That and this is per catharsis from how the games have been treating him. Never underestimate the eggman, nor his master plan.
I hope Shadow becomes a part of this story. He's been through the whole "Genetically engineered monster made by a scientist for bad reasons who now feels directionless" thing himself. Another reason as to why Eggman don't want to hurt Belle, beside him definitely planning to exploit her later to get at the heroes and the tiny spark of Mr. Tinker remaining, is that he may genuinely feel proud of her. This is the guy who plaster his face on literally everything he build after all, so Pride is always a part of Dr. Eggman. Despite saying he disliked Belle's design and the materials used to make her and created when Eggman isn't in his right state of mind, Belle is still undeniably Eggman's tech. When they met last issue, Eggman is impressed that she seemingly managed to fix Metal and interfaced with his network with ease. While she lacked the combat capability of his other machines, she definitely take after her father in "tinkering." That not even taking into account Belle is one of the most rounded and complex sentient machine created. If Eggman see Metal as his favorite love child, then Belle would be the runt of the pack but with great untapped potential. Now that I think about it, Belle fixing Metal is essentially the little sister bandages the big brother's wounds.
It’s cool people are connecting Surge’s scene with the Sonic OVA, because I saw the scene with her in the pit in issue 50 a homage to the “there’s only one sonic” scene at the end. Except Metal tried to cheer up Sonic and try to say it’s not his fault, meanwhile Surge wanted the last laugh and try to show Sonic’s morality leads to faults.
5:40 - I have never popped off as hard for Sonic as I did when I saw those toy soldier badniks from toy kingdom in advance 3 as that was the game that introduced me to the blue blur and thusly a big part of my childhood
I think I have an idea of how Starline "might" make a return later on, back during the metal virus saga/arc Eggman showed off his man-cave to Starline in "Eggman's day off". In it there were toy models of different characters one of which was a toy Mecha/Metal Starline, anyway once the Egg city arc warps up and the Badniks find what remains of Starline while cleaning up, Eggman could remake/rebuild Starline turning him a Badnik similar to Metal Sonic. Although perhaps one more focused on engineering then combat since Belle turned down Eggman's offer.
I just though Starline was unconscious, but instead Eggman practically snapped Starline's neck when he slammed him into the ground, and it was still surprising to see Eggman do that without any robots in the previous issue.
When you mentioned a line that was super cringey, I think it might have meant when Belle talked about Starline being gone and Sonic says "Big Oof", I think some people had a problem with Sonic sounding so insensitive, despite all the crap the guy made for practically everyone.
I LOVE how this issue shows all the ignorant fans that Metal Sonic is DEFINITELY NOT a generic “Eggbot” with no feelings or emotion .. He’s just like Gamma , Omega , Emerl .. he has personality .. its just that he’s just pure evil like Eggman & THATS why hes so loyal to Metal Sonic & he will always be Eggmans TRUE right-hand man . I LOVE METAL
Archie’s Shadow Saga had some cool moments with most of the Living Weapons, like a Metal Sonic variant contemplating his existence, & Gamma integrating his code with Omega’s, giving him free will. Hell, Shard is supposed to be the OG Mecha Sonic Model, but he gained a conscience
As one of the three Sonic Advance fans in here, I feel obliged to mention there were actually a few badniks from those games as well! I mean there's two badniks from Toy Kingdom alone (Guards and Juggling)! That's like, my favourite zone man! 😩
My opinion on the "Big oof" bit is that Sonic couldn't bring himself to feel compassion for Starline, because Starline died a villain, his death was a result of the choices Sonic let him have the freedom to make for himself. Unlike Eggman, who has given Sonic just enough hints over their time fighting to suggest there is a possibility to change, however tiny, Starline has literally never done anything to even slightly suggest that there was any possibility at all of Starline reforming, so Sonic takes it as it is. He was more affected by his thinking Surge died because he knew she was a victim of someone else's schemes, like the vast majority of villains he has successfully reformed in the past, so it hurt him more. Starline had none of that, so Sonic chose to let his death fall off his back like water off a platypus. Lol
“Big oop” is now my new favorite sonic quote 2:21 and now he’s a cold body behind some rubble so he got what he deserved 7:07 Really? I thought that it was the jet/plant Metal Sonic used in Sonic 4 Episode 2.
I like how many Badnicks are referenced in this comic, geeks out when I saw the unleashed egg pawns and the fan bot (laughed so hard). Shows probably how much power each robot in the thousands has, as a full unit against sonic. I also like how, whilst sonic is fighting these robots, he is handicapped by being on his own as tails is escorting belle and the unconscious kit, and how he is weaker then he would be with his friends as a team.
