this was my dad’s favorite song. he is gone now & i miss him so much. i remember when i was young he used to sit quietly listening to this song & my brothers & i would all listen to it with him. this brings me back to those days gone. a wonderful song & a wonderful memory.
O memories its years since i seen this film i loved Maggie Smith in this film and the song absoluety beautiful love that Scottish sound with an old irish sound mixed together. Films of that time were well done .O to be young again going to the movies i miss that pity 😪.❤
Such a beautiful film so well done ! It wasn't until I was an adult that I realized its theme the sometimes tragic difference between style and substance , sense and sensibility . What hits me now like a hammer in the head is many of us never realize the difference and lose our lives living in the fractured misguidance of an attractive stylish surface . One wants to believe in the Miss Brodies of our world and she has her mind and she has decided but each of us is limited . Influence and education are really everything and what does it mean that many of us never recover from our upbringing . Knowing Better could be a new novel based on this with young black children . Ghastly extremes this idea could be pushed to as we see everyday in our lives and on the nightly news !
In life ... and often not known because it has a predilection for certain people, authors, composers ... It will be the case with Rod Mc Kuen .... And this is the case with this Suite .... I felt deep admiration and respect for the figure of Mc Kuen! ..... I go to sleep ... while in my ears .... sounds ... Jean ... Jean ......
It's really nice to find this, the movie came on cable here in UK a week or so ago, I have it saved to watch again, this is a super find. Thankyou. Pop.
Beautifully put together as always. Thank you so much for this exceptional blending of a lovely musical score with wonderful photographs. Kudos to you!
+Silvanus Slaughter A beautiful and original soundtrack composed by Rod McKuen, arranged and conducted by Arthur Greenslade, first on 20th Century Fox Records./
I always knew the part starting at 9:00 as part of the score of Jackie Chan's signature movie, the original Drunken Master..as his training montage music... Just recently found out that it was stolen from this film!! 😆😆
I can't believe i'm saying this but... the music in this from 9:00 onwards was used in the training montages in Drunken Master of all films i am baffled by this discovery lol
Sadiq Malik It's about a middle-aged female teacher at a conservative girls' school in Scotland (about 1930?) who indoctrinates her students with assorted ideas and ideals, many of them contradictory and many of them inappropriate for the age of her students. She has two affairs with two male teachers at the school, but won't marry because she says she is devoted to "her girls." It is about her influence over her students, and the damage that she does. Also, it's about her own delusion, not being aware that she can indeed be fired and that she will grow old and might find herself lost and alone. Her ego is so inflated, however, that she doesn't even realize this when the movie ends. We can only guess what the rest of her life will be like. Central idea is the fallibility of a powerful yet delusional human ego.
Don't like the sweet potato or whatever yokel instrument that opens it. Wonder if Rod McKuen arranged the music as well? Anyone know? I liked the hit song as sung by Rod in his hoarse voice.
A pretty tune, but what an awfully inappropriate coda to a story about a warped personality who destroys one of her student acolytes and induces another to instigate her firing!

9:00 - 11:42 - Jackie Chan's Drunken Master.
My girls. Simply when she says those words.
+Tony Philpott ...I wish I had a teacher like that growing up...how my life would be different.
I had a few, yet none such a romantical type. I thought that I could be such a teacher, but never directed either.
Her "Miss Jean Brodie" surely deserved that Oscar...so watchable....believable at first sight.

A funny moment for me was reading once, on a Harry Potter website, a young girl writing: "and whoever is that old woman playing Minerva McGonigal?"
Stephens (Teddy Lloyd) was her husband in real life
