It turned out magnificent. I would suggest using a glass roof on the ground for the basement. I did a tutorial a few years ago for glass roofs. That will allow light down and even create shadows and sunlight patterns in the basement. I've built an entire venues in basements that are flooded with light by using roofs on the ground over basements. The only drawback is that Sims can't walk on it obviously, but it looks fantastic.

Really love your builds. When you said you were a linguist my hubby piped up "but I'm a cunning linguist"!!!! and my drink came out my nose :) You do bring out the cheeky in all of us but please keep plonking and wiffling on.
It's coming along really pretty! One suggestion I have would be, and I'm not sure if it's possible, but usually when they remove a wall between two buildings, they keep an arch or column to sustain the ceiling of both buildings. But if it's not possible to achieve in game, it would be fine without it too.

There is a yoga object that is an instructor yoga mat and it will add game play because an actual sim will show up and conduct classes that you can join and I think it would be perfect for up stairs! I had no idea it was a thing for so long and I was so happy when I found it lol
OH MY GOD Barry Trotter!! I've bought a Barry Trotter book and it was hilarious!! So: I'm the kind of weirdo that goes to bookstores and stays there for a couple of hours, reading the back covers and the titles, just to choose ONE book. Be sure that I would plant my self in this bookstore for days!!!

You could just place the stairs to the 2nd level of the yoga studio over the other stairs. Saves some space and looks nice as well. ;)

The weird flickering mess of the banisters is why I tend to put walls on both sides of my staircases...
