    This video is aimed at people who are relatively new and inexperienced in the credit card game. With the purpose of protecting them from extra fees or paying interest, damaging their credit score. Some people who are more experienced, may disagree with some of the points in this video.

      If you are planning on paying your credit card bill in full each month and as long as you aren't charged any fees (for utility bills for example), can most of these rules be disregarded since the interest would be avoided?

    I understand your point about the recurring payments, but I would have to generally disagree. Recurring payments for things like gym memberships, subscriptions, etc. are one of the things for which I think credit cards are perfect. Gym memberships and other such things are notorious for seemingly unscrupulous billing practices, should you ever decide to cancel whatever service it is. You can read horror story after horror story of people cancelling things only to continue to be charged for them, and this is something that is much easier to resolve with a credit card than say if they had access to a checking account.

      That's because they should contact it from their bank's side. Direct Debits are done with your permission given to your bank. It's all about being vigilant and aware.

    I think you should rename this to "what not to buy on credit for beginners". I put my gym membership, Netflix, internet bill, and etc. I still manage to stay under 30 percent. I have to pay those anyways so it's nice to get rewards in return.

    I think recurring payment is actually great to put on a card if there's no fee. Those are expenses you have to pay anyway, so you might as well get whatever points you'll get from it. Average phone bill is about 55 so in a year 660 points on a 1% or 990 on a 1.5%.

      It is good if you have access to a larger credit line, so there is no risk of pushing you over your credit limit or pushing your utilization too high. We just don't recommend it for beginners

    I agree with most of the reasons you explained but the only times I would use the credit card is like "extreme" situations where you have no access to funds to protect your livelihood. Credit cards got me out of a lot of bad situations. And the other time, which was mentioned, is if you're going to use the credit for a guaranteed cash return or investment.

    One critical piece of information regarding interest free loans for x months (which are commonly offered in furniture stores): the interest is charged RETROACTIVELY for the entire amount if it's not entirely paid off, even if you paid of 99% of the balance. Very dangerous. Save up and pay cash!

      Ramy Majouji if you can't trust yourself or are not responsible enough to take advantage of a great no interest type deal for a certain number of months then you also shouldn't have credit cards period. It's the exact same concept. Anybody with credit cards should be paying them off in full every month, no different then the special financing offers, they just give you more time.

    • @jumpman366
      @jumpman366 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ramy Majouji um how about paying it off then....

    • @stevenmiller7747
      @stevenmiller7747 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yo Yo because if I can make a BIG purchase with 0 percent financing and I'm responsible enough to be in a position where it's not going to hurt my credit utilization then I would be an idiot to "just pay it off" if I can use the money to make even 1% somewhere else. It's simple economics. I'm using their financing to make ME money. And once again, if someone doesn't trust themselves enough to pay it off in full in the specified period of time or they aren't responsible enough to do it, then they shouldn't have credit cards in the first place.

  • @full.grain.
    @full.grain. 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    you can use your credit card to make a down payment on your card if you'd like. only if you have the actual money in your checking account to pay that charge off right when it posts to your credit card account. if you do decide to go with this option make sure the dealership doesn't charge any fees for using a credit card to make a down payment and make sure you actually pay that credit card off when the charge posts.

    Putting recurring payments can be beneficial. American Express notified me when my cable bill went up. Because the recurring payment amount had been consistent, American Express noticed an "unusual activity" when the cable company jacked up the price and notified me. I called the cable company immediately and renegotiated my deal.

    This thumbnail was a little misleading. Buying a car with a credit card would be great. I tried to pay for one with a credit card because $50,000 is a lot of reward miles and I had the cash to pay for the car anyway. Unfortunately, the dealership would only put 5k on the card because of transaction fees cutting into their profit. Better than nothing though.

    I pay my Electric Bill with a credit card, because it's only a $3.50 fee. I just make sure to pay $700+ at a time. Recurring billing also helps me not have to worry about being late, but I always look at my statements. No use paying for services you no longer use.

    Apples payment plan is a Barclays credit card with Apple rewards. They offer 18 months 0% on purchases over $999 I believe. I bought an iMac on one and it's fine. Worst part was it having a high balance for a while but I paid that down quickly and ended up with some extra Apple gift cards pretty fast. Didn't cost me anything over the purchase cost.

She said I could use a credit card. I told her I don't pay the dr bills till I get the bill in the mail. She was terribly frustrated and had to have it then, I said NO, when I get the bill in the mail i will review it and pay it (after it has gone through the insurance co), I pay what is left, Not up front.