Metal Sonic having a personality? Interesting. And a bit of SATAM with the whole Robo-city thing, and Eggman willing to destroy everything to defeat Sonic
As much as I love you covering IDW, I am really glad you are going to take a break from covering the comics for a bit. I really wanna hear your thoughts on archie because that sounds like its going to be interesting.
i am so extremely interested in future interactions with belle and metal sonic-- their backgrounds in relation to one another are so interesting and complex. belle had to cope with losing her dad, but she was raised with love, care, and respect, and it shaped her ideals. eggman might not be metal's "dad", but there's clearly some respect/pride they share with one another, eggman's relatonship with metal makes me feel like metal's loyalty isn't manufactured. these two different bots were built for different purposes, but to me they are two sides of the same coin. (small-ish spoilers for the issue after this one, i read all these in one go oops) i hope that the nuggets of metal's never-ending depression arc (referring to some characterization outside of the battle scenes) in the comics build up to more, and i think it would be so cool for belle to be the one to do something about it. she has the ability to empathize with him that no one else does, and you could tell she was totally heartbroken that metal did not give her that same treatment. while i think metal should/will stay a villain, i would love to see a positive connection forming with belle that brings a lot more nuance to his character
Have to say, the design of the falcon fighter from Sonic Heroes was a bit weird. We never saw it's face, just the bird mask. Seeing it with a sort of face was just... which robot was it? And while Sonic never said "let's do it to it!" In this comic, we all know that would have been said if this was an Archie issue. Like, that line *belongs* there...
Like I love the metal overlord, do agree with you that one time you said you didn't like Metal talking. To some extent yes, I do like it when he talks it should just be brief, few and far in between, like when he was dying in the OVA, just a few words, I like when he talks but a little too talkative in Heroes, you're at 11, tone it down to maybe a 9 or 8. This feels like a good balance, I love the emotions he's being given here, the clenched fist ooh, no words but says a lot. Metal Sonic next to Sonic is my favorite character in the whole franchise, What I'm made of my favorite song next to With Me (no matter how bad people may or may not think Black Knight is of a game... that song SLAPS) I love him to death, always giddy when he shows up, even giddier if he's playable even if he's just a Sonic clone, to see him get his justice in this comic series has been amazing. So can't wait to see him in the future of this, to... turn it up and SEE... what he's made of.
If Sonic's out of commission, that means the only active fighters remaining are Tails and Kit. I'm excited as fuck to see those foxes tearing it up in the next issue. They really need more shared screen time
Another one of these this soon was quite the pleasant surprise. I know its not something that'll happen regularly but it didn't stop it from making my day. ^^
Considering that Eggman asked Belle to clarify that she had interfaced directly with Metal's systems while she were repairing him, it seems to me like he's going to use that connection to concoct an evil scheme in the future.
I hate these comic writers they just won't stop making Belle suffer or be used by the doctors against her friends. I'm about ready to tell both Ian and Evan off!
The last appearance of the Giant Death Egg Robo Shuttle was in Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed iirc. Multiple instances of them appear in the background of the Death Egg Hangar track. Its really cool!
I always thought Sonic worked best when he was written like Flash from the show. Still the hero, but not an unstoppable force. He still needs others to help him, and at times lets them use there unique skills to solve problems. I'm really hoping that Tails, Belle, or even Kit save the day in this arc.
When I say that Tinkerer might still be be inside Eggman. People ended up Attacking me like Crazy. Calling me Stupid. When you say it though people going to be like People: Maybe
Good video mate. Always love a little metal sonic. Also that call back to the end of sonic 3 and Knuckles.. u swear all I can hear now is the doomsday zone music!
I've been blessed. I thought I was going to have to wait a little longer for this (and I'm absolutely willing to, always take time on your content to make sure it's well polished and that you're in good health), but I did not expect another one to come so soon.
The reason I saw for all the different classic badniks is also from Eggman's new city which looks like a combination of the OVA's Robotropolis with SatAM's Robotropolis. As of the planet, it has to be Mobius because it's the only game cannon using Angel Island, though they might've merged Mobius with Planet Freedom hence a "no name" planet. Or they might be trying to merge all Sonic timelines together slowly. I don't expect a reply from you, Nick, but I do hope you'll read my thoughts above.

That Cliff hanger almost killed me thanks man!
Me too.
Belle: "I saw Starline have a mental breakdown and die"
Sonic: "Oh no. Anyway..."
5:40 - I have never popped off as hard for Sonic as I did when I saw those toy soldier badniks from toy kingdom in advance 3 as that was the game that introduced me to the blue blur and thusly a big part of my childhood
Awesome! Can’t get enough of your videos man! I’m excited for the other uploads we’re getting too!
I don't know what badnik cameo I liked more: the turtles, the Klagen or the E-1000 just off the side at 7:53.
4:13 yeah I also misread it at first. Big oofs all aro- waaaiiiitt a minute
🎶I’ll make it through prove it to you! Follow Me! Oh yeah! 🎶
Always loved metal sonic and wish he got more story in games and comics
I just though Starline was unconscious, but instead Eggman practically snapped Starline's neck when he slammed him into the ground, and it was still surprising to see Eggman do that without any robots in the previous issue.
Oh hell yeah, I love the OVA, any reference is acceptable... when we getting Knuckles down under with his hat?
GOD I love the relationship and connection between Sonic and metal Sonic!
