Great video. Just a thought, you can improve the katana and nextone reverbs drastically by reducing the high-cut to from 4kHz to 2.5kHz, and adding a 80-100ms pre-delay

And get rid of that stock Katana speaker too, i put a Jensen vintage ceramic in my 50w it sounds much cleaner on all phases.

Nice demo and explanations...I like the BC Series more because the Tube Logic moves throughout the entire amp from input to speaker. The cleans on the 60W are pristine.

I really like the concept and structure of the Nextone, (as an in addition to my Kat 100 MK2) I really wanted a "good" tremolo setting on my MK2 100 but have not been able to achieve what I need, in contrast ,the Nextone seems to have that organic sounding tremolo I am after. I think the Nextone sounds fantastic. Seems a bit more basic than the Kat in features but also a bit more refined sounding. The different power amps could be very useful. Just my opinion. Looks nice too!

Great tutorials. Could you explain how to get the Black Sabbath sound on the Katana II on your next video with tone studio? Cheers

Aidil Adha , it’s more than twice the price of the 50watt! Is it worth it? Man... it would have to be much much better. For an old man playing just for himself in the house, it just doesn’t make sense. I have two valve amps that I’m selling and buying a 50watt.

    Great video. Great channel.
If I had one suggestion, it would be to use a humbucker guitar in your demos as well. I know you love Teles, and I love all guitars, but I would bet more people in general play mostly with humbuckers for rock and metal and maybe singke coils for blues, jazz, etc, although there is no hard rule. I just noticed while working in a pawn shop most oeople either bought or sold more humbucker equipped guitars than anything else.
    Great video.
I would love the nextone I think. I may buy one. Love the power tube choice and attenuater. I really love 6v6s and el84s. Probably what I would use most or all of the time along with some pedals.
I have a katana 50mk2 and love it and will even gig with it, but I really hate using an app. I'm an IT guy by trade, but with amps I tend to prefer cord into pedals into amp and adjust to room and go. I'm from the old school though with all tube amps and using the volume knob for lead boosts kr to clean up the signal. Mahbe a wah and a reverb or delay, and maybe a chorus, but not much else. Lately I've been trying to get a good harmonizer sound and I've failed miserably, but I will figure it out. Thanks again.
    Regards from Indiana. 🇺🇸

Thanks for the comment Hoosier, I’m definitely a more single coils type of guy, I’ve just got a new guitar with twin humbuckers I’ll try to feature it in more vids.

Different beasts but both nice amps I found a nextone not able to go as bright as a Katana when I played one if you after a bright tone

I’m not convinced by the nextone . I’ve spent time with it and the output stages all sound exactly the same . The gain sounds are trash for me . The clean sounds a little better than my katana MK2 but it falls apart in every way after that . It’s not an upgrade in my opinion. It feels like a grandpas katana and a one trick pony . I was so excited for this amp ... oh well

I’m sitting here thinking to myself, I just can’t hear a substantial difference.
Not knocking Paul in any way and I may be my earpiece but I just don’t hear anything I like.
I’m also not an expert in the different types of tube amps.
It would be nice to know what a song reference would be for each of the stages, if someone says “This stage is like sweet child of mine” I would know exactly what sound they are talking about, even if I may not pick that sound up from my speakers or earpiece.
      Just saying.
      Great playing as always.

You are correct, I I bought one 2 months ago.
I used to have a Katana a few years ago and it was half the price and way more fun. That amp switch does fuck all, its a overpriced con.

The nextone is cool, but the katana clean as a pedal platform for me is more neutral.

How does the speaker compare to the katana artist

    • @dejct
      @dejct 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Not sure if this helps or is relevant... but i ran my katana 50 into my own cab and it's 100x better. It's clearer, it actually has a bass response, it doesn't flub out, and you can hear actual differences in the distortion pedals. I heard them side by side and the katana speaker sounds like a bad Bluetooth speaker in comparison...
The comparisons I've heard online of speaker swaps don't show much difference so I think the construction of the katana cab contributes the most... I just used a normal guitar jack plug, and connected the two speaker wires, then ran a speaker cable to my cab! It's 8ohm :)

maybe somebody's aske this but are the power tube "models" just EQ curves or are they something more?

They can morph between Class A to class AB using the Bias parameter in the tone editor. It’s a parameter that should’ve been a physical knob. There’s also a Sag parameter which affects the compression. It’s a bit gimicky without the software as the default tones are very similar. That said, the power amp overdrive sounds amazing. The only thing I’m missing about my Mesa Road king is the ability to have per channel selectable power amp wattage for extra headroom on the clean channel.

All I can hear is too much reverb, the power amp settings all sound pretty much the same, nothing that can't be done with a tone control to my headphones. Anyway try switching off the reverb.
