  • In this video, we will show you how to set up a Siteworks site calibration base and rover using Trimble equipment. Siteworks site calibration is a process of adjusting the coordinates of a GNSS receiver to match the coordinates of known control points. This is important for ensuring that your GNSS measurements are accurate.
    To set up a Siteworks site calibration base and rover, you will need the following equipment:
    * A Trimble GNSS receiver for the base and rover
    * A Trimble machine kit for the rover (optional)
    * A Trimble data collector
    * A Siteworks software license
    Once you have all of your equipment, follow these steps to set up the site calibration:
    1. *Set up the base receiver.* Place the base receiver on a known control point and turn it on.
    2. *Set up the rover receiver.* Place the rover receiver in a location where you want to collect data and turn it on.
    3. *Connect the rover receiver to the data collector.*
    4. *Open the Siteworks software on the data collector.*
    5. *Create a new site calibration project.*
    6. *Select the base and rover receivers in the Siteworks software.*
    7. *Start the site calibration.*
    8. *Collect data at a minimum of five control points.*
    9. *Once you have collected data at all of the control points, stop the site calibration.*
    10. *Review the site calibration results.*
    If the site calibration results are satisfactory, you can accept the results and use the calibrated coordinates for your GNSS measurements.
    Here are some additional tips for setting up a Siteworks site calibration:
    * Use a tripod and stakes to secure the base and rover receivers.
    * Make sure that the base and rover receivers have a clear view of the sky.
    * Avoid setting up the base and rover receivers near trees, buildings, or other obstructions.
    * Collect data at the control points for at least five minutes.
    * Review the site calibration results carefully before accepting them.

    I have a question…lets say my site got bigger and throughout the project I added more control points throughout the site. Is there a way to continue a site cal or add to the site cal? Is there a video i can find that will show me how to add points to the site cal? Thank you.

      You cannot add to the original site calibration you do for a site. Once it’s finished it’s done. You can add new control points from the current job site you have and do a new site calibration , but you don’t want to recalibrate after a lot of work has been done already because that work may not match. If you’re job site did not get too much bigger than the original one, you may still be ok to do that work even if it is outside the current job site boundary.

    Thanks for the video! One question: During my last site calibration, I accidentally hit “No” when prompted to “Save the Base Point as a Control Point with coordinates/elevation”, because my Data Collector started lagging and I started tapping too quickly before the screen could refresh. Is there a way to go back and save the Base Post as a Control Point, or will I need to run the entire site calibration again? Thanks.

      You don’t have to do the whole site calibration again, but since you said no it just means there is no control point created where your base is set up. Your base will continue to remember that spot until you move it somewhere else and then bring it back. If auto base is on it will remember, but with auto base off you will have to tell it that it’s in that location again and that’s where it will be a problem. You can simply put your up on a tripod over one of the control points you used from the calibration and then tell it it there, then put your rover receiver on the base pole that it was on and measure it as a control point to create that point, then move the base back to that spot and tell it’s there. Either way, not all is lost.

      @@JeffLarsen-iz8qk I’ll give it a shot. Thanks for the response!

    Question, when would you select "measure to APC?" I have notice in our 750 it states APC, but it is on a pole as you have shown. Could this cause an issue?

      Where is this you are saying it asks for APC. I am just not understanding when you are seeing this and for what need. If it is a brand new job site you can just set the base as unknown position and the vertical height as 0 and it will create a control point for the pole when the calibration is done.
