    There are many distortion techniques available in Illustrator with which to manipulate vector artwork. However, it's not always desirable to permanently distort the original graphic. The option "Envelope Distort - Make with Top Object" allows for a vector shape to distort another object by making it conform to it's size. This process is non-destructive and can be easily released at any point.

    This is BRILLIANT! This will help me at work, where I have to sometimes wrap graphics around cylindrical shapes for trade show structures. Before this, I would have to rasterize the graphic, then use Object/Envelope Distort/Make with Mesh. Question: Is it possible to do this without rasterizing? I'd would like to keep the distorted images live so that they automatically update if the graphics change. Thank you very much for sharing, instant Sub!

    • @MichaelBullo
      @MichaelBullo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you and great to hear. If you are wanting to wrap live graphics around a cylinder you might want to look into 3D within Illustrator. I don't have a video on this but the video below is a good demo...
      Cylinder Warped Graphics • Adobe Illustrator Tutorial
      th-cam.com/video/ymHXypEfeZs/w-d-xo.html
      Be aware that 3D has been dramatically updated in the latest version of Illustrator. If you like the old way of doing things you can access them from the menu...
      Effect > 3D and Materials > 3d (Classic)
      Hope that helps and thanks for the sub.

    i know this is an old video, but is there anyway for you to make a video about using text envelop distort with more complex objects. I have yet to figure out how to get it clean. It seems to do whatever it wants.

      Can you get it to work if you use a really simple example? Can you get my example to work with a single word inside of a circle? Once you've got a simple example working, start to increase the complexity of the elements involved. Hopefully you'll be able to then work out what kind of element you are using that is preventing the effect from working. Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

      it'll work with a circle. The shape I'm trying to use is a rectangle that is concave on top and bottom so the text will be fat on the ends and narrow in the middle.
