. Hey you live and learn. I believe when i put mine back in i did the vice grip and chisel method to just snug it back in. This was my first in depth tear down of the lantern but i have basic car knowledge and a lot of tools to mickey mouse a contration that i thought would work and luckily it did. If you go to home depot site and put "tekton 1/2 chisel" thats about what i had and it's 6.42 and if you have a bench grinder, angle grinder or regular file you can make my tool. Now if u want it impact driven u need an impact driver and hex to 3/8 shaft to fit a 1/2 in socket.
I will rig up an easy out some how with a bushing. also will probably have to fill the font with kerosene to free up the threads. That can wait though. The original tank had rust inside anyways.
No, ground isn't the word I was after either. I should have said "I kept grinding" but whatever. I had some beers in me when making the video, at least I got the information across.

Locking pliers make excellent handles I find.
