    Stationed there from 85-89, hubby was jet shop on the C5"s and C141"s and C130"s, spent 6 weeks in that hotel until moving to Dietzenbach, 2 of my children were born at Wiesbaden AB. Loved our time there, will never forget it.

    OH Hell no! That entrance was Awesome! I last went there in 1988. Thank you for sharing! I was stationed at Finthen Army Airfield on my 2nd and last tour in Germany. I've heard horror stories so I'm so thankful that I have wonderful memories still fresh in my mind. I see a stop sign in there...what happened to the einfart and ausfart signs.... :-)

    Wow! Thank you for this. It brings back memories. I was stationed there 79-81. I miss the times and friends I made there. I wish I had video recorded all the buildings on base. All I have are pictures. I was in the best dorm on Base. I was in CE and we had the dining hall and the female dorm upstairs!

    Rhein Main Air Base is where I joined the Air Force in 1988.

    Thank you so much for sharing this. So my kids father was in the Air Force and we were stationed at Rhein Main Airbase from 1985-1989. I had such good memories of the Airbase back then. We saw the original Top Gun movie on the Base and they made a huge deal of the showing. There were long lines and some of the pilots came to the movie in their uniforms. So cool 😎. There was this guy that sold pretzels out of a truck on the Base and he made these sandwiches that were so good. We stayed at the hotel until later moving to Dietzenbach. I worked at the BX at the time and my boss was French she was so cool. I later got a better paying job and worked in Frankfurt. We went to Munich for the real Oktoberfest. 🍻 The Germans kept buying us rounds and rounds of beer. "Beer 🍺 for the Americans." And we did the Rhine River Cruises. The nightclubs on the Base were great but you could really party at the German nightclubs off the Base. We had our daughter at the Wiesbaden AB. These were great times that I will never forget. 😍

    My daughter and I arrived in Germany in August 2000. When we left the Frankfurt Airport, we accidentally got onto Rhein-Main AB; I guess because we were fellow Americans, no one challenged us. Thank God that a gorgeous and quite sweet Airmen and his friend provided us with directions into Frankfurt so we could get on our way to Heidelberg!

    I worked on this airbase at AFEX headquarters from 1963 to 1965. I'm from England and it was my first experience working with Americans and Germans. I have fond memories of those days. I have lived in California now for over fifty years with a brief two year sojourn in Hawaii mid '70s.

      Gaggs!! Glad to hear you did make it from Hawaii, back to the CONUS. There and PR should be turned loose for good.

    Thanks for the video, it was very refreshing which brought back old memories. I was hoping to see the Gym and Football field where many Championships were won during the early 70"s. That was during the time when Rhein Main and Weisbaden ruled Europe football with RM being the dominate base/team :). I've got my four Championship trophies in my garage. How many folk out there

    • @FrankfurtAlumniVideo
      @FrankfurtAlumniVideo  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In reply to the end of your comment...There's not that many folk left here, when compared to the old days. The Milcom families which are still here though are down in Wiesbaden, K-town, Ramstein, and Stuttgart areas. BTW, congrats on your 4-Championship trophies! It would be real nice to see some pictures of those gems. Take care.

    Thanks for posting, i remember flying out of Rhein-Main multiple times as my dad did multiple tours in Germany. I enjoyed staying at the hotel prior to us flying to Charleston with my dad in his Class A's. It is funny as a kid we would look across the tarmac wanting to fly out of FRA instead. As a Soldier now, i fly out of their in 2004.

    I flew into there as a kid on Oct.26th , 1964. The hotel was even there then and I remember staying there. My dad picked us up in a brand new 65 VW square back that he had borrowed from a friend and on the 27th, we headed for Bamberg. That's when the nightmare began.

    I'm a brat, I was born at Landstuhl hospital and went from K-5th grade at Halverson Elementary...my father was transferred to Ramstein when the planes moved to Ramstein in the 90's and I went to Ramstein Elementary and Middle School from 6-8th grade. Wound up returning to Germany in 2002 and left in 2006 only to return to Ramstein November 2013! Needless to say I'm a spouse now...yes, I'm a glutton for punishment! I cried when they shut down Rhein Main in 2005 (I was at Patch Barracks, Stuttgart with my parents at the time)

    I was an Army Sp4 stationed on Rhein Main from Dec 16, 1960 to May 29, 1963. My MOS was 719-10 Air Movement Specialist. In those days the Army was in charge of MATS.
    President Kennedy extended our tours, 6 Months, because of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

    Thanks as always for the trip down Memory Lane, Otis. I am wondering now why is it that the various spots you've filmed have the grounds overrun with weeds and such? Back in the day, they expected us to maintain the grounds to keep up an image of order, regardless of where you lived and who you had to report to.

    • @FrankfurtAlumniVideo
      @FrankfurtAlumniVideo  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mrtlbush, in reference to your question about the various spots I've filmed and the grounds being overrun with weeds...all I can surmise is that these areas are being laid to rest, so to speak, as the city and contracted building firms lay-out and complete their blueprint plans - for rebuilding on these sites. So, you know, no money is appropriated to be spent on personnel to keep these areas up-to-par.

    Was stationed there from 87-91 assigned to the ALCE. Deployed to Desert Storm from RM. Was a great place, lived in base housing on the other side of the runway. I see that area has all been torn down also, big whare house facilities there now. Armed Forces back then had plates on our cars that identified us as US military. I bet that is not the case now with all the terrorism?

    Nicely done, brother. Lived there for 4 years, my brother was there about 6 years. Great memories, kind of rough to see so much erased, but that's the way it goes. At least this country hasn't imploded into stupidity and lawlessness after the Americans left.

      +Number 20 I was assigned to Rhein Main Air Base from Oct 1983 to Oct 1986. I was in the Main Tower when the car bomb went off. Many things happened during those years. Speaking of old timers, Did you know Tommy Joe Anderson, he played football for Rhein Main for 3 to 4 years. He was quiet the guy, one of my best friends ever!! He passed away in 2009. His picture was hung up in the Gym for many years. His wife is still on of our good and dear friends.

      +Leah Clements: Hi Leah. Very nice to hear from you. Of course I knew big Tommy Anderson. We played on the Rockets football team for at least 4 years. He was an outstanding player and person. I'm so sorry to hear that he passed. When did that occur and where was he? I wish you knew some of the guys besides him. How did you come to know Andy since you were there in the 80's. Seems he would have retired by then. I was there from 70-74. Did you ever see the very large pic of the team on the wall of the gym? We were marching on the field? I wish I would have asked for it to be shipped back to the States when I was there in 90's on vacation before the base closed. I believe I lead the team out. Anyway, please let's keep in touch. Maybe I can send you some pic and clippings with Tommy. email: cjjohnson20@verizon.net Take Care and hope to hear from you soon. #20.
