I hunt with and use both everyday. I absolutely think these are the top 2 by far. On that note, sitka is still superior imo. First lite has better base layers, sitka has better outer wear and definitely better camo patterns as well as rain gear. First lite needs to up their game and add wind stopper to the lineup if they want to be on that level
I went the Sitka route and my best friend is a First Lite guy. We always chat about them and agree they are probably the top two companies. It seems like the Sitka products are more "mature" in their development
Sitkas gradient fleece lined pants and heavy merino base layers make FL’s base layers look like an amazon knockoff. But they are better than wal-mart. Lol
I started with FL. Limited sizes. Sizes not being consistent from garment to garment made me try Sitka. I haven’t looked back. Sitka has a more variety of sizes that are consistent from garment to garment and I was surprised how much warmer they were compared to comparable FL gear. I still have my FL glove liners, balaclava and a couple of thermal base layers.
First Lite’s merino stuff wears out very quickly especially if you wear a pack. Any rub areas will develop holes quickly. Abrasion from brush will start the fibers to pull apart as well.
Love my First Lite stuff! I had the same issue with sizing. Once hunting expos start back up id highly recommend going to one if First Lite is there. Literally try on every piece and take notes of the sizes you wear. I wear mediums in all the base layer merinos but a small in all the outers. I just got both of the new Foundry pants and I’m super impressed with the updates they made.
@@case8987 No I had to go smaller. I wear a 30x34 normally. Tried to make the 32x32 work and they were GIGANTIC parachute pants on me. Returned them for the 30x30 and they fit. I wear 2xl in shirts....just ordered a Furnace 1/4 zip top, and a Furnace long John bottom for base layers to use during Pennsylvania Rifle Season (Buck), also a orange Furnace beanie. IMHO Merino is the best of the wool 🦙 , now some would argue Alpaca is....my experience with Merino over 30 years of wearing merino wool....it's soft so you don't itch, it's durable....the best. I am hoping First Lite is a step up from Sitka.... I have a Sitka Core top....it isn't long enough in the sleeves has a more athletic fit and after using for three seasons....it's a little itchy and gets pick loops from briars too easily Flat seams are great though.

Well, if you wear wool on the outside of your person it will get damaged far easier than a synthetic material. Wool by nature will wear more quickly, hence it’s mostly useful as a base layer. Sitka is mostly synthetic so it’s no wonder it’s more durable. The first lite base layers I have are 95% wool. If they want to make it more durable they would simply have to add more synthetic fibers to the end product. I hope they don’t.

To each there own. I tried FL and thought it was horrible. Everything stuck to the pants. The boxers had a hole through them after only wearing a couple times. Then i called customer service and they said i would need to send them into them to look at instead of just sending a picture. They looked way to thin to me in the first place. I prefer Sitka and Kuiu over FL. Again this is my opinion and results with it.
So far for us, from Arizona mule deer to turkey season we haven’t had any problems. The real test will be elk and deer season but the pieces that we are running for elk and deer I feel like that should do good, guess we will see.
To save everyone 11:24 sec. They only like FL over Sitka because of the fit. Nothing about quality and durability in the field. Real experiences in weather. I’m glad they found the gear and yes fit and comfort are important. But unlike the title says this isn’t “ everything you need to know.”
It’s actually everything you need to know if you make the switch far as what pieces match up, sizing, and how it fits, if you are wanting to buy FL and you are coming from Sitka. Far as quality and durability, this is an old video and we have now killed a pile of animals and been on a pile of hunts in FL. Just spent 25 days in elk camp in it.
I have thought about trying out first lite but can’t bring myself to break away from Sitka yet for this reason right here. I can find a bunch of sales and deals on Sitka gear because they sell through different sites and stores where FL you can only order from their site. 90% of all my Sitka gear has been bought anywhere from 25%-75% off on sale or close out deals. Would love to try some different things for whitetail and turkey hunting that are light weight because it gets stupid hot down here in the southeast but I just don’t want to spend full price on things.
So FL actually just had a huge sale on the site it was way cheaper than what you can get Sitka for. We purchased most of our Sitka through the years either used or on FB groups. If you are just wanting to try out some FL pieces normally you can find it like 40% off or more on the FB groups.

Your hands experience sounds like mine in the sense you never can get someone on the phone at Sitka. Now with FL it’s every time I have called they answer. Everything I buy I buy from black Ovis, great people over there.
I agree, the North Branch line was well thought out and overdeveloped to meet every need a hunter might run into. I had a pair and sent them back for repairs a few months ago. First lite doesnt do repairs, they replace. With that said, they gave me the equivalent which wasnt close. First Lite is a great company so they took the garment back and gave me store credit for other needs. I ended up purchasing a pair off Facebook from a guy on the First Lite page. They are great. Now I am looking for a second North Branch jacket for every day use in a solid color. The rest of their equipment is great but I agree, the North Branch was a home run.

First lite, Sitka, and Kuiu is still the best 3 in the game, all of them have pieces that are better than others.
Don’t be offended it’s just clothes 😂.
Why? Sponsorship?
Yeah was and have been paying for Sitka and just can’t afford to buy camo and hunt more to keep creating content.would not believe how much we have spent out of our own pockets for content.
We actually was offered sponsorship from other camo companies just felt FL was the only one that was on par with Sitka.
if you need somewhere to sent the skita stuff you can send it to mee
Lord no sold it all and made money 😂. That is the good thing about high end camo, you can sell it for about what you pay after wearing it a few years.
@@UnGuidedOutdoors it's like gold it never depreciates
You can roll your jackets and put them in there own pocket
Seems insanely noisy
Most of it sounds incredibly loud.
No problems killing elk with it on, and the whitetail stuff is quiet.
@@UnGuidedOutdoors I bet ! Good fundamentals are more important than expensive gear; you guys could wear flannel and board shorts. I just want better clothing options for the price tags.
Very expensive for made in China
Of course you did. Why wouldn't you it's the fresh new kicks on the hunting block just like Sitka was. Stop TH-camN your justification and just follow the followers. I'm willing to bet the farm on it ya'll was saying the same thing about sitka 3 year's ago.
Lol you lost that farm, was wearing Sitka back before they had their own pattern. Sitka is awesome gear no doubt, we never said it wasn’t, we however swapped to FL found out some sizing and differences that we noticed and made a video on it. Honestly had no idea feelings would get hurt or that someone cared what we choose to wear.
What do you wear buddy?
First lite is against the 2nd amendment and predator hunting supports the the left side. Why support first lite ???
Really?!? Can you show us this because we have no idea about it.
Where are your references to validate your claim.
Seems to be like these dudes aren't "experts" by any means...lolol
Far from it!
The camo is so ugly
Don't waste your money on firstlite , don't get caught up in the hype. Washed it four times still stinks like raw sewage when wet even made my other marina wool shirt stink, worst thing No response from first light after several emails .
