Great shots. I have a hard time getting that nice blue color of the water. Could be the visibility down here at the moment. You just bump the f stop up nice and high while going for lens flare shots?
This is really super nicely done! I didn't realize GH5 could look this good underwater. White balace is excellent and I understand that is the key. Did you leave your lenses on autofocus?
Thanks! Yeah, I'm always on auto focus. I actually need to start working on my focus lock and manual focus. The GH5 tends to hunt sometimes with auto focus.
For WA I have the Olympus 8mm, for Macro the Olympus 60mm. On my last trip to the philippines I started also shooting my 12-35mm Lumix. I really liked that one for certain applications, like when using lights.
Absolutely stunning footage and very nicely edited. I’ve been filming underwater for several years now and I’m very excited to be picking up my GH5 today. I’ve watch countless dive footage taken with GH5’s and even though they’ve been excellent quality, nothing comes close to watching your video on my 4K TV. I was speechless watching those Nurse sharks, as the resolution was unbelievably pin sharp. If there ever was a reason and excuse to upgrade my video camera, it was after watching your video!!! Thank you so much for posting it. My dive housing arrives in a few days time, so I’ll be good to go by next weekend. Could you please help me by letting me know what were your camera settings? i.e. what 4K settings did you use? Was it aperture priority to get the deep depth of field? Which focus settings did you use? What lens did you use? Did you use a red filter, or customise the WB in the camera? How did you set the WB? Plus any other info/settings that would help me. Thank you. I hope you can find the time to respond, as you’ve truly inspired me to take my videography to the next level. 😃😃😃
Thanks Steve! There's a bit of a learning curve as far as settings, but I was able to gather enough info prior to my dive. If there's anything I can assist with just shoot me a line on Facebook or here.
Hi Gregory, thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Just picked up my GH5 and the battery is charging. I do already know a lot about the ins and outs of the GH5, plus the work-around with the autofocus issues. For the moment, is there any chance you could answer the following questions? what 4K settings did you use? Was it aperture priority to get the deep depth of field? Which focus settings did you use? What lens did you use? Did you use a red filter, or customise the WB in the camera? How did you set the WB? Plus any other info/settings that would help me. Thank you. All the best, Steve
Settings - 4k 8bit 60fps e-stabilization - on shutter angle 120-179 (I used 160) Single area focus Cinelike-D Aperture priority Lenses - Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro Micro 4/3 Lens and Olympus M.Zuiko 8mm f/1.8 Fisheye Pro Lens I only used red filter on my last day. It did help at depth. In this vid the opening seascapes are @ 65-75'. Magic filter taped on back of lens, which means you're commited. I had no issues though. With manual WB even on the surface it would compensate for the red filter. Which leads us to WB. I used a white slate, the sand, and a friends white fins at time...LOL. with 4 custom WB setting slots I would typically do 60', 50', 40' and then one for exact depth on each dive
Thanks Gregory, that's really helpful. I've always used a red filter before, but was wondering whether the GH5 could go without. Looking forward to having a play. Thanks again!! All the best, Steve
Hi Gregory, Sorry to bother you again, but I've hit a dead-end and would appreciated your assistance. To change the shutter angle, synchro scan needs to be turned on. The only way I can turn this on in exposure mode is to select Speed or Manual priority, but not Aperture priority. As soon as I set the exposure mode to aperture priority it doesn't let me turn on synchro scan. I'm just wondering how you've managed it? Thanks Gregory.
That looked amazing! Some of those shots were worthy of Blue Planet 2! I just received my GH5 today and my housing next week, hoping I can get equally fantastic shots in Bonaire. Mind if I ask what lens & settings you were shooting on? I have so many questions :) don't know where to start, or is there a site somewhere where you can learn to White-balance like that? Keep it up! Amazing footage!
Tim, sorry it took me this long to get back to you. Have you made your Bonaire trip yet? Still have questions? Just give me a shout on Facebook or here.
Thanks!! The Majority is no light, no filter. I do use a filter on some of the deeper footage on my last day. From 8:55 to 9:34 is about 68'-75' with filter.
You should keep making these beautiful works.
What an amazing video!
Fantastic work! Absolutely Beautiful.
Great shots ..
Love diving in Cozumel - this video was a nice reminder
what kind of objectives did you use ?
Nice shots!
Thank you sir! I must admit, when I first started researching the GH5 It was your Gh5 work that helped inspire me! Awesome stuff!!
Very kind of you :-)

Yes. The sensor handles it pretty well with the GH5. Usually I'm using my 8mm and am at 22f
Amaizing. So vivid, smooth, stable and crisp footage. Can't wait to ditch gopro and take my gh5 under water. What housing did you use?
Nauticam housing. 8mm WA lens and the Olympus 60mm macro

Stunning captures there!
What lenses do you have paired with the GH5 for this?
For WA I have the Olympus 8mm, for Macro the Olympus 60mm. On my last trip to the philippines I started also shooting my 12-35mm Lumix. I really liked that one for certain applications, like when using lights.
Are these clips color graded at all?
Just minimal Final cut pro adjustments.
