To be fair tweek plays terribly against acola. Acola was definitely playing like this open purpose to tilt tweek. Players like Sparg0 and Miya have steve figured out.
@fizzy6987 He doesn't. He tried his two best characters, but nothing worked. He tried running in and attacking, and never approaching and camping. But. Nothing. Worked. Tweek went to both extremes in every way and absolutely got his ass whooped by this character. A steve ban is the only thing that can save ultimate.
@@alexneuman600 Kinda agreeing with me? I said Tweek plays terribly against Acola. Acola also switched his playstyle to tilt tweek. As for a ban nah it won’t make things better. People have already figured out Steve. Acola will lose #1 status next season unless he can get a solid secondary.
Sephiroth can do perfectly fine against Steve, actually Steve players think he's one of his hardest matchups. Tweek needs to grind the Steve matchup, not switch characters.
The sad part is that Steve is in the game. Regardless of broken or not broken I don't think most people enjoy watching him and he's single handedly reducing the viewership of the e sport I don't know all the details here but another thing I'll say is that I don't believe the money + sponsor situation is the same in Japan whereas other players have incentives to play "interesting" characters to get sponsors
Steve defenders nothing new, even Japan despise the character, the only people defending Steve are Steve players or casuals who know nothing about the game
@baaam26 Former PR player here (not a Steve main) I just think hating on characters to the extent people do for Steve; and even Steve players, is a complete waste of time
At what point is a player considered carried by a character? It’s obvious Acola is a very talented player, but this sort of domination isn’t something that he would be capable of without Steve. Maybe I’m just biased against his character, but I’m skeptical of anyone who saw such a meteoric rise after picking up Steve.
@@andrewyang222 that’s the thing though, if Light played a different character I think he could still be a top player. Fox is broken, but he’s only regular broken. I am surprised that Seph wasn’t able to do better in that particular match up, but Tweek probably hadn’t used him all weekend for the most part, and that looked annoying to play against anyway
Just goes to show how unbalanced Steve is, that even a "bad mu" looks legitimately free at the top level And even when Tweek went time out Diddy, Acola could make 2 mistakes for every mistake Tweek made and would still win

Some of these comments and especially the ones by clear throwaway accounts attacking Tweek because he decided to play timeout against the bets character in the game whose only weakness is his speed are disgusting We had a while back people attacking a kid for the character he played, and now we have people attacking a person for playing optimally vs the best character in the game Going forward I legit wish more and more people with fast characters would just go for a timeout from minute 1 vs Steve so we can finally then really have the discussion about his effects for the health of the game and the scene I don't like the idea of banning characters, but just like Sonic optimally plays for timeout (but is also blessed with great tools to box) the optimal counterplay to Steve is a timeout, since on EVERY other field he has the rest of the roster beat
@@shaggywali9575 It definitely was an act of desperation and frustration at that point, yes. But at that moment, when he felt helpless, he went for an option that would be good for him, but the implementation in the moment was poor. Still the idea was there. Fundies and actual skill isn't requiered in this game anymore. You just need your simple af gameplan and the character to execute it with. Matches have turned into campfests or rage inducing beatdowns and it doesn't even feel satisfying when the Steve loses but just as lame when you're forced to camp him out or hit him with disjoints. Watching Tweek is one of the only things that still brings joy to me in this game post FP2 and watching one of the most technically gifted and fundamentally skilled players back when this game wasn't filled with overtuned unpatched characters that change the rules of the game at their will is just more and more souring my desire to watch non Melee tournaments. The character variety in this game was it's biggest strength yet FP2 made it so that top level play is now a metacheck that leaves players who don't main characters who don't have a shot against DLC or one of the 3 characters that seem to actually have a good MU as a secondary out of a shot for No. 1. I watch Melee if i want a good collection of the same 8-12 characters at every event because the top and high tiers all have extremely fun chemistry against each other and not Ult's boring DLC. Ever since acola just came out of nowhere and took Leo's number 1 spot that used to actually mean something to me as a spectator it just feels like we've been stuck in a wrong timeline where actual storylines that i've watched for don't happen or just get plain delayed. I was so hyped for Leo, Tweek and Sparg0 to have an actual number 1 race at the start of the year with Sparg0's number 1 being only a matter of time but along this way i just stopped caring. Besides Leo just getting left in the dust nothing else feels natural anymore to watch. The only guy who i still think is a natural number 1 contender besides sparg0 to me is a god damn campy Sonic main to really hammer in how screwed being a spectator is rn. I enjoyed the game's unpatched day 1 Wolf, Peach, Pichu meta and the game during FP1. I miss the time when Palu and R.O.B. were the most controversial characters and when great sets wouldn't only happen in Top 64 but Top 8. The sets between especially these 2 players just show me why i stopped caring a long time if i even watched the tourneys anymore. Tournament had a really cool Summit-like vibe but when half of the contenders are either using Sonic or FP2 why even bother man. I sincerly hope that any lingering person who still defends a character that disables the word risk finally wakes up that it's killing viewership more and more no matter if he's ban worthy or not.
