    Nsukka indigenous people also make good okpa, when I was a student at the university I loved okpa so much one day I bought and ate 5 at one go, after that I suffered the side effects, which included thirstiness, and drowsiness. To mention a few.

      You'll need to take it to a special heavy duty grinder. That grinder is very big, not found in every market. Ask those selling okpa close to you where you can grind okpa seeds and they will tell you. Grind it and sieve it with akamu chiffon cloth then store.

    Hi aunty , thanks for sharing your video. In place of banana leaf, ca
    I use agidi leaf?

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      No Stella Roland because you can't tie up agidi leaves. You need a wrapper that is strong enough which you can tie up. This is because the mix is quite watery and will not hold in the leaf like Moi Moi. Also, you need to cook okpa is a pot a generous quantity of water so the wraps will just scatter. Remember that the banana leaves used here are the dry and hard banana leaves not the fresh and soft ones.

    I was watching this video trying to learn how to make okpa and then my husband asked me what I was watching it for that he know how to make okpa. I laughed and was expecting the worst. Well after he finished explaining and I continued my video, Lo and behold what he narrated was what you said. When I asked him he said his mom once sold okpa and she would always call him to help her since he was the only one living with her then 😂😂. I am shocked he hasn't forgotten cause he was around 6/7 years old then and he was just her torch holder 😂😂

    Hi Flo, I have a quick question. I boil the okpa mix in 2 transparent waterproof bags but I end up boiling for almost 2 hours and it still doesn't get hard. What am I possibly doing wrong?

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bb Okai assuming that you cooked the okpa on medium to high heat, I imagine 2 scenarios:
      (1) That after 2 hours the okpa was soft all over with streaks of palm oil in it. If yes, it means the amount of water you added is too much.
      (2) That after 2 hours, when you opened one wrap, about half of the okpa in that wrap was very soft while the other half was very hard. If yes, it means you did not put the okpa into the pot of boiling water immediately after wrapping it. Usually one should wrap one okpa, throw it in the pot of boiling water, wrap another thrown it in etc.
      If the above 2 do not address the results you got after 2 hours, please tell me what the okpa looked like so that I'll try and explain what happened there, OK?

    • @steffana
      @steffana 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      All Nigerian Recipes
      Hi again! Thanks for the reply! I have a mix of both! but mainly the top half of the okpa is soft and the lower half, hard. Yes, I do place the okpa in the boiling water immediately after wrapping. One thing though, I use very high heat, so maybe I should try medium? The water is usually really boiling (with bubbles) as opposed to very hot on the brink of boiling. Can this affect the outcome.
      Otherwise, I follow your instructions down to the tee. I have made it four times now, and had to throw it away twice. The other two were manageable. By the way, thanks for your videos! I love them, my igbo bf loves it when I cook ukwa which I had never even heard of before seeing it on your page.

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awww I'm glad you love the videos, keep up the good work of taking care of that "boy"! *wink!
      4 times? I feel for you dear Bb Okai!
      That the texture is mixed in one wrap is kind of a good thing, it means you got the consistency right. :)
      Now here are what I would try:
      (1) Use medium heat but make sure the water is boiling before you add the okpa wraps.
      (2) Once you drop in one okpa wrap, stir with a spatula for a bit (about 2 minutes) or till you think the contents of the wrap is warm/hot enough for the particles NOT to settle to one side of the wrap. If you are using high heat, this should happen within a shorter time. Repeat for all the wraps.
      (3) When done with all the wraps, stir again before covering the pot.
      The idea here is to keep the contents of the wraps moving thereby NOT giving them a chance to settle to one side. Hopefully these should solve it. Good luck!

      No because the Okpa mix is too watery, it will pour out and make a mess. Also, you need to cook okpa in plenty of water such that the wraps are swimming in there.

      +chioma uzoma Nne to grind okpa seeds you need a very heavy duty machine because they are as hard as stone. :D You need to buy the okpa powder from Nigeria.

    Nne biko whats the English name of okpa flour?
    And where can i get the banana wrap?
    Am in Australia. ...

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Evans anikwe it's Bambara nut flour. I heard that banana leaves are sold in Asian and Spanish shops but that's in the USA. You may need to ask around in Australia to see who stocks them. Show ethnic food shops photos of the leaves to help them direct you.

      I bought it from Nigeria. Okpa flour is Bambaranut flour. You can search for it on Amazon. It is best to have someone send you some from Nigeria.

    So I mistakenly soak my ọkpa seeds, when I wanted to soak soya beans. Can I just blend it like that? Will it still work well?

      Yes you can bake it in muffin cups. Mix it like I did in this video and bake it following the directions in the Baked Moi Moi video. but you need to bake the okpa for a bit longer >> th-cam.com/video/eQAgN9UCuig/w-d-xo.html
