It's like the dueling banjos of Darude Sandstorm era music with a dash of cowboy bebop drums. Got to credit Joel for always having something like this up his sleeve.
This song plus silly games like Transformice made fun things even more enjoyable. Like, it's a fun song but it's a *fast*-paced song so you're motivated to go hard into whatever you're doing!
@@GeriatricFan1963 Actually, I think it's more of a design flaw. Which explains why they chase you down in every bonus game, including ones that otherwise don't make sense for it to be the case, like the taxi bonus game on Sandy Bay. It also doesn't make sense how your character has a strange two seated vehicle for unexplained reasons, and doesn't even look like a taxi. A lot of these old Lego games have these kind of design flaws and plotholes, not helped by having to finish them on a tight deadline.
I suppose it's because Martians in "Life on Mars" were not inherently evil. Back then, Lego were still trying to incorporate a message of peace and mutual respect into their themes. Apparently, that began to change a few years later, with Mars Mission and Space Police 3 being some of the most violent and xenophobic themes ever.
Canonically the aliens in Mars Mission weren't native Martians that were only there to harvest the crystals, same as the humans. That didn't mean everyone had to fight, but I guess both sides got pretty greedy.
Not to mention Alien Conquest was much darker than U.F.O, because it had aliens attacking humans, and you could have alien slime placed on top of peoples heads. U.F.O was nothing more than just a generic alien theme for Lego Space. Apparently it seemed that Power Miners had to go through changes in it's second year (like replacing the orange with blue and making the rock monsters more serious), probably because people thought it looked too goofy. And I couldn't really blame them.
The second year of Power Miners kind of sucked, though. The colors weren't as appealing and none of the machines had functions that worked when pushed. Only the Claw Catcher was interesting, but everything else really lacked the functionality that made the first year so much fun.
@@2goodsharks I see what you mean. Still, it was nice to have a theme inspired by Rock Raiders a decade later. I just wish we had another new equivalent in present day.
@@Cyberbrickmaster1986 Nowadays Lego is more interested in creating licensed themes than their own original content, aside from very rare exceptions or the neverending Ninjago sets that are all starting to kind of look the same. It used to be that they only put major focus on a few licensed themes like Star Wars and put out way more original products like Bionicle, Exo-Force, Power Miners, or any of their Agent-themed product lines that a lot of people fondly remember. But it's all about getting as many licenses as possible now, it seems, and I don't know if we'll even get another mining-themed product line like Rock Raiders and Power Miners.
@@2goodsharks It's really a shame. I guess Lego these days believes it won't sell until it's tied with a license. And when they do make original products, they tend to go all out over the top with it just to make it another Ninjago wannabe for the sake of attention. Even Lego City has fallen victim to this, even if I don't believe it's currently as bad as Lego Town back in the late 90s.
@@Cyberbrickmaster1986 It is really unfortunate. I had a lot of Lego Stars Wars sets, and they were great, but the majority of my collection were from original Lego themes, especially Bionicle. And that was without owning any City or Ninjago sets. Nowadays that would be impossible since Lego mostly stopped making original themes. I almost wonder if they gave up after a string of mediocre original themes like Pharaoh's Quest, Alien Conquest, or Dino, which were pretty much worse versions of previous original themes. That might have been during the rise of Ninjago too, so I guess they would have just pushed all the poorly-selling ones out and latch onto the single one that worked.

+DantonGamer They're the same, there's only one audio file for this music.
I watched the Sarah McLachlan ASPCA commercial on mute with this song playing over the top of it and healed inside just a little.
Why is it that on Mars, the people chasing you down in the bonus game are just rival opponents and not Martians, despite what Sparky told me?
