I went to Bali in 1970 when there was just one large hotel on the island and very few tourists. Back then, the world was still mysterious, there were exciting, often quiet places to discover. Today every corner of the globe is filled with loud American tourists looking for burgers, drunk college kids doing stupid things, crappy Starbucks branches and all-night “dance parties.” I’m just happy I saw the world back then.
As someone who has spent quite a lot of time in Bali and Indonesia. There are many, MANY quiet spots in the archipelago still to discover. There are 18,000+ islands in Indonesia alone and only around 6k are inhabited. Even in Bali there are spots on the island that are not touristy. Your statement comes off as cringe boomer back in my day type shit. Stop whining about the "kids" and look at your own damn self.
It is horrendous. Bali had such a unique and artistic culture. I cannot imagine how it has been harmed by the coarse modern tourism. Why do young people think it is so great to go to another country to get drunk and vomit? They do the exact same thing at home. It isn't as though they are "experiencing" any other culture. The utter lack of sensitivity to other countries' ways of life is obscene. I'm not fan of many of the attitudes towards women held by various religions, but I remember being in Luxor and seeing a British woman walking along the main street in a tiny bikini. Huge breasts barely covered, her arse everywhere. It was obscene in many senses of the word. How could she not notice that this was not the way to behave. It isn't even the way a British woman would behave in the middle on London.
It might be a bit callous, but the only empathy I felt, watching this, was for the caged rooster @21:42 - displaying the typical pacing stress of a caged animal... He is the only one in there, that hasn't broke the law.
I have zero sympathy for any of them, exept the rooster. Done the crime- time to do the time. They have cellphones, laptops ect. with internet connection! Officially it's not allowed but they tolerate it if the inmates only use it in their blocks. The guards even buy it for them if they pay for it.
No country which has prisons such as these should be eligible for any kind of aid from the West and should be subject to severe sanctions.
@@fazbell are you saying prisons in the U.S. are more humane? You must be joking.
Wow Bali in 1970. Would of been nice Bali has never really interested me like other places in South East Asia
I'm not fan of many of the attitudes towards women held by various religions,
but I remember being in Luxor and seeing a British woman walking along the main street in a tiny bikini. Huge breasts barely covered, her arse everywhere.
It was obscene in many senses of the word. How could she not notice that this was not the way to behave. It isn't even the way a British woman would behave in the middle on London.
Don’t forget the attention hungry influencers
Cheers

Matthew Norman deserves to be released. He was 18yrs old when he made that mistake. He was practically a boy who fell vulnerable to the wrong crowd and was mislead. It's obvious he is a great man now. Young people deserve to be allowed to make a mistake and learn from it and should be released if they are showing the remorse that this man is and the change this man has made. Man... Indonesian prison is waaaaay better than american prison
Maybe! But I bet its not as good as you think. They don't let people film inside the prison very often, so it bet it was in tip top condition and everyone told to be on best behaviour. They wouldn't let them film inside the womans section and they only showed you the foreigners cells that they have to pay for, or what the average Indonesian prisoner gets fed. I bet the average poor Indonesian convict has it hard sleeping in a hot non air conditioned cell, on the cramped floor, with 20 other disease riden sweaty junkies. I bet the film makers and cons where under strict instructions what they can say or do. Did you notice no questions was asked about how the guards treated people, or how much drugs gets smuggled in, or how the eating arrangements work? All of which would be the main theme of a western prison documentary.
you must have forgotten about the executions for drug dealers
