Everyone wishes Maxi was gone instead of Green, but in reality Maxi is a far more impactful defender. And keeps depth at the 4, which would would lacking if he was gone. His biggest issue is his 3pt shooting, but he's a bench guy, and you've added (in theory) 3pt shooters in Marshall, Grimes, and Klay. So he can stay as your backup 4 who's primarily there for defense and hope his open 3's fall more often than not. As long as he doesn't have to play too many minutes at center (assuming his 3s aren't falling) he's a great role player. Plus, Green was more energy than impact (he's small on defense and can't create for himself, lots of effort/dirty work plays like rebounds, steals). This team is still good defensively: Lively, Gafford, PJ, Marshall, Grimes, Maxi are all positive defenders. Don't play too many mintues of Klay, Ky and Luka (obviously, i hope to Kidd at least) and you're in the green. Treat Klay as a 6man, not a starter. He's taking THJ's role, not DJJ's. He is just supposed to be a third option who's not a defensive liablility and can shoot reliably at .38ish from 3 in regular season and playoffs -- which he's done for his whole career. Another way to look at is: Grimes is a slight improvement over Green (more well-rounded player); Naji Marshall is at least as good as DJJ (less athletic and maybe not so good a point of attack defender, but shoots better and is slightly stronger); and Klay is a massive improvement over THJ (a.k.a. worst shot selector ever with 0 basketball IQ, streaky as hell and a defensive hole). Really sad for DJJ to be honest, we could've kept him as he was one of the few who was really into it during the finals. However, KT is a great addition and should work well with the mavs iso plays with luca
I'm not a fan of the trade. When the Warriors won in 2022, Klay was the 5th best player after Curry, Wiggins, Green and Poole. Since then he's been dragging them down. 0/10 in his final game against the Kings sums up his current state.
Unfortunately, I agree. Mavs have lost DJJ and Josh Green ... and added Klay and Marshall .... unless Klay plays better than last year .... I think they regressed -- especiall on D.

Look at what they said about Kyrie Irving joining the Mavs. It wouldn't work with him and Luka. Look at the Mavs NOW! Klay Thompson will fit in just FINE. I believe he will play great in Dallas.
My problem wit klay is not that he won't b able to b a reliable 3rd option, my issue is whether he'll want to be. We all saw how he was acting last season, just chucking up shots, forcing it, bad body language. I hope it was just a warriors internal thing or maybe nico made it very clear what his role would b here.
This I believe will make them better and potentially come back stronger next year. They already upset rest of the nba world this year going to the finals with getting their roster only 4 months out from the playoffs...Now they'll have a year to prep. Let's see what happens.
I think he will make us better.... bot too much but it fits his deal. So it is a good addition. We still need another star which kla not is and another playmaker from the bench. A 5 of Luka, Kyrie, Klay, Starplayer x, Lively and a bench: Playmaker x, Pj Washingon, Naji Marshall, Maxi, DG, Hardy and Exum would be nice... But ofcourse if you go for a star you need to trade something...

Will Klay be a 30 minute a game 6th man or a starting 3? If Marshal is hitting his threes like last season I can see him starting for us for his defense. But three years for 50 mill is excellent, shows that KT was thinking about winning.
Klay thompson also allows the offense to become a little more complex as you can have a high pick and roll with a baseline screen action for klay to the other corner or wing. None of our theee point shooter were movement shooters
Damn... its hard to see Green go. But the writing was on the wall after we got Grimes, who is basically the same player. Dallas is now all in and has (most likely) a 2 year window to win a title. I am just not sure that Klay will start. We do not need offense in the starting lineup. We need a good PoA defender who can provide spacing. But I think Thompson will be the 6th man and either Grimes or Marshall will battle out the 20-25 min starting SF spot. MY money is on Marshall right now, but if Grimes finds his 3P shot that he lost in Detroit, I think he can win that battle at the end of the season.

Cuban letting Nash walk for nothing cost Dirk a couple of titles right there. Then Mark refused to draft Giannis when Donnie Nelson was begging him to do it. Now they let Brunson walk for nothing .... hmmm. A pattern. Of course KP got his ring so there's that.
I hope to GOD that you made a mistake and meant to state another player but to say that Klay's defense is now on par with the defensive trash can THJ, I truly hope that was a mistake because if that the defense we are getting, we're doomed. Klay's defense is nowhere near that bad.

