Personally I prefer to power the entire panel. Light switches working plus all the small conveniences. My entire house runs off a 3500w. Two window units, fridge, freezer tv's and everything else 12 amps all day. The drawback is not knowing when the power is restored without a light outside.

The amperage on the transfer switch is 15 per fuse how did you power 20 amperage fuses on the main breaker?
