    OK they skipped that part where they helped her get over the fear, now I need that information because I am trying to get over my fear and I can't just go tracing off to the UK and getting on some tv show to get help, tell me how she did it!!!

    The Speakmans are magicians!
    I'm exactly the same. I have a terrible fear of house spiders but I've owned a pet tarantula as a kid. What causes my fear was moving into a house with a forest in the back garden as a kid. I was about 5 at the time a sleeping in my mums room until my room gor painted.
    We both woke up one morning with webs all over out faces, the spider was still on mine. That was terrifying. There was webs all over the walls and sinks and floor. Throughout the day my mum and her boyfriend caught over 20 giant house spiders.
    I needed to sleep at my Grans for a while after that.

    I so wish I could be as calm as her. I’m not as frightened as she was before but if I see a house spider it makes my heart race and I feel panicky. I think for me the fear is of the crawling and the thought of them being on me. I’m very ticklish and being tickled makes me panicky so I’m wondering if this is related. I know they don’t want to touch me but I’ve found spiders on my bed before so how can I get over the fear of them touching me? I’m even sensitive to having loose hairs on my skin so how can I undo the fear of tickling and insects/spiders touching me?

    • @nikandevaspeakman
      @nikandevaspeakman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That does sound incredibly likely to be linked. Potentially if you address and overcome your issue about being tickled, the spider phobia could pass too however we do have an in-depth arachnophobia blog on our website too www.speakman.tv Hope it helps x

    If you are an arachnophobic it’s easier to accept your phobia like me and take precautions like barricading the house

    very interesting to watch, she is very brave, I have quite the fear of spiders I recently got past the fear of daddy long legs (cellar) spiders as I know they can't bite you, and I can handle them and remove them, but the second I see any other kind of spiders near me I have heart palputations, I literally go white start sweating, I can be far away from them but if they are close to me, I fear removing them with paper and cup etc, I fear being bitten by them or them crawling on me.

    • @tonistephens1801
      @tonistephens1801 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m the same☹️ I think if I knew for certain that they don’t bite, I could work on myself to get to a level of coping with them but until then, no hope.

    • @nikandevaspeakman
      @nikandevaspeakman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      All spiders can bite, but most can’t even penetrate our skin. However the truth is that NO spider would bite unless it felt threatened. They are very peaceful, and just wish t be left alone. They do not recognise you at all as anything other than a surface or threat/predator so they only ever want to get away from you. Your heightened sensitivity to being bitten therefore is as a consequence of a life event and it is this that needs to be challenged positively and addressed to lessen your high alert and anxiety associated to certain spiders.

      @@nikandevaspeakman thank you so much for your reply to me. When I was eight I witnessed my mother screaming and jumping onto a chair when huge spiders ran across the room, so I naturally followed suit. I am sure that this is where it started. I am trying hard to rationalise this behaviour but it’s not easy! I will keep working on it. Much love to you both❤️

      Definitely don’t hold all spiders. I own a large spider and hold him with my bare hands, but I still fear brown recluses and kill them if they’re in my home.

    I've commented before on your channel I would give anything.....anything for you to take my vomiting phobia away. Im sobbing my heart out watching this because the thought of being free of it is so impossible a dream.I've tried for over 30 years, books, coping stratagies I have to hide it from my daughter although she now has crippling health anxiety herself( ptsd of witnessing me having a stroke) so she's petrified of wither of us getting ill now. I don't have a schema for my phobia no first memory and it's not inherited. And it's unfortunate that my health now means I vomit often, and also that my daughters main symptom of her anxiety is nausea. It's a cruel cycle. Thank goodness she hasn't inherited my vomiting phobia so at least my hiding it worked until she was old enough to understand I have a phobia and that it's irrational. But regardless Just wanted to say thankyou guys for how much you help people and change lives. One day I'll win the lottery and I'll get you to help my daughter first and then me and then ill finally know what having a normal life is like ❤

      No one is born with a phobia so ALL phobias can be overcome. Emetophobia also can be overcome. A phobia is defined as ‘an irrational fear’ no matter what you’re phobic too. There is always an experience that starts it. You think you can’t remember, but you can, it’s just that you don’t realise it was that event that started it. Most common causes of emetophobia are from being quite young at school (usually between the ages of 4 and 14) and seeing someone sick and everyone laughing at that person who was sick, or being disgusted with that person. Another common cause is being sick and being told off for making a mess. Another is you being sick and an adult not reacting well. Being a child, being sick and being alone or not understanding what is happening or finally seeing a parent being sick and thinking (as a child) that they were dying and you felt helpless. Less common causes are watching something on TV or visiting someone in hospital. We have 2 films here on our TH-cam channel with tips. Many people have overcome their emetophobia at our workshops and we write about it (and heath anxiety) in our book Conquering Anxiety.

    I would literally rather come across a mountain lion in the forest than have a wolf spider or other spider crawl on me. It’s so irrational but my fear is INSANE for these little guys, I can barely even look at pictures. I have absolutely no fear of snakes whatsoever, including rattlesnakes. But even small spiders will make me freeze in fear

    Tarantulas don’t scare me, it’s the big autumn house spiders. I can even handle smaller ones, like one that I got today. I gave to sleep with a bed net tent over my bed in autumn, all windows are netted, tape is all over the walls that have trapped many. I’ve got loads of sprays. Autumn is beautiful but not the spiders.

      Sorry to hear you struggle with arachnophobia. Interestingly everyone has slightly different criteria, for some it's all spiders (even cartoon pictures) for others it's only house spiders etc. The good news is that all phobias can be overcome & we have lots of tips to help here & on our TikTok channel. Good luck :)

    Im a little better with getting them out of my flat (not if they are in corner of a wall though lol) but I cannot work out when I became scared of them, it feels like i have always had it (although I can see that I got worse as I got older - maybe when I started to live by myself). Although strangely I think I made my brother fearful of them due to how I react!

      Most spider phobias are copied behaviour, so for example copying a parents, friend, relative etc. Sometimes a phobia can be acquired through a film or being teased or chased with a spider. However, we have a really helpful arachnophobia blog on our website www.speakman.tv do take a look as something there may just make that difference you need

    Like I couldn’t even be near one .
    Now, I’ve been fine with spiders for over a decade .
    Being around someone who’s nude is a different story entirely.

    Fear of spiders is a sign of a much deeper mental health issue that has absolutely nothing to do with spiders. Most people who are scared of spiders generally suffer from generalised anxiety disorder(GAD). If anything a fear of spiders is an accurate indicator for the need to see a therapist.
