@@SaiIor_Moon Flip side is how many times have I cut a gaming sessions short because I was bottom tier with no end in sight? Way too many. I don't mind a healthy W/L, but too many matches where I am unable to contribute effectively might as well not even play.
I don't know what WG was thinking when they did the armor models for Colorado, California and the WVs. They're all US Standard type Dreadnoughts, so like NM and Arizona they're supposed to have a turtle-back armor layout. That's one of the reasons they're referred to as Standards, because from the Nevadas all the way to the canceled South Dakota's, other than some incremental improvements the All or Nothing armor scheme was pretty much identical.
i wanted to get her to moment i saw her in the devblog and i just got her and i can say, she actually plays like how i expected, Slow speed with low range like Colorado, but beefed up secondaries close to Gneisenau if fully spec'ed for secondaries with range of 9.5km max range. she is like Massachust but watered down to T7, Best of all, she's a ship built in reality! i got a good amount of kills with her thanks to her secondaries
I was skeptical of this ship at first but after seeing that at tier 7 16in shells overmatch battleships and how fast loading your secondaries are it can be phenomenal. My worry us the uptier with tier 9 ships
played 4 games with her yesterday and they were all above 100k to 120ish k damage with 3-4 kills :D Top tier of course, I'd say this T7 Massa is absolutely worth it, very fun to play. I thought she'd be arse after following her developpment and stats too. But after seeing the dispersion on the main guns isn't as bad as expected and how these secondarys can melt stuff in reviews, I wanted to give her a go myself and I'm not disappointed :)
I do like the old USN Battleships, especially when Wargambling don't take it into their empty heads to ruin them with stupid reloads etc, I'd love to see some nice cammo's like they used to do, not these Carnival Float Crapy things they throw out nowadays. My beloved, They took too long edit: aight, seems they tuned down her much improved historical values for armor, especially the greatly enhanced horizontal protection for deck and turret roof tops. It's nice to see that they gave her the experimental quad 20mm thunderbolt mount, pretty neat touch
Not sure if anyone has realized this but California has the same exact itadel structure an torpedo bulges, however below the 343mm bow casemate armor, she has and additional band of 343mm citadel armor, and then the 35 mm citadel (athwartship). Colorado and WV '41 both have a full 343mm in the bow (full depth of citadel, athwartship). WV '44 has 35mm bow armor the full depth of the bow citadel (athwartship). There's 0 reason for this either historically or balance-wise at T7.
This ship massacres Ops. Genuinely slaughters. It's obscene, and I love it. Kinda rough armor, but high HP and punchy guns/secondaries means your just a brick wall of murder. Are the heals enhanced? Feels like they cooldown super duper quickly and last a while. The aaa on this is insane. +60 plane kills on cherry blossom, it was disgusting. I love it. It's like a pre rework Texas. Woe betide any cv that fucks around and finds out.... also is nobody gonna mention the British level acceleration? Wild. Watch the part when he smacks into bayern at the beginning of his gameplay
The guns aren't colorado guns. Lower dispersion is one thing but the drag coefficient is also much higher. This results in the the penetration at range being similar to tier 5 new york and a longer shell travel time. The heal also isn't an improved american heal, it's a standard heal.
As an alternative you might consider taking the 2pt IFHE skill. I was skeptical at first but there is a lot of 26mm and under armor at the mid tiers and this gives you 27mm pen on the secondary guns. I tried it and was surprised how much secondary damage I was getting . Yes you loose on the fires but the base fire chance was only 5% to start with anyway. I'm going to keep playing it with IFHE for awhile and see over time how it works compared with not taking IFHE.
Wee Vee '44 is more of a Tier VII Oklahoma rather than a Tier VII Massachusetts, albeit with different issues than Oklahoma. That said, Wee Vee '44 definitely is a LOT better at her tier compared to Oklahoma, as her AP penetration, while bad for her caliber, is still quite usable. : )
"Alright sir we're going to refit West Virginia, what do you suggest?" "Cut an Atlanta in half and bolt it to either side of the hull, that should do it." "........... *sighs in messenger*...... Yes sir, I'll let the dock yard know...."
Wee Vee is *at BEST* very much balanced. We should not be seeing any nerfs, obviously. As someone on WoWs forums put it, she is "heads and shoulders" over California in terms of overall combat performance. However, this is simply more indicative that the clearly underperforming California needs a buff, rather than Wee Vee requiring a nerf (or a buff). If there was one buff I'd say Wee Vee '44 kinda would like, it's the loss of the floatiness of the shells. You already have lower range, lower sigma AND lower AP penetration. A fourth main battery bane is kinda overkill, tbh. That all said, I am having a LOT more fun playing her over California. That and aesthetically speaking, they're almost identical in overall look (love the 406mm gun turrets too) , and I just love her a lot 😮
Man, did hit me hard that yesterdays excellent video did not do well… sometimes algorithm is just a prison where you as a creator almost can’t move in any direction… And thank you for review!