When you mentioned a line that was super cringey, I think it might have meant when Belle talked about Starline being gone and Sonic says "Big Oof", I think some people had a problem with Sonic sounding so insensitive, despite all the crap the guy made for practically everyone.
Hyper Sonic: Uses missiles to take out the air ship.
Metal: BLASTS THROUGH THE WHOLE THING!!!!!!!!!
As someone who was all up and arms about Sonic’s pacifist extremest moral code in issue 50. “Big oof” went over just fine with me.
Sure, now if this issue could show the same to SEGA, we might have a deal.
As good as big fights are in stories like this, I do love seeing characters go through the immediate aftermath of it 😊
As one of the three Sonic Advance fans in here, I feel obliged to mention there were actually a few badniks from those games as well!
Lol
I was oddly ecstatic to see the EggMonitor from Shadow reappear in this comic!
“Big oop” is now my new favorite sonic quote
2:21 and now he’s a cold body behind some rubble so he got what he deserved
7:07 Really? I thought that it was the jet/plant Metal Sonic used in Sonic 4 Episode 2.
Its not, his airship was longer, wider with red and yellow accents and a white on the bottom, I do wish that ship would make a return though.
@@GoatsCarcass oh my bad. Got that impression from the issue showing badniks from sky chase along with/near the ship
Yeah, the Final Weapon is bulkier than the Metal Carrier
I like how many Badnicks are referenced in this comic, geeks out when I saw the unleashed egg pawns and the fan bot (laughed so hard). Shows probably how much power each robot in the thousands has, as a full unit against sonic. I also like how, whilst sonic is fighting these robots, he is handicapped by being on his own as tails is escorting belle and the unconscious kit, and how he is weaker then he would be with his friends as a team.
When sonic was falling from the top building pole, it reminded me a lot of sonic x; when knuckles punched down tree a sonic was on.
Heheheh… big oof to the Mr. Tinkle😂
Metal Sonic having a personality? Interesting. And a bit of SATAM with the whole Robo-city thing, and Eggman willing to destroy everything to defeat Sonic
I remember having an idea of a civilization living in places like Volcano Valley Zone
As much as I love you covering IDW, I am really glad you are going to take a break from covering the comics for a bit. I really wanna hear your thoughts on archie because that sounds like its going to be interesting.
I believe the cringe line was likely when Sonic said "big oof" in response to being told about Starline's demise.
i am so extremely interested in future interactions with belle and metal sonic-- their backgrounds in relation to one another are so interesting and complex. belle had to cope with losing her dad, but she was raised with love, care, and respect, and it shaped her ideals. eggman might not be metal's "dad", but there's clearly some respect/pride they share with one another, eggman's relatonship with metal makes me feel like metal's loyalty isn't manufactured. these two different bots were built for different purposes, but to me they are two sides of the same coin.
(small-ish spoilers for the issue after this one, i read all these in one go oops)
i hope that the nuggets of metal's never-ending depression arc (referring to some characterization outside of the battle scenes) in the comics build up to more, and i think it would be so cool for belle to be the one to do something about it. she has the ability to empathize with him that no one else does, and you could tell she was totally heartbroken that metal did not give her that same treatment. while i think metal should/will stay a villain, i would love to see a positive connection forming with belle that brings a lot more nuance to his character
I knew I felt some SatAM vibes. (Also, It's SO GOOD to be a Patreon Member!)
Of course they brought back the floating Monitor Eggman uses from Shadow the Hedgehog game, as no other comics ever bothered, none.
They really need more shared screen time
Got the song stuck in my head now and I don’t care, will never get tired of that song. 💙
Don't worry Nick, I also read it as "let's do it to it"
10:17
"Mr Tinkles...
Don't forget to wash behind your ears"
When I say that Tinkerer might still be be inside Eggman. People ended up Attacking me like Crazy. Calling me Stupid. When you say it though people going to be like
People: Maybe
another chapter reading so soon?
the gods smile upon us
Good video mate. Always love a little metal sonic.
Also that call back to the end of sonic 3 and Knuckles.. u swear all I can hear now is the doomsday zone music!
Starline is Dead
Sonic: CowaBummer!
As soon as I saw the littlest bit of that ship I knew IMMEDIATELY what that was :D
Theres a panel where you can see the gamma model just chilling
Sonic: (does something)
Metal Sonic: Are you challenging me?
SonicPAJ is pronounced "Sonic Padge". But thanks for the shout-out!
you know a video is good when the most viewed segment ISN'T the end of the sponsor
I've been blessed. I thought I was going to have to wait a little longer for this (and I'm absolutely willing to, always take time on your content to make sure it's well polished and that you're in good health), but I did not expect another one to come so soon.
I noticed the ship from S3&K the first panel it was on! I had such a goofy smile on my face!
I love that eggman’s floating monitor is the same one he used in Shadow the Hedgehog (2005)
[High quality humorous statement]
Belle: Dr Starlight is no more!
Sonic: Oh dear, how sad, never mind
I'm glad they got Hideo Kojima on the team to write the new character : Big Oofman.
The real villain was the Bigoofnik's we met along the way.