  • @Korajiyo
    @Korajiyo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Recurring payments are a great use of credit cards IMO. If your goal is to just build credit you basically put a bunch of subscriptions on the card and get it used automatically to build credit. And ontop of that all your subscriptions appear in a single app on your phone for your credit card, so you can see what you're not using anymore, whereas your bank statements just kind of become a confusing blur of restuarant, subscription, groceries, subscription, other grocery chain.
    The bit about utilities isn't always true either. It's obviously not worth if there is a fee, but there may not even be one.

    As part of a credit repair strategy, I pay for things with my credit card that would not be debt, such as bills I normally paid with my debit card in the past, and pay it all off on the statement date. I still keep it under 30% utilization and my utility company does not charge a fee. This way, I am using my credit card, not incurring debt, not paying interest and improving my credit score month by month. I never ever set up anything auto-pay to the credit card.

    If a beginner or anyone really simply wants to increase their credit score a good way to do so is:
    1. Set up a subscription like Netflix or spotify to charge your credit card.
    2. Take note of the posting date for the charge, the amount posted to include tax, and the statement date for the credit card.
    3. Set up an automatic payment for the exact amount of the subscription plus tax to be paid on your credit card sometime between the statement date and due date.
    4. Don't use your credit card for anything else. You could even hide it in a drawer.
    Do this for several months and your score will definitely increase. I should note this works best if your account balance is at $0 to start. Otherwise the automatic payment might not be enough to cover the minimum due.

    I use my credit card for subscriptions and recurring bills that don't have processing fees because it consolidates the various due dates into one easily managed transaction. It also helps with keeping my checking account statements nice and clean so that oddball transactions (including fraud) are easier to detect.

    It's been over 2 years ago when they did this, today in June 23,2020 Now I'm hearing Paying phone bill, Utility bills, As long as you have good history, it can help your credit. I forgot how they put it in words, but it can now help with your credit.. Like my phone bill is almost $250+ a month, I have been paying on that for almost 7 years. I'm with Sprint and I have 2 brand new phones with extra things,that's why my bill is so high. I'm with DISCOVER, and I don't pay no extre money to either place. So I feel I buy all these extra items and I Pay my bill always on time each month. NEVER LATE. It's a bill that I always pay every month. And I pay always the whole bill off on my discover. Charge it that week, pay it off that week.

      Not all utility companies charge extra fees. Speak with your utility provider regarding reoccurring credit card payments. While my electricity and natural gas provider do not charge extra for credit card payments, water/sewage do.

    Where I live we pay a very low fee for online payment pf bills (like 0.5% maybe?) which is reduced to 0 if dobe through the bank itself (via app for example).
    Financing any item here is free for almost all credit cards (0% intrest, just be on time and you are golden)

    I always try to pay my utility bills with the card. No extra fees and I get cash back. In over 25 years of having CC’s I have never paid a cent in interest to them.

    I only use my card for recurring payments and gas. I have a $750 limit and I pay for Google music $10 a month and then gas is about $150 a month. Then I pay my once a year phone bill for $250. I am well under my limit and I know what I'm going to pay every month. I also use it for emergencies in case I need to buy books for school or something and I don't have cash on me at the moment.

    What about an iPad for college? What if you buy half of it in cash n then the last hundred or so on your credit card? Is that better then putting it all on credit?

    does this apply if you are trying to build credit. Im a college student and is always made sense to me to just pay my rent/utilities with a credit, and everything else with a debt in order to avoid impulse buying, or improper budgeting

    I disagree with the Ez pass or phone bill not being paid via C/C as i have a credit card designate for each: have done it for a couple of years and voila my credit score is currently 811!

    I just bought a new cell phone, I had been paying the bill with a debit card, if I had been paying with a credit card from the same bank I would have had free phone protection, you better believe that bill is on a credit card now.

    My credit card offers me reward point's so i use it for pretty much everything and pay it off every month even though i have 0% on purchases for 30mths(UK Credit Card). After this offer expires I can take out another card with the same provider to take advantage of a similar offer again later on. Paying interest sucks but sometimes it's unavoidable like around Xmas time.....good video

    In regards to that recurring payments, does that include subscriptions like Netflix, HBO, Amazon etc? Because I use a credit card for those but I've always paid it off full. I could easily just pay from my checking but I figured if I can afford it already then why not build my credit while I'm at it and just pay it off as soon as I get my statements. idk just asking
