There are seemingly dozens of videos on TH-cam addressing the issue of fast and clean doubles. This is the one that worked for me. Thanks.

Dude. I have been warching your videos for awhile and have been trying the “French grip exercise” for awhile now. I could not for the life of me get my left hand to work well. The stick always had an elliptical orbit and slipped a ton. I remembered one of your other videos about moisturizing…once I got my hand a little damp, the stick didn’t slip, the flight path actually improved, and I managed a consistent rhythm for long enough that I felt the muscle tightness.
You are the real deal, dude. Thank you so much for pouring your time and effort into these videos. With persistence and positivity , these techniques can be achieved. You actually CAN do this!

I’m gonna have to start using your videos a lot more cuz I’m trying to teach myself but also trying to teach my 8yr old deaf daughter. Man is it definitely a test of my patience but she’s gettin it.

The hardest part is just getting my fingers in my left hand to work like my right hand, I think it's purely spending the time with my left hand to bring it up to speed. I'm now playing with my left hand on the HiHat while practicing and using my right hand as the snare hand, this seems to be helpful.

Hi Stephen - this is where I am at - a bit slow - fairly even - just now getting the French ‘action’ going with my weak hand - not quite getting full height rebound - not quite getting the hard snap off the rebound quickly enough. You have given me enough to work on for next 3-4 months. Owen

The most difficult thing for me is to keep the stick moving in a straight line i.e. hitting the same mark on the practice pad and the time it takes (years) Excellent work with the different technique for increasing speed.

Perfect timing on this video for me! Thank you Stephen! Both the left hand weakness and finger control have been an issue for years but lately it's all coming together thanks to you actually explaining the science behind the process

You've described a problem so precisely. I can't play doubles well over 115l6 bpm. Hope to overcome it

I’m struggling to play fast hi-hat and ride notes in songs with a tempo of 190-215 (like “Dammit” by Blink182). Trying to improve my Moeller technique but if you have any other advice please let me know! Thanks for your amazing videos, they’re helping a lot.

Referring to your request for comment: I am struggling to get the doubles in a regular sound when I change over from 1 hand to the other. A smooth rolling sound. Right now it make tak-tak….tak-tak 😊

The hardest thing with doubles overall for me is trying to do anything that switches between singles and doubles. Except single paradiddles, those are pretty ok, but double paradiddles or paradiddle-diddles or anything from the Stick Control book where there's a sudden double in between a bunch of singles is really hard to get tight.

Same here, only thing thats helped me with transitions is deliberately slowing down the whole rudiment or pulling out the trouble part and focus on that.
For me RLRRLRLL got split in two parts; RLRR..LRLL 🤷‍♂️ slow down or break it into segments like learning fills.

    Hey Stephen,
I struggle with a fee things... 1) the weak hand seems to bounce the stick in random spots on the pad/snare when I use my fingers. 2) keeping the doubles in time. Basically making it sound like 1,2.. 1,2 instead of 1,2,3,4. I hope that makes sense. 3) when I get the fingers to be most even, the volume on the finger (double) contact, the volume is much louder than the wrist contact.
Thanks for all of the leasons/advice!!!
    Ben

    Hello Stephen
I'm an older player and my finger joints are stiffer than they used to be, I'm left handed but my left hand seems to be my weaker hand, I'm experiencing quicker fatigue in my left fingers and feel like my left hand is stiffer and more resistant than my right hand, they are pretty evenly matched and the notes are pretty clean at 200 and above but I still lack in strength moving to the toms, I'm doing the finger exercises to build strength but I'm not where I should be, on a practice pad 230 is my limit but toms nowhere near that

Love your lessons, they are so easy to follow and understand. Wondered if you had a one page list that shows the order a person should follow regarding your videos. For example, if i'm interested in getting better at doubles, I think you have a few videos around that, which should I watch first, second and third etc.? Thank you!

I didn't hear you say it in this video, but apparently the fulcrum shifts back to index finger when using fingers and faster tempos. Is it possible to do fast doubles with a middle finger fulcrum in Moeller? Is Moeller using fingers at fast tempos?
