Can I say one thing. I don't care if Italy (my country) has not won this Eurovision. I read all these awesome comments of other people (who aren't italian) and I think that winning the contest is not as important as the people's opinions of our music. And if they're good, that's a huge win. Italy loves all of you. Thank you for the sweet words. They means so much to us.

I know this is one year old, and I do like the song, but I think it lost because anyone tuning in without knowing the song just heard him sing "sex appeal", "singing in the rain", and "something something karma". It's hard for to the wider audience to care about or sing along to lyrics if they don't speak the language. If the lyrics are a big part of the appeal, that has to be communicated either by language or staging, and he did neither. This leaves over 90% of eurovision viewers that do not speak italian kind of clueless. Not saying the performance or language should have been changed somehow because I like it as it is, but as it is the lyrics aren't really an argument for the song to win.

I 've had this song on repeat since it won the National Selection and it just lifts my mood absolutely every time! I am so sad they had to cut lyrics but it was still perfect. I am guessing people stopped voting for you guys because they googled the lyrics and got butthurt by the truth they spoke. You just keep being as awesome as you are!

I'm Spanish but I follow every year the Sanremo's Festival, and when I saw and listened to Francesco's Occidentali's Karma I felt he should win ESC. The lyrics talk about how our society is and how deep is our Internet dependence... honestly, this song is a Masterpiece! Ho votato per voi, Italia! What I like the most about this performance is how much fun he's genuinely having. He feels the warmth of the audience and is just singing as if he was with friends on a karaoke night. So good to see!

Migas Almeida I think Francesco did his best but the staging was a bit confusing and, most importantly, the camera angles completely sucked. Cameras needed to focus on Francesco but they showed the stage and the arena more than him. Still he deserved a higher position at least.

This guy won San Remo (the best music contest in the world) 2 years in a row and he absolutely shattered the record for most views on youtube with his song. So even if he didn't get the plastic trophy, he is still the true winner.
Let's make a point here. Italy participated on and off to the ESC till 1997 then they stopped until 2011 (and no wonder!) as they considered ESC really too low quality and nobody watched the show in the country anyway. The formula of ESC has always been a sing-along tune happy together etc... Many times (not always of course) Italy sent first class singers and musicians only to finally get scorned out of the competition the comments were: they are too sophisticated too classy etc... This time it was a perfect mix of sound, performance and song itself, which, despite the easy going sound, is quite 'intellectual', even too much for ESC anyway - it was largely acclaimed as the winning song long before the show by critcs and public and it got the Press Award - so what happened next???? I love Sobral's song and voted for him but until last year this kind of song would probably have never reached the grand final and the amount of votes he got is really astonishing. I do not understand, I must admit but congrat.s to the winner, eventually a different one! From Italy
lan tol i love this song and really wanted for it to win! I even voted for it, and I tend to never use money on votes in Eurovision. i got incredibly disappointed that they didn't win, and even more disappointed when SWEDEN got a place above Italy (wtf).
I still don´t understand what happened, I was torn between Italy and Portugal and I was sure Francesco would win the televote. However I would like to point a few things that probably would have impacted the final voting, first that rainbow line on his suit makes no sense at all, also as I read in other video "he looked like he was trying too hard" at points he looked like not having a good time but desperate as he knew that Italy wasn´t the bookings favorite anymore and the whole performance for some weird reason didn´t catch me as much as that from San Remo, yet I still can´t accept that Belgium with that awful live and boring singer and Sweden with yet another plastic trashy song placed better, just unfair.

I really loved this song and I'm still gutted this one didn't win (I'm Dutch btw). I think a very important reason Italy didn't win is because they didn't (have to) participate in the semi-finals. Italy was on 1st place with the bookmakers from February non-stop up until one day before the final, when the Portuguese song impressed and caught momentum. From that point on, it's very hard to impress everyone when you only get once to perform your song. I think many people will share my idea that with many ESC songs, at first you think they're garbage but they eventually grow on you because you've heard them a couple of times. Even though it seemed like everyone in the audience knew then song, it was only the first time the entire European televoting public got to hear and see it, and I really think that's what costed Italy the victory. Sometimes being automatically qualified for the final can be a burden.

Che delusione queste Nazioni! Superficiali, e stupide! Per non parlare della superficiale, o venduta, o mafiosa, o ignorante giuria! Anche quando mandammo il trio " il volo" , che è acclamato al di là dell' Oceano, e loro....., non l' hanno proprio considerato , alche' io aggiungo:" non li meritavate"! Anzi, e concludo, mi spiace per l' Eurofestival, che indubbiamente ha una bella atmosfera, ma sono contraria alla partecipazione dell' Italia"! Penso che non ci meritano! Migas Almeida I think Francesco did his best but the staging was a bit confusing and, most importantly, the camera angles completely sucked. Cameras needed to focus on Francesco but they showed the stage and the arena more than him. Still he deserved a higher position at least.

Let's make a point here. Italy participated on and off to the ESC till 1997 then they stopped until 2011 (and no wonder!) as they considered ESC really too low quality and nobody watched the show in the country anyway. The formula of ESC has always been a sing-along tune happy together etc... Many times (not always of course) Italy sent first class singers and musicians only to finally get scorned out of the competition the comments were: they are too sophisticated too classy etc... This time it was a perfect mix of sound, performance and song itself, which, despite the easy going sound, is quite 'intellectual', even too much for ESC anyway - it was largely acclaimed as the winning song long before the show by critcs and public and it got the Press Award - so what happened next???? I love Sobral's song and voted for him but until last year this kind of song would probably have never reached the grand final and the amount of votes he got is really astonishing. I do not understand, I must admit but congrat.s to the winner, eventually a different one! From Italy

I still don´t understand what happened, I was torn between Italy and Portugal and I was sure Francesco would win the televote. However I would like to point a few things that probably would have impacted the final voting, first that rainbow line on his suit makes no sense at all, also as I read in other video "he looked like he was trying too hard" at points he looked like not having a good time but desperate as he knew that Italy wasn´t the bookings favorite anymore and the whole performance for some weird reason didn´t catch me as much as that from San Remo, yet I still can´t accept that Belgium with that awful live and boring singer and Sweden with yet another plastic trashy song placed better, just unfair.

I really loved this song and I'm still gutted this one didn't win (I'm Dutch btw). I think a very important reason Italy didn't win is because they didn't (have to) participate in the semi-finals. Italy was on 1st place with the bookmakers from February non-stop up until one day before the final, when the Portuguese song impressed and caught momentum. From that point on, it's very hard to impress everyone when you only get once to perform your song. I think many people will share my idea that with many ESC songs, at first you think they're garbage but they eventually grow on you because you've heard them a couple of times. Even though it seemed like everyone in the audience knew then song, it was only the first time the entire European televoting public got to hear and see it, and I really think that's what costed Italy the victory.
Sometimes being automatically qualified for the final can be a burden.