As broken as I think steve is hes not winning everything currently. In most fighters when a character is beyond broken they make up for 75 percent of characters used in top 8s. Personally more people have to play steve and perform as well as acola for the ban to be more talked about. With that being said I do agree that this game is going into the dark ages.
@@Gambit-YT Not true. Tekken has 54 characters including dlc and a huge player base and on that game when a character is broken you will see about 3-4 in top 8 consistently even if the character was boring and un fun to play against. Honestly, great job for Tweek trying to find a way out of that fight vs Steve. Personally, stage is the key to having a better match up with Steve, and PS2 was not it. That wall up from Acola at the right points of the two platform is going to be hard for any body fighting Steve and that's not including Steve's good frame data compared to others. Unfortunately, Tweek couldn't find a way to break that, because Steve is that good of a character. Not to say Acola isn't a good player, the amount of parries he was doing were spot on, but the brutal truth is the DLCs imbalance destroyed most of the cast. Why try harder with another base rooster character when the DLC can do less execution (ish) and deal the same damage or more. It's a common PvP knowledge. Good Job to both players and more to Tweek because he was dealing with a Steve. Acola's strategy is not underhanded, he played correctly, call it what you will, but he played solid with or without Steve.

Meh. Sephiroth is great for this matchup. Tweek got severely outplayed. He was giving too much respect to Steve’s burst options. Also, he let the production teams’ antics get under his skin during the set which made it worse. I believe in Tweek though. He can do much better next time.
Now that the tournament has finished I can confidently say that this was one of the worst if not the worst top 8 ever in FGC history, Ultimate is so boring rn, literally 8 guys trying to camp each other out, Steve really disables the former fast-paced top level gameplay Ultimate was famous for, everybody is forced to play at the most sluggish pace ever. We had a while back people attacking a kid for the character he played, and now we have people attacking a person for playing optimally vs the best character in the game
Going forward I legit wish more and more people with fast characters would just go for a timeout from minute 1 vs Steve so we can finally then really have the discussion about his effects for the health of the game and the scene
I don't like the idea of banning characters, but just like Sonic optimally plays for timeout (but is also blessed with great tools to box) the optimal counterplay to Steve is a timeout, since on EVERY other field he has the rest of the roster beat

@@doodoo2065And at least Kazuya has counterplay and visible weaknesses.
Steve is very healthy for the game.
海外でセフィロスってどんな評価ですか?
Wow Steve is literally the lamest character in Smash history
Lol cry
Nah that’s ode. Point of the game is to box it out and interact with the other players. How the hell are you gonna build a wall to keep the players away from you. L gameplay no lie. Props to tweek for trying though and keeping his cool
Please stop that, Steve ruins the game
I didn't particularly dislike Acola/Steve until I saw the Diddy interaction at the start of the match. "I will sit here, and not fight you until I have maxed my resources...even then, you must approach me." I guess it is competitive so anything goes if/when there's money on the line of course but damn. As a casual-try-hard-but-have-fun, I have zero respect for people who fight like that. I'm there to _play_ Smash, not win at the cost of both of us being bored out of our minds.
You do realize tweek was doing the same thing? He literally sat there for like a full minute doing nothing. Tf else is Acola gonna do?
@@mercurysnake274 He could, I don't know, play smash instead of minecraft? Steve is stupid safe when he's mining behind walls and walls, approaching him often means you're just gonna get punished
You're there to play smash but these guys are there to win. Going to game 2 is great but he had the chance to calmly observe how his opponent tries to bridge the gap with the bonus of getting into his head. Sometimes mind games can go a long way, similar to how Spargo was frustrating Sonix with all the up B's he kept doing.
@@mercurysnake274 I don't think you recognize the difference between evasion and "I'll never approach." Before I thought Acola was a bit evasive, but I've never seen a test like what Tweek did. Confirming that Acola really won't approach 10/10 times. He's not even going to put out safe options and mildly approach. If you don't know the difference, then you think they're doing the same thing, but it's not at all.
@@EbonySeraphim Again, he doesn’t HAVE an incentive to approach.
