- It's time to take some of our precious honey of the hives and in this video we show you how we use a Rhombus clearer board to easily remove bees from honey boxes or supers.

Great video Stewart. I was able to easily understand the procedure.
Thanks. Very informative.
Hi. Great video, thanks! I would like to switch from the round yellow Lega to the Rhombus. I have to make new clearer boards and drill holes. Do you know what size of hole works best. I heard that bigger 8 - 10 cm doesn't work as good as small 2 - 3 cm ones. It would be nice if you could help me out. Cheers!
do you clean your extractor for each hive harvest?
ha Stewart when u add your boxes do u add all 3 at one time , do you check them and rotate them or just leave them till the honey season is finished, do u do hive inspections when there is a honey flow. thanks for all the bee videos and the help
Hi Frances,
We have a crop called Oil Seed Rape here in the UK (produces canola oil?) in the Spring it produces a heavy flow of nectar if conditions are right and for that I put three supers on strong colonies all at the same time. Once this is extracted and for the rest of the Summer I add supers as they are filled one at a time.
Yes I inspect once a week minimum through the active season.

Hi Stewart. I put on porter clearer board yesterday morning. I have it on properly as far as I can see from looking it up on line. There are a lot of bees still in the supers. It's very wet here now so what should I do. I was thinking of buying rhombus escapes but would the bees be OK with the porter escape in situ until I get them in 2 or 3 days?
Hi. Great videos... Thanks.Do you mean that after extracting you return the 3 empty super boxes to the hive? What's the reason for this please?
Hi SUe,
thanks for commenting.
Yes I return the wet supers back to the hives they came from and put them above the crownboard. The bees in the hive then go up into the supers and clean them spotlessly so they become dry supers, afterwhich I remove them and store for use next Spring.

The Norfolk Honey Company ah yes ... good idea. Ill do that. Thanks. I hope youre backs on the mend.
hi where is best place to buy new hive .I am interested to start bee keeping
Hi Stewart, I don't understand why you put the clearer board back on the hive after removing the supers for extraction. Would you explain please? ;)
Hi Lisa,
Beneath the clearer board will be all of the bees from the supers that have been cleared so if I remove it there will be a lot of bees clustered to the underside that would then be disturbed. When I return the supers having extracted I remove the clearer board.

Sir I need your beekeeping experience because here (india) is very hot weather.
If you remove all of the honey what stores do the bees have?
There were stores in the brood chamber I believe, if not then a super of stored should be left to overwinter.
Hello great video. But harvesting in the rain is not recommended as lots of moisture will go into honey and hive
