Knock Three Times
Tony Orlando & Dawn
Lyrics: Irwin Levine / Larry Russell Brown
Hey girl, what ya doin' down there?
Dancin' alone every night
While I live right above you
I can hear your music playin'
I can feel your body swayin'
One floor below me
You don't even know me, I love you
Oh, my darling, knock three times
On the ceiling if you want me
Hmm, twice on the pipe
If the answer is no
Oh, my sweetness
Means you'll meet me in the hallway
Oh, twice on the pipe
Means you ain't gonna show
If you look out your window tonight
Pull in the string with the note
That's attached to my heart
Read how many times I saw you
How in my silence I adored you
And only in my dreams did
That wall between us come apart
Oh, my darling, knock three times
On the ceiling if you want me
Mmm, twice on the pipe
If the answer is no
Oh, my sweetness
Means you'll meet me in the hallway
Whoa, twice on the pipe
Means you ain't gonna show
Oh, I can hear the music playin'
I can feel your body swayin'
One floor below me
You don't even know me, I love you
Oh, my darling, knock three times
On the ceiling if you want me
Oh, twice on the pipe
If the answer is no
(I love you, I love you, I love you)
Oh, my sweetness
Means you'll meet me in the hallway
Mmm, twice on the pipe
Means you ain't gonna show - บันเทิง

Me!
I am, 6th April
Right here 🙋♂️
I am April 13th
16th April 😂
It was a warm 1971 morning although I was young at the time I still remember crusing down to the beach in my uncles truck hearing this song on the road here in Samoa I miss him fond memories of him and my aunty dancing in the kitchen
I love reading stuff like this. I wasnt even alive in '71 (I was born in '88). When people share memories like this it feels like I live through them for a moment.
You brought tears to my eyes. Back in the 70's music made us smile and brought everyone together for great times. I smiled so much more back then compared to today. Today it's about who's car can make the ground shake. That's not music. That's noise.
Thank you so much for sharing your special memory with all us 😢♥️ God bless you today my friend 😌

The first ever days I used to listen to these beautiful lyrics were the mid seventies when I still had been a school boy in my teens. Ever since they enliven my soul whether I am in a jovial or pensive mood. I think these lines are of eterna sense fainting l beauty.
My mom passed away a week ago. This was one of her favorite songs. 💙

@@BurnCensorship look up 70s to 90s songs
Many of us grew up listening to songs like this when the music was quite enough to hear the words. And if you was at a concert you could still actually hear when it was over.
Same
That's awesome! ✨❤️
I love this song - it takes me back to when I was a kid.
Loved this song growing up, my mother sings it to the grandchildren every chance she gets. 🥰

I was a 10 year old girl
This lovely song reminded me of my active youth when every Sunday I used to attend a music club called "The Overseas" in Valletta. (I am Maltese and Valletta is the capital of Malta). This song was played on the jukebox every Sunday and after 40 years or so, I still remember the tune and the lyric. Oh.. how years pass by but memories remain and never fade away.
I am Maltese too and this song was the best song ever I listened to it every Sunday with my grandma and we just sang and danced to it
The magic of good music, the memories
my mom was a fan of this song when I played this song my parents actually started dancing around the kitchen!
Rylosalex That's how I learned of this song, too, was through my parents.
Yeah....now that i think about about it the music that our parents listened to.....ROCKED!!
@@Rylosalex
Rylosalex, that was my era. The music then was beautiful, tasteful music. My 23 year old loves the so-called "oldies but goodies". I just think of this era's music as the classics.
I loved and still remember every song she played by every singer
my family growing up would sing along to this and other songs.
Back when your mom had Tupperware parties the am radio playing in the background those were the days!!!!

Happy 50th anniversary to this wonderful hit of Tony Orlando and Dawn’s! It was right around this time 50 years ago when it was first released(its January 2021 as I comment). It made the top ten songs of 2021, together with Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves(Cher), Joy to the World(Three Dog Night), and Maggie May(Rod Stewart).
Thanks for sharing the titles of these great songs from the last century. The best music ever. Lots of memories from my youth.
Good Times, and good songs!
I heard this song in passing the other day and it has been playing in a loop in my head ever since. 46 years since it was released and I still remembered every word. Thanks for posting.
The beat and rythm remember "Candida" !

This makes me feel happy to hear, especially nowadays. Thanku for bringing me joy & love😘😍🥰💖💖💖
This song feels more powerful now when I listen to it than when I heard it growing up in the 70’s.
Actually really think it’s a cool song and back then it felt ok and very recognizable but just feels stronger now with the beats and lyric’s.
I was watching now and then. I just fell in love with this song
My Dad used to play this all the time in the car. I remember that look he would give me lol. Like this is great music look!
So adorable! Thanks for posting! I remember this song when I was little and I used to dance and sing with it....well ..I still do! And I always wished I had a secret admirer like that. I would have definitely knocked three times!
Thats awesome!!! Had it on an LP when I was nine. Still love it 🙂
Tony Orlando and Dawn were great singers.
Not sure how this blast from the past got in my head, commercial? Anyhow, I couldn't recall the lyrics correctly I was so young when I heard this song and now I've got them. I didn't recall the intro at all, just the hook.
Just heard this again yesterday. I can't believe how happy it made me.
it's 2017 the song is timeless

I am from Penang, West Malaysia and I love
this song very much. Made me recall my younger days.
Even Tony was singing, but there an emotional going out through your heart.
Sounds like Tony was social distancing back in the seventies. He was ahead of his time!
Nope he just had a unique way of asking her out!!!
See he got the girl👀✌🏻
Yessss It sure did hit # 1.in 1970....Oh Yeaaa I remember so well this song was sooo fine..... What a dancing song right here.....
another great song thank you Cynthia
Thanks Peter....
Number 1 in 1971, not 1970. Time plays tricks on the mind, doesn't it?
Yes, I am. Nearly 66 years old and still remember this tune from my growing up days😅.
I L.O.V.E the Maxican/latin vibe of these DAWN songs, so full of life and optimism, similar in style to the Tom jones Engelbert stuff from the late vibrant 60s such as - help yourself, a man without love, Quando, new Mexican puppeteer etc
Man i tell you my grandma is mexican as hell but she loves this song , she said the first time she heard it back then was when this guy used to sing it to her when she was in her teens 😂💕
Still listening in 2023🎉
Smiled hearing this in the Many Saints of Newark
The best year in my life, we will go dancing to Tony Orlando's music, thank you for the music video.

This song was my favorite back in 1970. I was 9 y/o. My father was in the army..We were stationed in Ausburg Germany. My dad would take me with him to the NCO club.. He would give me a quarter and say "Here, go play your "Knock Three Times 😊 ". I'm 62 now and will go to my grave still only listening to the music from the 70's and 80's.
Oh my when I saw this song . I haven't heard it in a long time. I couldn't believe it. I love it so much. Such a great song 🎵 ❤️ 👏 ❤

memories from a distant past oh how lovely they were
This is our song my husband and I lol we grew up in the same co-op building for almost 50 years and both our parents still live there. After our 30s we started creeping around at night and they would wonder where was he going without a coat and in sandals lol he would tell me he could hear my music throughout the day and started to knock with excuses of a leak and now we have 11 years married and share beautiful kids. We love each other so much. I love this song cause we can relate