Hey elm I just got the Brisbane. I finished the event and took Matilda Kelley. Then about a week ago I logged in and there it was. Happy but not sure why I got it.
Whoa inflation has even hit ship prices... must be the cost of the steel. 😂 Agree the art dept hit another grand slam and its a historical ship so salute to WG for that. Now when is my next monthly check coming in?
Interesting choice of commander skills. Fire Prevention has been my first four-point skill choice for battleships for quite awhile now. But you have a point, fire damage can be healed. Tier VII is about the point where secondaries can be useful for something more than taking care of the occasional short-range destroyer ambush. A (mostly) full offense build may be a bit more of a gamble for us ordinary home gamers. I have spent more gold than I like to think about switching Tier VII commanders between secondary and more defensive builds.
(This is all my wishful thinking) I still would like WG to do an american BB sedentary line split starting at T5 to T9. I know we already have a lot of sedentary focused ship's in game but I believe it would be awesome if we could get some real historical ship's for this line. T5 USS Nevada refit T6 USS Pennsylvania T7 USS Tennessee refit or USS Maryland T8 USS South Dakota or USS Washington T9 USS New Jersey P.S. when the USS Texas is restored to have a release of a new version of the ship in game with priority AA.
I just noticed that wargaming also removed the ability to buy only the exact amount of doubloons you need from their premium store. Now you have to be a victim of their bundle prices or not buy any at all.
Nice video ^^ I have bit question, between "West Virginia 41" And "West Virginia 44" Which one is more worth it? Both have same gun caliber, and same "trash" 21 speed. HP pool and aa, 44 is much better, but 41 is tier 6, and 44 is tier 7. Please help answer. Thanks ^^
The main problem with t7 is that they get the 26mm armor with exception of some dreadnoughts that have super armor in the center of the ship.... so when uptiered even angled you face a 457 Georgia and you get smashed for 20k even when you were sharped angled. Thats on bbs. On cruisers you are already used to get deleted so by the time you get to T7 you know more or less how to manouver.
May get it but it would just sit in port like the '41. I was reminded why after doing the event mission yesterday; trying to sail at 21 knots is painful, no matter the game mode.
Something tells me that we'll get West Virginia '44 in Legends sometime down the road. I wouldn't mind owning her in my fleet. Going back to what you said about the combination of different era technology blended in with the ship, I tend to agree with you. Tennessee, California and West Virginia look amazing with their post Pearl Harbor refits. I tend to say the same exact thing about the Iowa-class with their modernization in the 1980's. That blend of old with the new.
I would say that WV44 will probably be a tier 6 battleship opposed to a tier 5 or even a tier 7. She would compete with her sister at that tier just like California is with Tennesse. I can see a post-Pearl Harbor refit be at the same tier as her pre-Pearl Habor configuration counterpart.
Good review. Personally going to stick with the Tier VI version, although it’s AA is becoming a problem with the proliferation of carriers. It seems like it might be a net gain over Colorado, but not worth the price of admission.
Is this the first time we've seen 31mm of armor in-game? That's actually an important threshold, because 457s of course can't overmatch 32mm of armor, but it _can_ overmatch 31mm of armor. And of course, there are a handful of tier 9 battleships with 457s (Georgia and Sun-Yat Sin are two that come to mind immediately) that the WV '44 can face.

The price of items in this game is down right criminal.
Been waiting for this ship for what 3 years now? when it finally comes I am just unable to spare the cash.... figures lol
.. I will trade you weevee 41 and cali for it?
I'm so pissed about this ship being only available in bundles. 😡😡😡
👍
Thanks for the video. I did purchase the event sale. I'm happy with her.
teams are not equal we all know this, pointless getting excited over new ships, games are stacked. it's all about money folks, don't pay for shit. you are getting mugged.
Release the BSPRM 2.0 mod
I do not like how overpriced WV44 is. Seriously? $63 or $83 for a tier 7?
I know the Halford will be a coal ship and I assume west Virginia 44 will be too. But wargaming has a habit of releasing these as coal ships 1 year after their event. Brisbane is a coal ship but it is still not available.
you can get 700 out of the 1400 needed token out of a combat mission chain, so you can save a lot.
Also the doubloons you buy will give you tokens for the summer festival event.
can u have your patreons buy me a ship too? i want everything handed to me too
Is WeeVee 1941 worth 700 points ?
Hahahah gaijin is funny, i mean, wargaming or whatever. Like: HEY FELLAS, here's the ship yall been looking for, aaaaaaand guess what, its ONLY 80 BUCKS for those that cant afford the grinding time ahhaushs. Disgusting