When I think about catch and shoot klay it makes sense but what if you’re behind in the fourth and need stops do we take him off cuz we need his shot dj and green gone hurt me wish it was maxi and Powell but when he hit imma quote the Ali movie / if his mama call him klay imma call him klay all year long just warning yall 😂cook Nico !
Well that’s where Naji and Grimes come in my guy 😂
Wait we lost DJones jr!!
Let’s F’n Go!!!! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎈🎈🎈🎈
Uploads videos while at work, hilarious! Bro we can wait till you get off work, don't get fired.
Never expected klay and kyrie on same teams they were rivals before
Big mistake signing him for 17m a year, 0-10 yeah.
Will Klay be a 30 minute a game 6th man or a starting 3? If Marshal is hitting his threes like last season I can see him starting for us for his defense. But three years for 50 mill is excellent, shows that KT was thinking about winning.
at work always got us covered marcel the GOAT
Klay thompson also allows the offense to become a little more complex as you can have a high pick and roll with a baseline screen action for klay to the other corner or wing. None of our theee point shooter were movement shooters
Klay was prob watching the finals like "Shi, I woulda hit most of those open shots" and came here for it
Who's going to play defense?
Good Job Marcel... I buy some merch.
Clay as a 3rd option!!! Hell YES!!! Way easier looks!!! And the experience!!!
Yes yes yes yes!!!!
Damn... its hard to see Green go.
I think our window is a lot bigger, we have a boat load of good young guys
@@boristeplitskiy7632 Kyrie and Thompson will be at the end of their prime and in 2026 Lukas Super-Supermax will also kick in. So no cp space + most likely 2nd Tax Apron team at that time. Who will be the clear cut Allstar level co Star in 2 years? Yes, we have the young core of talented roleplayers and starters in PJ/Lively/O-Max/Hardy/Gafford/Grimes/Marshall ... but Kyrie will be 34 (with a long list of injuries), Klay 36 (with a long list of injuries) goint into the 2026/27 season. Just look at the age and talent level of the Thunder/Spurs/Rockets... even Jazz and Portland.
Klay is starting. That is why he is here instead of DJJ. Mavs didn't guarantee DJJ a starting role and he dipped for more money. Klay wouldn't choose the Mavs over the Warriors/Lakers if he wasn't going to start. That's NBA BBall politics 101
@@beastscale1892 DJJ earns LESS money in LA... most likely 500k-700k less after taxes. Dont know why? Just look up the California state income tax vs the Texas state income tax and the city specific taxes as well...
And I dont think he will start. Maybe some games, depending on matchups. But I see him as the 6th man and consistent 3rd scoring option off the bench. Means I think he will close more often then start games.
Man I’m gonna miss Josh green and especially djj. It’s really sad we let djj walk
Two of our most athletic players from last year, gone. Gutted. I would love to be proven wrong but I don’t have much faith in an aged Klay tbh
fans happy bout an ultra washed klay lol
Ok stay on it my guy! Hate Josh is moving on to charlotte
Marcel grinding while grinding ?! Respect
Well I’m still worried about the defence but the mavs shouldn’t worry about shooting now because klay is still elite at catch and shooting
Hell yes!!! People have been talking very similar trash about klay as they did Kai when we first got him. I'm excited to see how klay flourishes and gets a second wind here in dallas!! Let's go boys😂
well..... i am surprised! As i said, this deal would destroy our team but, salary-friendly contract and only lost Josh, who i will miss but, for Klay? pretty good swap.... TODAY!.... and i guess we have invested in our future as well so, i can't complain. This is not THE KEY, but it makes us better.....
Nah the guy I made fun of so much for 0-10 is joining g my team 😂😂. Karama mate. But seriously, respect for this guy and hope he can perform for us.
I’ll take Klay over Josh Green. I’ll miss him but MAN. Those open look 3s are gonna be GREEN
My boy hit us from the office! I feel you playa!
Noooooooooooooooooo.
That move will be so detrimental to the team 😭😭😭
Klay is going to come in with his massive ego , horrible shot selection and bad defense.
He'll ruin the chemistry if he doesn't accept a 3rd option role
Klay came and accepted this friendly deal that alone shows he did not come with a huge ego.
I'm confused as to why u always say max and he don't play at all
We got rid of Green, and I am fine with it, but they better not have send either Hardy or Omax.
If Kleber is gone idc, mr pinky toe can be gone for all I care.
Hardy is trash bruh you serious?
@everydayesteban Yes I am serious, Hardy will be a great PG. Just wait and see.
mavs got a second round pick from Charlotte out of the deal too, GS only got one lol.
People acting like this is Klay from 3-4 years ago and not absolutely washed. Terrible signing and I'll be back to say i told you so after he is a bust this year
We need more defense tho.
Joshyy and Flight 55 will be missed! We did improve our roster though!
I like Klay coming off the bench as a 6th man. Pj and DJJ took the best players on Defense. Klay can't do that anymore. Omax or Marshall should take Djs place
Another 3nD guy or a lob threat forward could be good
Them hornets have gotten so many mavs players lol. Sorry to see josh go though. He was a great hustle player and all around great option. Looking forward to klay being a mav though!
Signing Klay is a total gamble, he had his worst and injury prone.
But will see about that
This team is going to be crazy. I'll miss Flight 55 and hustle man green, but this is a crazy group of people.
DLive still here! The other Derrick is gone
@@MavericksDigest Yeah I know, not sure how I managed to write DLive instead of flight 55...
Man who is going to play defense 1-4. The offense will be unstoppable though.
We lost two good pieces and we got an over the hill 0-10 klay 4 fingers thompson. This is not good at all.
None of mags fans forget what happened last game of the season yeah that’s what I thought
State of Taxes goes easier on his taxes, thats why. bank hard in the red state.
hmmmmm...... "Dallas will likely need to make further moves as it currently is over the second apron, per Spotrac... "..... We need another $4M@yr to pay Klay...... who goes next? Powell makes $4M@yr..... so, possibility! This goes deeper than they reported.....
If Cuban hired him long ago and had not interfered with the team, Dirk would have at least two championships
Cuban letting Nash walk for nothing cost Dirk a couple of titles right there. Then Mark refused to draft Giannis when Donnie Nelson was begging him to do it. Now they let Brunson walk for nothing .... hmmm. A pattern. Of course KP got his ring so there's that.
trading josh was a huge L
I’m happy not we got Klay and green gone if we get maxi off this roster idk what I’d do with my self
Holly crap! he needs to start over pj and maybe ppj and him could switch?
Kleber is still on the roaster… Unless Nico has some plans on him
I hope to GOD that you made a mistake and meant to state another player but to say that Klay's defense is now on par with the defensive trash can THJ, I truly hope that was a mistake because if that the defense we are getting, we're doomed. Klay's defense is nowhere near that bad.
Good trade for a pretty reasonable contract. Mavs loaded now
