They tried this waaaay back. They proposed increasing mats to 5 each. The forum masochists went nuts about it, and they lowered it to the 3 we have now.
Any gameplay mechanic that pushes the majority of players into finding and using cheese-mechanics is poor gameplay design. They should have bumped this up a long time ago and they still need to do a 10x bump on most of the credit rewards.
I think every change you outlined here is positive. Anything that gets closer to "play the game how YOU want to play" is a good thing. Now hopefully we continue to see the upswing in engaging content. Also eager to see what PP 2.0 has in store... Thanks and o7 Ric, appreciate the content and analysis.
This might be the thing that brings me back. Just finished grinding fed rank to finally unlock the last few ships and with this engineering the corvette might be bearable.
having stopped doing nights and now working days don't have as much time to hunt down matts this will help me a lot . so im now going to wait until the update before i do anymore .great vid chap o7
Im glad to see it. I played elite when it first came out. Was just dusting off my Hotas and setting my new computer up to play it again. So happy for the changes. Lot to learn. Its like a new game.
I haven't played ED in about 4 years. And before then, it had been years. Even though I was there for the Kickstarter hype between ED and SC, I'm still pretty new. Never got elite in anything. But now I'm back, rerolled my account, and want to hit triple elite in a Cobra mk3. Gonna need engineering pretty QUICK!
I didn't really have a problem with the amount of "grinding", but rather the gameplay you'd get out of the stuff you gathered. I spend hours tracking down stuff and then, when it comes to using it, it's gone in an instant. All that time investment and all I get is 30 minutes of bars going up - sometimes full, sometimes not. And then they added more rolls per pickup. That is technically what i wanted, but not what I wanted. Now they're adding even more rolls and I wonder, if I am just not getting it. I want the time spent to be worth it. It is still not worth it, because I don't play Elite to see bars go up longer or higher. Do you play Elite to see bars go up? Since then I have adopted a more opportunistic play style - like jumping into Signal Sources, when they are easy. Or I check for missions with desirable rewards. Never had to "grind" since then. Furthermore, if people make a choice for themselves it is a way more powerful decision, than a decision made out of norm. Engineering is in many cases a norm. People are more willing to put up with burden or hardship, if it's THEIR OWN choice - not a norm imposed by the environment. Another conflicting part of engineering is, that it doesn't make sense! This guy asks me for something that is supposed to be very easy to get, like Nickel. Really? I can literally buy dangerous chemicals, but Nickel?! And how do I "lose" or "consume" or "use" data? It's like the concept of copying data doesn't exist. It works just like a physical consumable item. In the real world you go to the most reputable guy to get your modifications done. In Elite you have to "earn" reputation with them first. Or maybe that's just the end state of hyper capitalism. It would make sense, if the engineers had something like a permanent community goal, where your personal upgrades contribute to making those upgrades easier to obtain over time for everyone. So, if you wanted to stay ahead of everyone, you would literally have to stay ahead of everyone - ultimately making it your own choice, rather than the expectation. That would also solve power creep and a barrier to entry for new people. A good solution would be a passive generation of progress. You'd make trade contracts, build bases, hire mercenaries, offer services, interact with the world even when offline and then the rewards would come in gradually over time in the form of reputation, money, materials, ranks, unlocks and opportunities. Setting up a mining base would be the equivalent of the hours of grind, but with more gameplay. Then Nickel would be easy to get after all, but you're also getting a whole lot of other stuff too!
The only issue with mission's offering material's is, if you only need say 10 to fillout a particular mat selection, and the mission is given more than ten, you get none.
I'm at a point where upgrading suits has been a pain. I'll go hard for a week working on suits and weapons, but have to take a couple weeks away from the grind and do something else in the game. Engineering unlocks for on-foot has also been a bit of a pain at times. I'm looking forward to the change...less grind, more fun times. :)
Beset thing is the rolls being addressed. Was hoping for them to mention offering the asset materials as mission rewards for an alternative to just looting which gets quite repetitive. Think that the settlements might contain more materials. Otherwise I don't see why you would need to double up the backpack capacity. Capacity mod on a maverick suit would make the assets top out at 120 assuming it still doubles it. Even filling up on data at a settlement is very uncommon. Maybe they will cut back on the useless data spawn rates. If they are going to make it "rain" this much then I kind of think increasing the max ship storage is needed. Looks like still ignoring the community about the suit and weapon mods being permanent. I still say scrap the odyssey engineering and apply the same philosphy as ship building to suits and weapons.
I wonder if they have increased the instances of particular missions great getting offered 15 manufacturing instructions but a mute point if still struggling to find a mission giving manufacturing etc. which is ehat i find 🤔
You really caught my heavy ear when you said, increase Artemis suit capacity! I hope they do something with that suit, Damit! Option polls I am stuck at 9 so, this will be nice. Been trying to unlock Kitt for a bit.
They changed the randomness of the original system in that you can't go backwards, rolls could only progress towards 100%. But the amount of that progression was random.
Have they mentioned the total storage limits for on foot stuff, its currently a total by type, we need total per item. Ive been full and had to throw loads of on foot materials away before now
They should have done this years ago, their player base would be much higher. Grind is ok, you grind in your daily life to save up for that car etc etc, so there's a grind to everything,... BUT, that said, there's a fine line as to when it's waaaay too much and the old way of grinding in this game was waaay to much and habitually fine line stepping.
@@GenX80sKid it’s hard to get people into this game when they need to basically work a second job to get to the “fun” content. even worse when that grind has you completely isolated from everyone else. we need a 100 Ly general chat tab lol
This is all well and good, but I know for a fact they won't bump up the material availability for Horizons only players. There's absolutely no reason they can't tweak the drop rates in that version of the game. Knowing this, I went ahead and finished up what I have access to with my Corvette last night. I'm still lacking G5 with armor and shield boosters/banks. Either way, that was an enormous grind to get to that point. Thankfully my materials are/were in pretty good shape from mostly passive collection, but I'd rather do it 10x faster if I could. Speaking of which, I got the shaft on some of those module rolls, it'd be nice if we could get that linear progression too. I did two identical modules, and one of them took like 9 or 10 more rolls than the other did, kind of frustrating. The game basically threw me a bone and did one module with the minimum requirements but it punished me by making the second one take the maximum amount of materials.

I really don't think they gonna add anything that would excuse to deepen the pockets. Also - backpack engineering is now pretty useless. 60 is good enough for regular material run. It's just lazy attempt to bring back players that don't enjoy grind. More space, more materials, lower price of upgrading modules. This is why I wouldn't call it "rebalance" of engineering. Because STATS of engineered modules didn't change - or at least they didn't say anything about that.