If Tweek is gonna sit there and do nothing, there’s no reason for Acola NOT to farm resources
What did Tweek say at 17:28?
i think he said "what are you doing?" since they switched scenes
It looked like tweek said "why would you do that?", Likely because he recognized the big screen was showing player faces instead of the match, which could be embarrassing
17:28 tweek gets pissed that they changed the camera angle on the stream
I’m convinced the only people defending acola are Steve players
Steve peepee riders
What is there to defend? If you're just going to sit there and watch me mine why would I take the free dub? This was 100% on tweek wanting to slow down the pace
@@TheBomberman122 what else can you do against Steve??? Especially as diddy Steve ruins this game
@@CancelFGCwhat else can you do? Do you even play the game? Without his mats, which tweek let him have as much as he wanted, he has a hard time defending himself. Go watch any spargo game vs Acola and tell me if spargo ever just sat there watching him mine.
@@TheBomberman122 oh yeah your definitely a Steve main
Pokemon Stadium seems like a very good stage for Steve; why do players not ban it when playing against him?
Because the other stage choices are also horrible.
Steve needs to be banned. He is not healthy for the game or for spectators.
Incidentally, Japanese DD player Riouo has been playing Maesuma to a set count of 2-2 against A-cola😂
Please admit that Tweek is more stupid than Riuoh😂
@user-gy1qs8qj9m You are spamming that everywhere. You okay?
It’s not even DLCS all the DLCS are MORE beatable than Steve, and it’s honestly annoying because once Steve came out he easily made it to top 8s like months later
@@ららら-p7p please admit that you a hater
Tweek should bring back Cloud or PT as a secondary to deal with GnW/Steve, and abandon Sephiroth. Seph only helps him vs BigD's Icies, but doesn't really cover any of Diddy's bad MU's.
100% agree, seph is also mid af
He said recently he's probably gonna switch to Cloud.
Meh. Sephiroth is great for this matchup. Tweek got severely outplayed. He was giving too much respect to Steve’s burst options. Also, he let the production teams’ antics get under his skin during the set which made it worse.
I believe in Tweek though. He can do much better next time.
i hope this helps the steve ban
Now that the tournament has finished I can confidently say that this was one of the worst if not the worst top 8 ever in FGC history, Ultimate is so boring rn, literally 8 guys trying to camp each other out, Steve really disables the former fast-paced top level gameplay Ultimate was famous for, everybody is forced to play at the most sluggish pace ever. I cannot blame Nintendo for leaving the competitive scene, the most boring FG atm (if you can even call it a FG)
Only three sets in top 8 had Steve. Out of ten.
@@legrandliseurtri7495 he is talking about sonic too.. and there were two sonic's out there
@@legrandliseurtri7495 The top 8 of the last 3 major tournaments have AT LEAST 2 Steves, 2 Sonics a GnW and Sparg0. Regradless, the characters could be all rushdown unga-bunga characters and it wouldn't matter, everybody plays campy now (including players like Leo, Tweek and Sparg0), whoever approaches first loses, its the most boring metagame in Smash history.
There's a reason why Peach/Daisy dittos and Fox dittos garner a lot more interest at top level in both the gameplay and the players behind it, rather than the swill of the majority of results from majors and minors have devolved into.
Nah u literally have to blame nintendo for putting this character out and never nerfing or even touching up on his moves.
Steve is shameful.
How does tweeks kum taste like
whoever kept zooming up on tweek's face like that - you are just a jerk. Not only is that rude to any player, but literally watch the throne was made possible partially because of tweek talks.
Its sad that you can be so much better than someone else and it not matter.
Not sure why Tweek was playing so passive and defensive with Seph, even with the wing. I understand you don’t want to fall in Steve’s trap, but you can’t just let him mine non-stop without getting contested either. Gotta apply pressure.
Barely used counter either, which you’d want to use when you know you’re overextending that aforementioned pressure to catch that minecart or anvil the Steve will likely do to get out of disadvantage or cut off your chase.
Agreed.
2:00 Acola is kidding with us
Steve is killing some parts of the tournament, really, boring AF. Killing part of what Smash is. Seeing Steve just building blocks on his back to not get killed while covering the only place where he can be attacked is painful to watch. Steve is cancer made gameplay
Please just ban Steve, this is getting ridiculous.
03:44. Granted it wasn’t the sweet spot, but can we take a moment and acknowledge how ridiculous it is that one wing seph down smash didn’t break the block 😂😂😂
This really shows how degenrate is the character and how degenerate are players justifing his presence in competitive play
